I was present at the final weigh-in at the 1971 Bassmaster tournament on the St. Johns River and Rodman Pool.(I think it was Bassmaster's second year.) I saw a fellow weigh in a bass that went 12 lbs. 13 oz. It was the largest bass weighed in for several decades of Bassmaster. Don't know if it still is. The limit back then was 10 fish, and the guy who won the tournament weighed in a 10 bass limit the last day that went 60 lbs. 6 oz., and he told us after the tournament that he caught those ten in a spot about as big as his boat.

I used to weigh all the bass I caught and was good at eyeballing them. I seen so many eights that were six it's unreal. When you catch a 10 plus you know it. But seven , eights and low nines all can look huge or surprise you that they weigh as much as they do... Point is bring a scale ,cause one day if your lucky you will catch an 11 plus pounder and will want to know the true weight. And not always wonder like me. I stopped cause I could tell on anything into high 8's... One day long after carrying around a scale I caught a monster shore fishing with minnows. Everybody said it was huge 14 plus... I guess it was high 11's maybe 12 but I don't know and had never seen one so big or have sense then. It was huge but I'll never know how huge. It was about 12" from the back to bottom of belly. Crazy... drives me crazy

Randy blaukat and ito designed that bait in the early/mid 90s. Randy sent the smithwick rogue and another jerkbait over there and pointed out different things about them that made them great and they tinkered from there. They all say ito engineered because it was quite literally an engineering process to get the hardware stout and still keep the bait at a neutral buoyancy while having a weight transfer system and such.

Try kayak tournaments, few hundred dollars for a yak, and you entry fee and boom, your all set to go. (Yak tourneys usually go by length not weight, typically you'll take a pic of a fish on a measuring board and measure to the nearest 1/4 inch before releasing the fish.)

What is the purpose of fishing in front of so many other boats. Is it to show off that you can catch a fish. Or is it because the other people are jealous and can't catch them themselves. I think it's kind of dumb are GloFish somewheres else

Rick Campos many people go to the lake during the big tournaments and follow the professionals around to watch them. It’s gotta be highly annoying for them but what can they do? They can’t make them leave. The lake doesn’t close to the public because of a tournament.

Boats spook fish, people moving and making noise also spooks fish. Fun story: my 8th grade science experiment was on whether or not fish could hear noise, What I did was everyday I was go to a farm pond that had a ton of bluegill and shiners in it and feeding them while playing "simple man" -Lynyrd Skynyrd. Anyway they get used to being fed and soon there's a swarm of 50-100 fish Everytime I go to feed. One day I go down there to feed, and before I throw feed in I turn on the music, and wouldnt you know the fish recognized it and came to the noise, 100 or so bluegill and gold shiners, and right in front of me a big 7 or 8 pound bass strolls through looking for something to eat, he never did pick one off, atleast not where I could watch. But I could tell he was looking for an opportunity. Moral of the story: if fish can associate southern rock played at a reasonable level with food, they can also associate boats and their related noises, along with human voices with getting caught.
