The Mim-4 Patriot is like 1-6 million per missile (not exactly public record) and will cost $2.3 billion to further develop and produce them. They will be in service till 2040. Don't know about the others.

I think it's because of Russia's S-400 and S-500 that U.F.O. sightings only happen in the U.S. of A.

S-400 is definitely best, but S-500 is coming.

Just an update on the Patriot... doesn't have anything to do with your ranking, just a little FYI. The PAC-3 version of Patriot has the ability to mount 16 missiles per launcher. The missiles of course are only as good as the radar and the computer program running everything, and you can buff a lamp from 1960, but it will always still be from 1960 lol.

@@azmicaseer8584 They don't have regiment sized groupings of Patriot systems. The battalion level will work in it's own area. Each battalion will have 4 batteries, each battery will have 6-8 launchers meaning anywhere from 96-128 missiles per battery, or 384-512 missiles per battalion without having to reload. Usually 2 launchers will fire all of their missiles and work on a reload while 4 others are operational.

What makes a good air defense system? Is it the ranges the missile is capable of? Is it the accuracy of the missile? What makes the s400 the best system in the world? It's really all opinionated and situational,no one can even attempt to get accuracy or hit ratio on the s400 because it hasn't shot anything down on the field

The RQ-4 flies at 60,000 ft (18 km) and 360 mph (570 km/h) it's not a difficult target to hit, especially since it doesn't do anything to avoid an incoming missile.

@Garrosh Hell ScreaM because they used low tech low altitude cruise missile. saudi defense system is not design to intercept that kind of missile because it is made to intercept high- altitude ballistic missile. oh well that is life, nothing is certain. no money can give you 100% protection. on a positive note, tons of missiles from yemen are being intercepted here in Saudi arabia. They lucky manage to land and hit oil plants after so many attempts.

If I understood right Patriot was developed to protect the very vulnerable aircraft carriers. It was never meant to protect entire countries. It is probably a different type of logistics task to protect one spot (ship) vs to protect a whole region

Marcus Lang no, it wasn’t. The Patriot system is land-based, not ship-based. It’s designed to protect ground targets. Not that it actually makes that much of a difference, it could theoretically defend a ship from threats as long as they are in range. It just couldn’t be put on the ships, at least not easily.

That’s not entirely fair, the Patriot has performed reasonably well overall, and also has the most combat uses of any air defense system of its class. Essentially, it’s altogether possible that other SAMs would perform similarly or even worse, but detailed information and comprehensive experience exist only with the Patriot.

They really need to learn to make their own. Reverse engineer or whatever. They can buy the tech from anywhere...China, Iran, Turkey...and build it. Best defense is one that is local to the area.

Layered defence is always best, Russia seems to have that covered!

If Chinese HQ-9 Air Defence System is so Robust then why China🇨🇳is buying S-400 Triumf Air Defence System from Russia🇷🇺?

Remember - Detection and tracking are far different than generating a fire control solution that will work.

It is about range, not about quality. Range is linked with cost of missiles, so every system has its own purpose. S400 is best not because range.
