Keep politics out of board games they said. Well, how about no. So many of my favourite games are deeply political, because games work exceedingly well at exploring conflict. And conflicts are by their nature political. Twilight struggle, paths of glory, bloc by bloc and votes for women. They all explore different conflicts in different ways. Oh, and Steph running for parliament is one reason you won't be seeing her on the channel any time soon. Will she be the first boardgame reviewer in parliament because that's really putting our board gaming into politics. Oh, and i suspect ill be playing some games with members of parliament at fundraisers and events over the coming year. It's gonna be a helluva time.
I love the time lapse of cubes to checks and X's.
Great review, but I wanted to point out that the game doesn't have to be confrontational. You can play this game cooperatively against an Oppobot. The Oppobot is very easy to use (a card deck) and coop is the only way my husband and I have played the game. It is our current favorite cooperative game.
GO STEPH!
it's beaut to see an area control game which isn't just about killing. (I tried coming up with one about gardening myself.)
Good luck Steph!!
Go, Steph! Go!
good luck Steph
War game mechanics in a skin that’ll appear to a different crowd. Really interesting.
Great review Jarrod! Definite similarities to Twilight Struggle and Watergate, which are among my favorite games. Thx!
Go get 'em, Steph!
A great addition to my CDG shelf, next to Labyrinth, 1960, 1989, Twilight Struggle,… and a great theme that deserves its own game indeed.
Probably won't get it due to the lack of success with wargames in my current collection but I'd give it a try on TTS. I love war games about unique periods of history (Red Flag Over Paris and Fire and Stone: Siege of Vienna come to mind). One that explicitly does not involve actual warfare seems refreshing.
What party is steph running for?
You have some oversights in this: it has a co-op mode, and it supports 4 players.
This was one of my biggest surprises of the year.
Shout out for New Zealand being the first country in the world to give women the vote.
Is the solo good? Good luck Steph!
Looks like a great game. Good luck, Steph!
One of the few games I bought before hearing your thoughts on it.
