I think this is a top 10 list not a top 5. Learn to count bro

The fact that Medieval 2 total war with the kingdom's expansion, has not one campaign but freaking 4 (!) campaigns with their own settings and factions is just unrivalled gameplay value that CA still haven't done anything that can compare with. Warhammer total war 3 is just starting to go near that.

It's from a time when we couldn't download a new content every month, so they had to release a true expansion to the game. It only counts as DLC in this list because that is how we fit it today

If they could just update Empire to be more like FOTS it would be the GOAT

@@Toni-xz4xn No, of course I read the comments. I'm saying context is important here. The last 2 historical games were terrible so they don't really count. And you can't seriously compare the sales of a 2023 game like Warhammer 3 to a 2007 game like Medieval 2. Yes, Warhammer is selling big. Dope. But if you don't think a brand new Medieval 3 on modern engines would sell like free sex you're crazy.

I really enjoyed Wrath of Sparta as well, it was greatly optimized, and I just enjoyed the unique scenario.

I would have added Rome Total War Barbarian Invasion to the list. It set a precedent for great DLCs. It added a new interesting world with completely different units and factions compared to vanilla RTW. The implementation of religion made for interesting scenarios like pushing the Western Roman Empire towards either Paganism or Christianity. I would only take down Hannibal at the Gates because I just never felt that it was as memorable as other DLCs I have played.

I always felt like FOS wouldve been a perfect base for a WW1 mod, with those modern weapons and bombardments and the ships

While not in the top 5 I love rise of the republic. Quite enjoyed the different factions and their abilities like Syracuse and their expedition or supporting city states back home mechanic.

Unpopular opinion here, but i actually like Wrath of Sparta. I probably have somewhere around 2-300 hours just put into that campaign alone. I mean yeah, hoplite battles are a grindfest and the unit variety is pitiful (can be fixed with unit mods though) but there is just something so satisfying about taking part in the struggle for greek supremacy meanwhile the persians carefully watch over you waiting to strike. The hegemony mechanic also stops you from swarming enemy capitals on turn 3 which forces you into a more dynamic playstyle which i really enjoy,

Last time i checked, Dei turns the wrath of sparta campaign into a wars of the diadochi setting. But sure, go for it.

Top 5 new campaign mods! Obviously there are a lot for the older titles, but maybe make two video for old and new titles (or even a top 5 for each game), as there are a lot of great mods set in unique start dates in Rome 2 and Attila especially, such as 634 Fire and Sword, The Last Persian, Age of Justinian, Age of Vikings, Greco-Persian Wars, Constantine, Cyrus the Great, etc. There are literally so many that I dare not list them all without typing too much.

Kingdoms for Mediaeval 2 was a big deal back then, the hotseat campaign was something coming out of dreams back then... But favorite is the one is the AoC for Attila, especially with some mods that you can play the Byzantines. Also Hannibal at the Gates especially if you have time and an experience friend will to go against is probably the best Total War experience I had so far

I do hope the next historic has some form of naval warfare in it

Had taken over almost all the map in Gaul but couldn't progress any further thanks to constant new full enemy stacks every turn, got pretty irritating and I never finished it.

A solid ranking. My personal number one is age of Charlemagne. Personally I don't categorize fall of the samurai with the dlc but it is very good! I would also rank Empire Divided pretty high up as well.

Using the shotgun fall of the samurai engine to remake Empires !!! I love the Fall of the samurai, the most rarest form of game play.

Good top, I agree with all except number 5, since I consider that all CA games after Attila are bad, but I understand the context of the video, personally I would have put the Rome I expansions at number 5. On the other hand, the others are indisputable, being for me the best ones of the Attila and Shogun 2, we must make an honorable mention to the Campaign of Belisarius in the Attila, which for me is very interesting, like the one of the Crisis of the 3rd century A.D of Rome II, since it is also one of the best periods that the game takes us to.

Fots gave me the want for a total war game set in the victorian age. Imagen fall of the samurai, with some polish and set on a world map (as in a map of the world that is). Now that game i want... Genuinly I think total war is a perfect game series for gunpowder battles (as in the line infantry age kind of thing... though would not say no to a pike and shot total war either)

@@TheTerminatorGaming Uh yeah, I would have put it there mostly of it's influence on Total War Attila, nothing in comparison to AoC of course, but as CA I would be really proud of the Last Roman.

