FYI(all time stats), Messi(559 apps, 437 goals- 0,85 goal ratio); C.Ronaldo(723 apps, 466 goals- 0,68 goal ratio). I couldn't find all time stats for assists, but everyone knows, that Leo is a great team player, and a wonderful creator, Ronaldo on the other hand is very good in creation, but miles away from Messi, and he showed selfishness many times in his carrier. To end this argument: Messi never dives, and Cristiano loves to swim for his penalties, but to be fair CR7 is better at penalties and headers, but that's about it. Fortnite King Tony actually, your nationality is where you are born, or where you move to and become a citizen. Your heritage may be from Russia but that's different than nationality. For instance, to be able to play for Russia, you would have to go through a process to become a Russian citizen. You wouldn't just be able to say my parents are Russian and play for them. That's not how it works. Now if you go thru the process and paperwork, you could get cleared to play. Such is the case for Messi. He's Argentine. If he ever wanted to consider playing for Italy, or Spain or any other country aside from Argentina, he'd have to apply and change/update his citizenship before that would ever happen. The same thing goes for these players that come to the United States. It's not an instant process.

I always go for Pele when ever I watch these compilations of the usual suspects (Pele Maradona, Ronaldo, Ronaldino and Messi) because 75% of his games were not recorded which means that his compilations videos (all his dribbling and skills sequences) are drawn from only 25% of the competitive games he ever played in, yet his compilation videos are the most impressive of all. So many clips of his amazing dribbles actually lead to amazing goals (as opposed to dribbles that didn't go anywhere) and his greatest ever goal (against Juventus in 1959) is one of those that are not featured in any of his compilations video because it was not recorded. How many more great skills and goals did he score in the 75% of games that were not taped??... we can only imagine. The very first clip 0.16, where he stops the ball, draws two players on to him and then flicks it through his legs and leaves them both for dead, is up there with the best skills ever seen on a football field (which he did in a game against Russia, played in the Soviet Russia in 1963). By the time you get to Maradonna in the 1980s up to 90% of his competitive games are recorded, and as for Ronaldo, Ronaldino and Messi, every single competitive game they have ever played is on tape. In other words, the best thing Maradona, Ronaldo, Ronaldino and Messi ever did in a competitive game of football are in their compilation videos... This cannot be said bout Pele.

The most natural and gifted dribbler I've ever saw was a swedish right winger, Roger Magnusson. An iconic player of the french team Olympique Marseille in the late 60's, early 70's. In France they called him "le Garrincha suedois" and "le roi du dribble". As they say in France; if he had played for a more prestigious national team he would be as well known as Stanley Matthews and Garrincha. My favorite dribblers of all time include: Roger Magnusson, Garrincha, George Best, Jimmy Johnston, Robbie Rensenbrink, Littbarski, Ronaldinho, Maradona, Messi and Rene Housemann (Argentina).

Philip Duodu I respectfully disagree friend, I think maradona was better at passing he was very precise and had a larger variety of passes than messi. Messi of course has great precision as well but when I watch most of his passes are very similar, and I notice a lot of his passes are great because players like neymar and Suarez especially have great positioning, Suarez being a world class striker knows how to position himself very well. if your curious on watching a video on maradonas passing look up a video called " maradona pases" and you'll see all kind of passes that I rarely see from messi. like for example rabona passes, bycicle kick passes and passes from tight angles or passes were he is losing his balance and still manages a perfect pass.

Jose Rivera You made some good points. But Messi's been a great passer long before Neymar and Suarez arrived. Also, the fact that Messi, an attacker, is able to master the art of being able to give such accurate passes is much more impressive than Maradona, who was always a natural playmaker (that was his role). Also, rabona passes are not really special, since players like even Di Maria and Payet can do them. Neither are bicycle kick assists.

That is totally irrelevant to my post. Having a bad quality has nothing to do with the strategies that used to be at that time. Maradona is a legend too no doubt about that but that my friend was years ago when the whole defense system was different , technique weren't strategized the way the are now. If a footballer of this generation can produce a solo dribble all by himself , imagine what he'd do to defenders back then. You can clearly watch how defenders were lining up when pele took a shot or when maradona made a run. I mean C'mon it looks like they are just lucky rather than messi who even knows the position of the goalkeeper. The defense was shit back then. Plus, Messi has more speed than both of them combined and dribbling at that speed in this advanced era is something inhuman.

You are right, tactics are more evolved than before, unlike previous generations tactics influence a match lot more now, but you can also argue that defenders were more rough and had more freedom before, and well the defenders during ronaldo/rondaldinho were much better than now (no idea about pele's time). And unlike messi neither ronaldo or ronaldhino had their teams built around them, especially ronaldo, he played with so many different teams with much different tactics and was brilliant. What messi does is out of this world, but you can't deny that the team built around him had a lot to do with it.

in my opinion,nobody comes close to R9 in his prime and prime messi. R9 was the nightmare of all defenders,look at his pace and his skills,if injuries wouldn't exist,this man would go down as the greatest ever. And then look at Messi,this man is complete : dribbling,pace,skills,vision and he even can shot. Messi in his prime is untouchable.

hello walkman i know george best,he was a joy to watch too,there where many more that were great,bergkamp for an example. For me,R9 in prime an messi in prime were the greatest ever,but it's just my opinion 🤙 wish you a great day !

Christoph Linzner for me I totally agree with you in terms of everything you say. I think maradona is still the best because of his pure mind, and god like skill. Messi may have great vision but his playmaking, his transitions, his 1v1 dribble standing still. There’s deficiencies; maradona may not be as good but his effect on a game was greater than Messi/Ronaldo r9 especially the big ones

Its not how good you are. Its not about how good you are to watch .Its about how much scoring opportunities you create for your teammates and control the game. R9 is faster and more skillful than Maradona, but Maradona is the greatest footballer ever because of his ability to control the game.
