Happy to see the honorable mention on the Cascade. I scored on a Cascade XT 6.5 CM for my 12 year old son to use for his first deer rifle this year. Got it for a little over $530. Very happy with it. Great groups and having the ability to shorten the stock to 13" is really nice for kids or small stature shooters.

I agree with the list for the most part. If someone could stretch the budget a bit the CVA is worth it, or for a bit more the tikka. It is a shame the Thompson Center Compass is gone, it was a shooter. Love the Ruger.

Crazy deal. You get a pseudo CRF that you can top load, melonite/nitride sorta finish, 3 pos safety, locking magazine, integral rail, aluminum receiver, 60 degree throw, semi heavy threaded barrel. Awesome awesome awesome. They need to come out with a light profile barrel and then I'll take it into the mountains too!

I know some can be lemons 🍋 see BackfireTV’s issue with 2 Mossberg Patriot and your first Ruger GW in 7 PRC, but most of the time they’re shooters. The only two on this list that I haven’t at least handled at Cabela’s etc are the Howa 1500 and CZ Alpha 600. Great advice on finding a gun's favorite ammo. Some will shoot most anything. Many will not. Once I was shooting with a buddy. We both had the very same rifle. After awhile it was very obvious that each preferred a different ammo! We even swapped rifles - no difference! I think new owners are often disillusioned because they do not bother to find their new rifle's favorite. You spend so much time, money & effort making these "really fun" & informative videos for us - thank you Adam. We love you Brother.👍

I know this video is about budget rifles, but if a guy can swing another $2-300 before glass on a rifle you can get an even better rifle that not only shoots well but has a more quality feeling with better machining, smoother bolt, a better stock, and usually a little better trigger. With rifles like the Tikka T3X lite, Bergara B-14 hunter, and Howa 1500’s.

this summer worked up handloads at max levels for ruger ranch 300 bo bolt gun and cva stainless single shot in 350 legend. both with scopes in the $150 or less range and in 1-6x and 2-7x respectively. both rigs ended up shooting two shot one hole groups at 50 yds in the backyard. took some work and experimentation at the loading bench, but not a single factory round shot in them....which was my goal in the first place. who knows what they would have done on a calm day at 100 with at least a $150 class 3-9x optic on a heavy bench instead of a rest in the driveway on a $35 menards folding plastic table???? thanks wtw for your input and encouragement during the process!!!! in about a month, single shot deer season for my son. for the record, ruger single shot sled only functions with the ar pattern magazine ranch guns, not the older rotary mag ranch models....that was a $250 mistake. ouch!

And Savage pulled a real bum move with only making the axis in long action so they only had to make one action type and just chambering short action rounds giving up the benefits of a short action cartridge.

Never tested seating depth/COAL, Just guessed 2.810" and tried powder charges in .5gr increments... every 3 shot group was sub 0.5" and when I did test shots once I got them loaded it shot a .175" 3 shot and a .45" 9 shot group... needless to say, I absolutely love this thing. Have 700 shots through it now and have no complaints except that the bolt knob keeps turning loose because I don't have lock tite lol

Great budget choices. Maybe you can do a video on great budget ammo selections for Deer hunters. I see 308 and 350 legend plinking ammo for cheap and that makes for a good hunter. I'm not sure if it was a good choice, but I sold it so I could buy a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 compact rifle in 7mm-08. I've only been able to use it one deer season, but it killed the deer dead right where it stood, but so did the 243. I wish I could have both, but my budget wouldn't allow it.

Weatherby puts these actions in a nice stock and calls it the vanguard. if you are willing to go the surplus route, can't beat a swede m96, or for a bit more, a swede m38, both in 6.5x55 Swedish. check out 9 hole reviews for accuracy proof with irons.

Sorry that you got a dud brother, but happy that the good people at Ruger hooked you up like a catfish! I have the exact same rifle and so far, it's been awesome. Mine even handles Wolf steel cased 100 grainers well. Make sure to let us know how the new barrel performs... 🤓

Maybe for benchrest target shooting; however, lugging a heavy-barreled rifle around is not as enjoyable as most believe. It also requires a supported position for the majority of hunters, especially when waiting for game to move for the correct shot.

I absolutely love your reviews. I want to ask. I see you use a lot of Blackhound optics. I looking for an inexpensive scope for hunting but also for long distance shooting. I have a few Arken SH4 4-16X50 in mil and moa. Very accurate but kinda heavy for hunting. I had a couple Bushnell and Burris. The paralex at 100 yards wouldn't work. I mount everything and try to sight it in for 100 yards. If I don't touch anything and move my head side to side or up and down. The object moved..

I have a lot of blackhound because affordable. The weight of the blackhounds is probably pretty close to the Arkens. I actually just got an arken last week to try out

@WHOTEEWHO How is the paralex on the Blackhound? Does it seem pretty accurate? You will like the arken. I do. Unfortunately, I'd love to have a really good scope but the price goes with it. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Jeff D

@jeffreydohl6036 what I've found with all scopes is to ignore the yardage markings for parallax and just keep turning the dial until it is clear. Many times the "100" spot on thr dial may be off a bit.

@WHOTEEWHO understand that. It's just that the Bushnell and burris I have don't have the paralex knobs. Just have Windage and Elevation knobs.
