Top 3 Driver Mistakes Golfers Make | Mr. Short Game

Спорт

In this video I show you the top 3 mistakes all golfers make with their driver. Then I give you ways how you can fix those problems and hit better drives and find more fairways. The tee shot is one of the most important shots in golf so hitting straighter longer drives is a key to lower scores. Swing the butt backwards. I’ve never heard that before, but now I will deffinately think of it that way to help my body rotate. Something I’ve not learned yet. Thanks Matt 👍

I’m in year 4 of a 9 hole golf league on a course that has 27 holes. I’m as good as ever, with a consistent 18 handicap… because that’s they highest they allow. It’s more like 24! I was down to 16 for a bit, but it didn’t feel any better inside 🤣. I spent most of this season with no driver even in my bag, until I played an outing last weekend and someone suggested I try theirs and I crushed it. Back to having a driver! I hope to go blast some buckets of balls soon to practice what you’re laying down. Good stuff!

In this video several of the problem issues like hands ahead at set up were things I was doing with inconsistent results. I took your advice from this video and went to the range to try them out like setting up with the hands back versus forward. I was hitting all of my clubs better and with a slight draw which was always hard for me to produce. I watch all your tips on Roku so I can't hit the like button or comment unless I go on the computer. Great job love the channel

i've had a pretty bad slice on my drives for a long time now and have played around with a lot of "fixes". as simple as it is, putting your hands in the middle rather than out front seems to make sense to me and i can see how it closes the club face. i'm excited to try that out friday when i play next. i really enjoy your videos and i like how you break things down so its easy to understand!!

Love the swing thought of "swinging" your butt backwards. I watch a lot of golf videos, and there are a lot of good instructors here, but this was the best thought I have seen about clearing the hips. I tried it on the range and my drives were going dead straight, then again on the course and was working more time than not. If I get that unwanted fade, I can pretty much tell right away that I didn't swing it back. Can[t wait until it is just part of my motion and I don't need to think about it. Thanks!

I did your 5-stroke challenge and because if that, I have been shooting not in the 90s, but in the low 80s and high 70s. I use an old set of Titleist DCI Gold irons with a Titleist D17d3 driver and Titleist 980 F 3 wiid Married to a Titleist "Scotty Cameron" mallet-style putter. I play better with blade-style irons like the Walter Hagens I have but at a $1000 or more, I can't afford them. Now, because of your challenge, my brother and the rest of the guys I play with hate golfday, lol. LOVE IT! KEEP UP WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!! Charles

Super Great tip! I Think we all or at least most of us have had or still have some issues when lining up and ready to go🏌🏻‍♂️⛳️ Especially the tip with where the hands should be when driving out. That makes really god sense and I must admit that up until now have been one of those people who would have my hands to much aligned with my left leg when using a driver. And sometimes I couldn’t figure out why it when a little right anyways even though it seems that i did it all in the right manner. So thanks a bunch 🙏🏻👍🏻🤗

I feel what turns the hips are the knees. My right knee needs to be two inches in towards the target. It’s my swing trigger. Watching you it’s obvious that the right knee bends slightly back in the backswing. I had the first golf lesson in my life Thursday. Never to late to teach an old dog new tricks. I took your advice and didn’t look to play a round of golf right after the lesson. At the range at LaTourette G.C. , while concentrating on the new insight I learned at Dollar Bill Divot Club in Staten Island, NYC , I miss hit about 40 golf shots. I then in desperation moved my right knee in towards the target. Then I learned to turn my hips with my knees. All power in sports is generated by the lower body. Better sense of balance. I’m seventy but felt memories of being in my forties. I received a refund notification from Athalonz of $33.99 . I had signed up for notifications from Athalonz but when responding to their email I forgot to use your discount code. I need to stretch the right toe box a little. The leather is soft and will stretch in time. It’s a new company and I need to see if they have 2E or 3E width like my marathon sneakers with New Balance.

Matt, I have been using a lot of your techniques in my game and have definitely lowered my scores. Long irons, sand play, and chipping from long rough. Your suggestions worked wonders. THANK YOU. this video interested me because recently I’ve been topping my drives. Not all but 5 out of 14 today. Even with the topped drives I was still able to post an 85. A great score for me. If I could eliminate those topped drives I feel I can shave even more strokes...help!

Love your content!!!!! The one thing that really worked for me was swinging the butt around. I am going to call it the butt move, when I tried this my club head speed increased and weight transfer went from my back foot to front automatically. I know you use a lot of Volvik equipment, is there any chance you could do a review on the Volvik V1 Rangefinder. I have got one and it works great but the instructions are terrible. Keep up the good work 👏👏 all the best from one of your British fans.

Here is by far my #1 - and it isn't even close in terms of how important it is - and that is, Pick a Shot Shape before you do ANYTHING. If you force yourself to pick a shot shape 1st, then everything that follows as you approach the teed up ball (body alignment, club face alignment, swing path thoughts, impact thoughts to get desired spin axis tilt, body feelings to deliver the club at impact to control desired face to path, seeing the ball leave the tee with the side spin that you desire) - all of it will be secondary instead of PRIMARY if you don't make Shot Shape your main thought. It is so easy to hit a reasonable quality shot with the driver and NOT end up in a good spot if you don't do EVERYTHING to maximize your chances of success - and that starts with Shot Shape and everything that follows from that. I've recently gone through this with a few guys on the range helping them and the results are almost startling. When your entire focus of being is on delivering the desired curvature you have chosen - you will make it happen a huge % of the time - and that will result in a massive increase in your chances of hitting fairways - and in golf, hitting the fairway with your Driver is the single biggest factor to lowering your scores. Pick Shot Shape 1st - then focus 100% of your energy on building your stance, targets, alignments, swing ideas to make it happen.

After watching many of your great videos, I have learned with the spray powder that I consistently hit the ball on the toe. Since I learned about this I am aligning the club face with the heal (shaft) end of the club. Well, my drives have been awesome (flying straight and getting about 250 yards). Should I just continue with this or continue to work on my swing. I am 71 5'7" and no plans to be a pro. Again, thank you for all your wonderful videos.

Now I have to hit the range! For my driver, I tend to setup with a big forward shaft lean. I would always slice, so used a stronger grip to compensate. I'm going to try to pull this back into the middle and see how I hit. As for my back pulling up, I don't see it so much on my drives, however I used to top a lot of my irons. For some reason this season (which just started), I hit great on the range, but as soon as I jump on the course I get nervous and top the ball. I started swinging with very little turn of my hips for fear of lifting off the ball, causing me to have to up a club in certain instances. Weird how it's only happening on my mid irons/wedges though. My long irons I hit just fine. Thing is, it's like a 40 yd difference on my PW wedge. Perhaps thinking to turn 'with my butt' will keep my body down. Hoping to hit a little bucket this weekend to warmup and try this before we play this Saturday with some buddies!
