    Love the golf journey. I used to love hitting high flops shots from pretty much everywhere within 50. Now, if I have just enough space between fringe and hole I hit my 50 degree vokey, close the face, keep it low, high spin. Seems so much easier to consistently control distance this way. Great tips as always thanks

    I spent the entire Covid last summer chipping, and the one thing I would add that helped me (I'm a 5 handicap), is when faced with an actual ball, on actual dirt, my eureka moment occurred when I decided to let the lie pick the side spin I was going to play on the ball with the above technique - either cut or draw. Looking at the way the ball is sitting in the grass will reveal how a club will get more easily through the shot (cut or draw). You of course also want to analyze how you want the ball to approach the hole - but the lie is the DOMINANT factor. Opening that clubface and hitting a slight cut across the ball for slice check/release, or ever so slightly hooding the club so the ball will hook check, adds a degree of forced analysis on the ball's lie, and it will make you look and focus on playing an actual shot to an actual flag - this is the CRITICAL thing you have to do if you want to score well in golf - you have to take a generic practice/drill technique (this video) and convert it into scoring. My summary is: look at the lie, pick a draw or fade stroke given the lie so you will be 100% certain in your mind, pre-shot, that your decision is based on the actual lie, and then 100% focus on the hole and the break coming into the hole - with a tiny landing spot you want to hit. Then, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse the type of swing you see in this video - but those swing thoughts are secondary to the ball's lie - which gives you either an out-to-in slice, or an in-to-out draw, through contact, stroke, and resulting check-spin, coming into the hole. The ball's lie is your #1 consideration.

    Thank you so much for posting this quite simple but yet very effective method. THis afternoon, I went to a nearby practice green, (the temp was a cold 45 degree) and kept my forearms close together just like holding a ball. With a 52 degree U wedge and 59 degree wedges, your method worked quite well. Here were the results. the dispersion patterns were tight ,the distances were easy to control the landing zone and the roll was soft. I used more of the shoulder turn and the body turn to move the triangle. THANKS AGAIN.

    I got back into golf last year after being away for 15 years. I saw your vids on the 60-yd, 80-yd, 100-yd shots showing this technique. It really worked well for me and was a big part of me getting back to a 9 handicap. Utilizing the bounce by opening the club face was a new concept for me and I really like it. I’m not a big “practice swing” person, but using practice swings on these and visioning the ball coming off the club, hitting the landing spot, and the release reading the green, helped me get more consistent. I practice swing 2-3 times before hitting the shot. As I really got the feel for it, especially around the green in your zone 1 primarily, I would begin to alter my swing angle (from the inside or from the outside) to reduce spin or increase spin if I wanted the ball to run or to check. That is a bit more advanced and would not recommend without developing consistency first. I would humbly add one thing to your lesson: while maintaining the triangle form, muscles have to be lose. A stiff swing will not work with this technique. The only places I found where this didn’t work well is in really thin grass or bare spots. The ball needs to sit up off the ground. Other than those areas, I could not be happier with learning this. Thank you for all the time you put into these vids. It makes a difference.

    I grew up on small "turtleback" greens that are built above the level of the fairway. So I learned how to chip with lob wedge as usually you've got to get it up quick. Now I struggle chipping with anything under 54*. Working on it though...my main 3 shots are standard pitch/chip, low spinner, and lob shot (not quite a flop but similar just longer arms and not as much hands.)

    are you going to get in on these matches that seem to be finding their way onto other KZread schedules? Zac Radford is mixing it up with the "Good Good" boys with the videos this week. I know you have played Coach from Golfholics but it didn't hardly feel much different than Big Cat happening to mention their total scores from time to time. I think you would have a better look with the Brits like Finch, Shiels or Robinson. Andrew Jensen comes to mind as well. definitely adults participating in the matches. also, any plan for visiting Myrtle Beach now that you're in GA? I know it's not the glam of some of the resorts and CCs in your group plan, but there are some notable tracks and fun signature holes to tackle.

  • @wallstreetoneil

    @wallstreetoneil

    3 жыл бұрын

    You don't want to - 90% of the PGA tour will use a similar amount of natural wrist movement for 90% of their stock shots. It is the other 10% where you will see more or less wrist for specialty type shots - for example, you can take a mid-length swing and in a bizarre feeling way, take out all wrist movement, and it will turn into a short flop shot that will come out with near-zero spin and roll towards the hole

    Only thing I disagree with is use of the 60° most amateur golfers struggle hitting the ball high on short shots (opening the face) a 60° to get over bunkers is invaluable for high handicap golfers in that position. Use of mine is different as i play a 04L grind vokey for the grind due to course conditions, a high bounce 54/56 just doesn't match the course I play in the summer but as I say different point

  • @clintsanderson6019

    @clintsanderson6019

    3 жыл бұрын

    Want to get better - learn to use the bounce (not the leading edge). Giving a higher handicap a 60* to chip with introducing the leading edge leads to chunks and blades all day long. Teaching them to pitch with an open the face on a 56* (or54*)introduces the bounce. Chipping with the 60* requires perfect contact for consistent results. Pitching the ball doesn’t require perfect contact. Slightly heavy the ball lands short and rolls out, slightly thin and the ball carries further but bites up with spin. WAY better dispersion without requiring a perfect strike.

  • @neiltaylor1765

    @neiltaylor1765

    @@clintsanderson6019 I'm not thinking chipping/pitching I was more referring to flop type shots to a short sided pin over a bunker. Loft there is your friend, especially when you think there are options to have very high bounce at that loft (14°k vokey as an example) I game an 04°L grind purely due to conditions and will spend hours every week practicing shots around the green when conditions allow

    Do I have to wear a mask at the pro shop because if I do I ain't playing there or anywhere that requires one. No more insanity!

    In the pro shop, as in all closed spaces, you’d better use it. Not playing or walking outside: that’s really useless.
