Swing the butt backwards. I’ve never heard that before, but now I will deffinately think of it that way to help my body rotate. Something I’ve not learned yet. Thanks Matt 👍
You're an awesome teacher. You keep it so simple. You're not bombarding us with too many swing thoughts. Thanks 👍
This video popped up in my recommends and it changed my game completely I shot a 84 (7 strokes under my best game)
"then someone yells out 1" LMAOOO😂😂😂
OMG thank you so much. I’ve been setting up with my hands forward for ages and do that lean back thing also. Just tried this at the range and it has made a huge difference. Thank you!!!
Mr Short Game you saved my golf game - so many instructors on line but you are the only one for the common golfer trying to break 80.
I’ve been playing this game for over 20 years. I’ve changed my game more watching your videos then I ever have before. I cannot thank you enough.
Can honestly say the best golf instructor I've ever come across, superb

IKR. Wouldn't you love to play just one round with this guy and pick his brain? Sign me up.
Thank you! Thank you! The hand placement thing just cured my 100m awful slice... now it goes where i want it 240m down the fairway :D
Sir I want to thank you ,you have helped me tremendously I'm just learning the game and simply wanted to be decent at it .But I'm hooked and thanks to you I've made some great gains already ,from you're driver tips alone ,the shoulder back and down ,to your chipping tips my game is already improving ,thanks again your the MAN appreciate all you do .......thanks Raul
I just wanted to thank you! I recently found your videos. Driver improved, 40-60-80 yard shots improved and irons off the tee totally fixed!!!!
Looking forward to trying this out. I have been watching your videos for a while now and they have really helped my game out. My average keeps getting better and is now a 92. I am striking my irons much better now and even chipped in a 40yd shot for a birdie. Keep up the good work!
I’m in year 4 of a 9 hole golf league on a course that has 27 holes. I’m as good as ever, with a consistent 18 handicap… because that’s they highest they allow. It’s more like 24! I was down to 16 for a bit, but it didn’t feel any better inside 🤣. I spent most of this season with no driver even in my bag, until I played an outing last weekend and someone suggested I try theirs and I crushed it. Back to having a driver! I hope to go blast some buckets of balls soon to practice what you’re laying down. Good stuff!
Thank you for all your tips. They have helped me really improve my game from tee to green. I played a course near me the other day for the very first time and thanks to your tips I shot a 6 over par (77 gross) Thanks again from a very happy golfer 👍👍🏌
Love your style not tons and tons if information, no bs just entertaining useful stuff. Thank you.

Golf information is about usefulness and relevance to problem, not quantity per say. Plus his style is very energetic . David, I may have over reacted to that tons and tons stuff.
Simple, fast and easy! Awesome! Thanks, Sir.
This was super helpful!!! Thank you so much:)
Loved the video. Thanks for the help.
Excellent, Very simple and direct! I will do this, I am sure it will help with consistency. Thanks
Great video. I've been watching for about a month now and I have put your teachings into place with success. Thanks again.
In this video several of the problem issues like hands ahead at set up were things I was doing with inconsistent results. I took your advice from this video and went to the range to try them out like setting up with the hands back versus forward. I was hitting all of my clubs better and with a slight draw which was always hard for me to produce. I watch all your tips on Roku so I can't hit the like button or comment unless I go on the computer. Great job love the channel
Awesome video, I saw your video yesterday before start my round, thank you! It really helps me!
Great work Matt will give them a try
i've had a pretty bad slice on my drives for a long time now and have played around with a lot of "fixes". as simple as it is, putting your hands in the middle rather than out front seems to make sense to me and i can see how it closes the club face. i'm excited to try that out friday when i play next. i really enjoy your videos and i like how you break things down so its easy to understand!!
Excellent tip !!!!!!!!
Love this. Great vid
I have had numerous golf lessons from a guy who constantly told me to get my hands well forward. I am now watching your videos. As you guys like to say, 'go figure?'. I love your chipping and pitching videos and they have really helped. I'm going to try your Driving tips on the course tomorrow. Thank you for the great videos.👍
Mr. Shorts you have helped me tremendously. Thank you. Have not been able to hit my driver and you described my at the start if this video. See know I am able to gain the confidence to hit my driver.
Top man. Great vids. Short, sweet and to the point. Excellent.
Im addicted. you make total sense. Great Job.
Love your energy, nice approach to golf tuition.
Mistake #3 was me until i found this! You fixed my driver swing. Swing my butt WORKS! This and chipping with the driver drill has brought me back to form. THANKS MR SHORT GAME!
Great videos Matt really enjoy your content
Your work is a gift. So grateful that KZread allows me to learn from you.
Great stuff as usual!