Pretty solid list. The only thing I’d change is swapping out HaTG with empire divided

Kingdoms still 1# for me

I just want an Empire revamp with,at a minimum level, Atilla features such as nomad, razing, and thr city/town structure

kingdoms is just another breed, currently on my third and boy if all DLC were like this ...

The tuetonic campaign is god tier. I love the tuetonic knights the most out of all the knight orders. If med 3 doesn't have the tuetonic order I will be so mad.

Rise of the republic should be top 2. Definetly the campaing i had the most fun playing. And the variety of faccions is also amazing.

I liked actually the idea of the truth behind the myth. as thats my idea of how those myths created by ancient people by narrating the stories aagain and again and every person adding a bit of an exageration of the facts that happened

I also love Empire Divided.

Saga = Artillery go BOOM!

You should've made a top 10 list so you could include empire divided and rise of the republic too

It's a Top 5 List and they didn't make the list :) I love them too don't get me wrong, but I think these are higher up in terms of how well they're made and how much impact they had on gameplay

Medieval 2 is the only title i spend a significant number of hours in. And i loved it, great modding and console commands. Empire dissipointed me. Still waiting for medieval 3….

Fall of the Samuri was so good, I've never played shogun 2 since, only fots

the very artificial realm divide in ROTS and the base campaign ruined shogun 2 for me , fots doesnt have that so i liked that quite a bit

AOC was literally an Attila reskin & devs admitted it took less than a month to create.

Speaking of *_WAR WEARINESS_* , what are some good ways to end it and get back to the battles??

You can call TW Napoleon as a DLC for Empire, so it could belong to the list

Really hope the next title is empire 2 or medieval 3. Preferably empire 2 to be honest, i never played the game until recently despite owning it since release and it's honestly got a lot of depth for all it's faults. The campaign map and choices are the best i've played in a total war title.

I honestly wished that Shogun 2 had a mongol invasion mode that would be amazing

Personally, I didn't like FOTS. The mechanics and features were great no doubt but the authenticity was so lacking I was barely able to play it. Immersion matters to me but that is just my preference. Still a great expansion in it's own right, I'm not arguing that. Thanks for the vid.

First, i havent played since shogun 2. What at that point made me stop playing, one of the reasons at least, seeing a whole unit of infantry where only a few soldiers actually engage the enemy and the rest just stand at look on😵‍💫 I have no idea if recent titles still has that limitation, i really hope not.

Fots being a standalone dlc broke many things in the game's code, unfrotunately. Most things can't be fixed

Also with Troy the heros being too OP. Rather than a strong general with an army it's more like a GOD with some groupies. I liked the battles otherwise though. It was unique amongst other TW battles, aside from heroes being too OP which is a HUGE issue for me in WH3. Espically those Chaos lords who can tank entire armies by themselves.

It should be caveated with ‘historical releases’ label imho…

I have never seen shogun 2/ FOTS been the best total war ever it's so far down my list the only thing I consider that it had going for it was the online play other then that it had the most boring and weakest campaign in all of the total war games.

Rome Total War : Alexander is the best Total war DLC because the map looks like a potato

Hannibal at the Gates and Caesar in Gaul are just too overrated, cities stretched too thin without any real value, not really any special units to play with, disabled politics which makes their campaign even more bland. Really great timelines, not much effort put on them. Based on my own thoughts you must have put on their place any DLC between Rise of the Republic, Empire's Divided (a really unique must DLC) and maybe Wrath of Sparta.

In comparison, Empire: Warpath was one of the worst DLC of the series imho.

Yes Hanibal and Ceasar its always memorable, BUT memorable how bad was that done. Medieval is played with milions of players today, BUT they dont bother to fix bugs they are there for decades (wait 10 minutes before all diplomats and princesses on map go thru their animation- AND NO its not try to bribe , princess cannot bribe ! ). Mythos is better than ALL of those (i said that even if i currently play medieval 2 with Vanila kingdoms mode). Fall of the samurai 100%

You stole your logo idea from black pigeon speaks and this is NOT a top 5 bro. U mentioned like 10 different dlc in this video. Hannibal at the gates and ceasar in Gaul are 2 different dlc, there are no ties in baseball pal. Next time call it your top 10 dlc instead of top 10 tied dlc.
