When it comes to libraries of unplayed games, I'm going to apply Nassim Nicholas Taleb's quote on libraries that "Read books are far less valuable than unread ones." In many ways, a collection of games is very much a library, full of possibilities, themes yet to be explored and excavated. If not, there's always eBay and BGG ;)

Hi guys! Liked the video. I'm behind in playing soooo many games by now. After i unbox, I dig out my Plano boxes and labels and get about organizing the "bits". Then I sit about and read the rules. What I should be ashamed of is that I've KSed WAY too many games in the past two years and haven't even begun to catch up... THEN... I go out and get all crazy about an old edition of "Title Bout" or 'sky Galleons of Mars', and make my life that much more complicated. Recently, I searched EBAY and found Shenandoah, Sam Grant and Bobby Lee (from Columbia Games) at a great price... see?... backed myself up yet again. The good news is that I have the rest of the year to lighten the mountain. Keep up the great work... you guys are clearly Way more productive than I am.

Great Battles Of Alexander also had a deluxe reprint a year or two ago. Not sure how available that version still is. We all know how quickly the popular oldies go out-of-print again. Even on the sixth or seventh reprinting. I think the reason GBoH Alexander is so popular is due to the wide variety of troop types available, even for one side. Some serious combined arms action to be had, especially compared to something like playing the Roman side in SPQR where so many of your units are the same.

I recently started playing Paths of Glory after having played the learning scenarios years ago- its a deep game that has you agonizing over all of your choices. You can enjoy it at all skill levels.

To me, the 'Shelf of Shame' consists not of games you haven't played, but games you are desperate to play... and they remain unplayed. "Paths of Glory" is on my list, along with "Gato Leader" and "Pendragon". "Washington's War" and "Gladiator: Quest For The Rudis" round out my Top 5. There are others such as "Combat Commander" that I've played solo, but would love to play 2-player. Good topic & list!

Gladiator: Quest For The Rudis is a sad story from what I've gathered. The primary author died not long after it was released, didn't he? There are also numerous card revisions. US Civil War I have played original several times but I have never played my copy of this version. Paths of Glory got a second hand copy of it but I never even opened the box. Got SPQR, out of the shrink wrap otherwise unused. Genesis, Here I stand I have got them both unplayed. The one I really should play is the Devils Cauldron and Hells Highway combined. I even have a pristine un punched copy of Case Blue and a shrink wrapped copy of Blood Reef these are more like investments than games. Most epic games ever played to completion The Next War SPI The Longest Day Avalon Hill War in the Pacific Victory Games.

I've since picked up and played Heroes of Normandy, so I definitely enjoy LnL Tactical. I'm beginning to wonder if the square grid is putting me off playing Day of Heroes, even though looking at the map, it makes perfect sense to use that sort of grid.

Great video .... But for me I no longer count them ..... More like ROOMS of games. I just recently started playing Panzer... WoW. I avoided it since 1980, really. Until now they launched a France 1940 expansion with ... SOLO RULES. Top 10 material. If you EVER wanted to know the exact difference between a Panzer IVD and a PanzerVG... this game will blow your mind... frankly. Easy to play even (at least for wargamers)... :) I guess a few dozen others are hiding in my closets (RAF, Dauntless the battles of Fornay something, Nightfighter Ace, well around 100 extra boardgames frankly)... :)

Starkweather took Eric Lee Smith’s brilliant command system and turned it into several Monster series - the only manageable one of which is No Question of Surrender. Why? Because publishers (MMP and Compass) make more money per game the heavier the box. Simple as that. Never mind the wargaming axiom that: the larger the game, the less it has been playtested.

I find the endless presentation of new games a bit numbing after awhile. It's just no way one can find the time to really delve into all the new games. I've had to (painfully) begin to cut down on new game purchases and conduct deliberate (excruciating) Sophie Choice decisions where my money will go next. In order to assuage the pain of not buying every new game that comes out, I've begun writing down a list - of "Want-To-Buy" but not actually buying the games. Seems to help a bit. Meanwhile, I'm making a redoubled effort to play the games I've already bought. Is this too much to ask?

I had to sell Shadow Run, Call of Cthulhu and Victoriana because I knew it was never going to happen. Still have Fate Core unplayed sat on my shelf.

@@ThePlayersAid I haven't played Shadowrun in forever. I'll stare at the rulebook in my local game store, fighting the urge to buy it. But, I have too many games as it is, and my group doesn't like to play anything that doesn't have an online character builder.

As Grant said.....quit your jobs and live in a van down by the river, spending your days playing wargames and eating government cheese. What could be better?!? As for games I have not played - since the end of December I have set up Skies of the Reich twice, looked at it for a few days, and put it away again. I almost get there, but not quite.....

This was a vanity project by the designer. A half-baked game that he designed a few years ago and wanted to see in print. PSC, who published it don't appear to have exercised any control over it. There is certainly very little evidence of development. For example, battles in an area involve dozens of dice rolls, (I'm not exaggerating), and having the information on the cards for the units is a pain as you are having to dig them out and refer to them during the game. The rules are poorly worded but - the unforgiveable sin - it just isn't fun. The best thing about it are the potted histories on the cards which was done by a mate of the designer. I'd challenge you to play it and still publish the video on your website. In fact, I'd happily bet you $20 donation to your website you aren't going to complete the game. It isn't worth it.

@@ThePlayersAid Totally agree re/ HR. It's one of those unfortunate efforts that suffers from poor rules review and editing. Kind of a shame. But as I stated and you guys at least allude to as well. Wargaming is a time intensive hobby at some level. And do I or you have time to invest invest in reading rules and understanding a game that has poorly written rules and/or poor game / simulation mechanics. NO, we don't . So we buy our games and take our chances we'll have a "few dude grenades." such is the life of the wargamer.