Love tip #2. Thank you 🙏🏻
Love it fantastic swing thought cheers 👍🏻👍🏻🏌️🏌️
Been getting frustrated with snap hooks for a month or so now. Took these tips to the course today as a last resort and drove the ball beautifully (especially tip 3 👌)
Dear Matt, can we apply these tips for the FW woods, irons? Thanks
I like this guy..he's funny and serious at the same time
You are a very good teacher.
So pour your instruction!! I dig the way you teach!! You know the Amateur mind how we think!! And of course the time we have to play and practice. So you are a speed teacher!! I have drop 4 strokes in just 4 weeks of tuning into to your videos!! Still a work in progress. But going from 92 to 88 as low as 85 Boom Boom!! Keep making me a better golfer!!
Great video!!!!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Was spraying them right yesterday. My hands were too far forward. Going to try centering set-up and see what happens. Thanks.
This really helped me out thank you.
This makes lots of sense. Thank You.
Great advice!!! I have benefited tremendously from your instruction since I found your channel! Thank you and keep up the great and valuable content!!
Excellent advice, its taking some practice but I think I'm getting there.
Will try them out 👍
over 4 years later: still excellent advice
Tks.. simple.. helped my game 100% love ya...
I love that you dont tell the long winded stories in your instructions. Love it.

Yes, and he's hilarious in some of his other videos.
I love your channel…really good thoughts for a good swing.
This is my basic setup and swing, at 66 I can hang with my 40 year old buddies and frequently out drive them. For alignment I use the divots and other Mark's inside or just beyond the tee box.. nice video, keep em coming..
Great tips
Love the swing thought of "swinging" your butt backwards. I watch a lot of golf videos, and there are a lot of good instructors here, but this was the best thought I have seen about clearing the hips. I tried it on the range and my drives were going dead straight, then again on the course and was working more time than not. If I get that unwanted fade, I can pretty much tell right away that I didn't swing it back. Can[t wait until it is just part of my motion and I don't need to think about it. Thanks!
Hi matt Like the butt move, with the driver, will try that thought.keep it up enjoy your lessons.
I did your 5-stroke challenge and because if that, I have been shooting not in the 90s, but in the low 80s and high 70s. I use an old set of Titleist DCI Gold irons with a Titleist D17d3 driver and Titleist 980 F 3 wiid Married to a Titleist "Scotty Cameron" mallet-style putter. I play better with blade-style irons like the Walter Hagens I have but at a $1000 or more, I can't afford them. Now, because of your challenge, my brother and the rest of the guys I play with hate golfday, lol. LOVE IT! KEEP UP WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!! Charles
Super Great tip! I Think we all or at least most of us have had or still have some issues when lining up and ready to go🏌🏻♂️⛳️ Especially the tip with where the hands should be when driving out. That makes really god sense and I must admit that up until now have been one of those people who would have my hands to much aligned with my left leg when using a driver. And sometimes I couldn’t figure out why it when a little right anyways even though it seems that i did it all in the right manner. So thanks a bunch 🙏🏻👍🏻🤗
Good advice. Making it happen is of course another challenge
Thank you for the tips - will take it to the range and see what happens - Darren (UK)
Great tips. Subscribed
Hey there Mr Shortgame... I really like your simple fun style of instruction and am gonna go to the range ASAP to try out your chipping tips...can’t wait ...thanks Johnny from N Z
Great vid bro :)
Appreciate how consistent your audio is as you move around.
I moved my hands back, and it was a game changer! It’s the little things!
I feel what turns the hips are the knees. My right knee needs to be two inches in towards the target. It’s my swing trigger. Watching you it’s obvious that the right knee bends slightly back in the backswing. I had the first golf lesson in my life Thursday. Never to late to teach an old dog new tricks. I took your advice and didn’t look to play a round of golf right after the lesson. At the range at LaTourette G.C. , while concentrating on the new insight I learned at Dollar Bill Divot Club in Staten Island, NYC , I miss hit about 40 golf shots. I then in desperation moved my right knee in towards the target. Then I learned to turn my hips with my knees. All power in sports is generated by the lower body. Better sense of balance. I’m seventy but felt memories of being in my forties. I received a refund notification from Athalonz of $33.99 . I had signed up for notifications from Athalonz but when responding to their email I forgot to use your discount code. I need to stretch the right toe box a little. The leather is soft and will stretch in time. It’s a new company and I need to see if they have 2E or 3E width like my marathon sneakers with New Balance.
Matt, I have been using a lot of your techniques in my game and have definitely lowered my scores. Long irons, sand play, and chipping from long rough. Your suggestions worked wonders. THANK YOU. this video interested me because recently I’ve been topping my drives. Not all but 5 out of 14 today. Even with the topped drives I was still able to post an 85. A great score for me. If I could eliminate those topped drives I feel I can shave even more strokes...help!
Excellent
Man that action is like Molinari lite! Keep up the work brother.
Another great program my friend. Be well.
love you 2 man your the man James from Scotland
Everyone needs a new driver, fixes everything! This lesson is very helpful
Thank you teacher
Good job....🏌️🌞🤘
Found your site by accident, love it, going to subscribe and be a regular viewer. Thanks
Love your content!!!!! The one thing that really worked for me was swinging the butt around. I am going to call it the butt move, when I tried this my club head speed increased and weight transfer went from my back foot to front automatically. I know you use a lot of Volvik equipment, is there any chance you could do a review on the Volvik V1 Rangefinder. I have got one and it works great but the instructions are terrible. Keep up the good work 👏👏 all the best from one of your British fans.
Good stuff bro
Oddly having my hands more towards my lead leg has corrected a major slicing issue i had, guess we are all different . My hands are forward but just barely off center like inside lead leg and this simple change has made a world of difference for me.
Matt is a fun and clever teacher...
Good review. My 3rd mistake is over the top. Anyone who plays combat sports tends to rely on upper body to overpower the golf ball. Resist the urge to hit and think about sequence, practice driver swing with pauses from the top.
Great simple thought....instead of all the rotating thoughts just swing your butt around and stay down in the shot. That is a much easier thought process. Great idea...I love your chipping videos also.
you Da man, thanks
Here is by far my #1 - and it isn't even close in terms of how important it is - and that is, Pick a Shot Shape before you do ANYTHING. If you force yourself to pick a shot shape 1st, then everything that follows as you approach the teed up ball (body alignment, club face alignment, swing path thoughts, impact thoughts to get desired spin axis tilt, body feelings to deliver the club at impact to control desired face to path, seeing the ball leave the tee with the side spin that you desire) - all of it will be secondary instead of PRIMARY if you don't make Shot Shape your main thought. It is so easy to hit a reasonable quality shot with the driver and NOT end up in a good spot if you don't do EVERYTHING to maximize your chances of success - and that starts with Shot Shape and everything that follows from that. I've recently gone through this with a few guys on the range helping them and the results are almost startling. When your entire focus of being is on delivering the desired curvature you have chosen - you will make it happen a huge % of the time - and that will result in a massive increase in your chances of hitting fairways - and in golf, hitting the fairway with your Driver is the single biggest factor to lowering your scores. Pick Shot Shape 1st - then focus 100% of your energy on building your stance, targets, alignments, swing ideas to make it happen.
Hey man. I almost never comment but your tips are awesome. None of the bull. Just the important parts that enable us average joes to enjoy the game. Can't wait to go try them out.
I would love to go golfing with you, you're a cool dude! Not all stuffy like most golfers
Got me in tears at @ 1:35
Matt as always great video. My swing thought is,”Turn the Screw”. I wonder who I learned that from? Be safe!
After watching many of your great videos, I have learned with the spray powder that I consistently hit the ball on the toe. Since I learned about this I am aligning the club face with the heal (shaft) end of the club. Well, my drives have been awesome (flying straight and getting about 250 yards). Should I just continue with this or continue to work on my swing. I am 71 5'7" and no plans to be a pro. Again, thank you for all your wonderful videos.
Hello Matt, do you have a video for tips to getting clubs fitted to a person? I don’t know where to start. Thanks
Hey man cannot stop laughing ....... you are so concise it hurts !!! with out any doubt whatsoever you would have to be one of the greatest teachers of the game EVER !!!!!!
Will try this tomorrow morning, first time doing 18 holes
Great video, thank you very very much, I am the hands forward guy. Now I will not do that anymore, thank you very very much, fantastic video my friend.
So my buddies have been trying to tell me how to do the last tip. Leave up to Mr. Short Game to dumb it down. Lol thanks man!
Some good thoughts there 👍 🤪
Thank you so much for this.... I top my driver all the time and it kills me deep inside each time!!
Man homie, I believe what your saying but you made me crack up with that swing the butt thing.. I'm sure I will get some looks while I'm doing that at the range.. lol
Not a country club member.. just love the game. Tks for helpin the poor joe..
Now I have to hit the range! For my driver, I tend to setup with a big forward shaft lean. I would always slice, so used a stronger grip to compensate. I'm going to try to pull this back into the middle and see how I hit. As for my back pulling up, I don't see it so much on my drives, however I used to top a lot of my irons. For some reason this season (which just started), I hit great on the range, but as soon as I jump on the course I get nervous and top the ball. I started swinging with very little turn of my hips for fear of lifting off the ball, causing me to have to up a club in certain instances. Weird how it's only happening on my mid irons/wedges though. My long irons I hit just fine. Thing is, it's like a 40 yd difference on my PW wedge. Perhaps thinking to turn 'with my butt' will keep my body down. Hoping to hit a little bucket this weekend to warmup and try this before we play this Saturday with some buddies!
Love the backswing....wish you had a tracer on those drives cos they sounded pure.
