Natchez is a city in Mississippi. Set on the Mississippi River, it’s known for antebellum mansions like the unfinished, octagonal Longwood, and the Melrose estate, part of the Natchez National Historical Park. Once a trade route, Natchez Trace Parkway is now a recreational road and scenic drive. To the south, Grand Village of the Natchez Indians is home to a reconstructed Natchez house and three ceremonial mounds.

I was born here @ Charity hospital. I often stayed summers with my grandparents on Beaumont St ....I always wonder what it's like here now in 2022. My grandparents are deceased and most of the family and friends/ neighbors I was raised up around. Watching from Dallas Texas I see so many fond memories here

One of the 27 things that Natchez, Mississippi is known for (or should be known for) is that in the 1800's.. it was a Concentration Camp (i.e., The Devil's Punchbowl)

Correct but not many know about that and some of the ones that do wont talk about it. I learned of that 4 years ago at the age of 34. I googled the deep history of Mississippi as well as watched a youtube video on The Devils Punch bowl. My great great grandparents are from Mississippi and Arkansas.

@Mali Bella 💯 also the Forks in the Road slave trading post, Modern day Liberia was settled by free slave from natchez and was originally named Mississippi in Africa, just for kicks Nellie's whore house lol, Alexander O'Neal was born there, they've filmed a lot of stuff there too including Say it Loud a James Brown biopic movie. William Johnson "the barber of Natchez" is the richest black man in Mississippi history from Natchez. Look up Nelly Price a former slave who fought in the courts for her freedom and last but not least the Washington-Rounds family of Will and Alice Washington from Sibley Ms and Natchez Ms. It's a great story and my family too!

....because the freed slaves had no where to go, nothing to eat, nowhere to sleep. The Union soldiers established this camp down in that hell hole. People started dying of disease. When they ask the Union where to bury them.. "Bury them where they drop" Numbers dead are said to be 20,000, but I guess freedom comes with a high price.

In the early 1990's, I visited a cousin who was living near Hattiesburg. One day she drove us to Natchez. We stopped in the center of the city to purchase tickets to see some of the historic homes. One was the home of the Mississippi Daughters of the American Revolution, where we learned that General Ulysses S. (?) Grant made the house his headquarters during the Civil War; moving all (or most) of the furniture to the attic so that it wouldn't be damaged. We had lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Mississippi River & the Lower town and street. On that day, the Mississippi was docked down there. After lunch she drive us to Longwood to visit this very unusual unfinished home. It certainly has a very interesting history and unusual shape to the home. We enjoyed our visit to Natchez very much. Leaving Natchez proper, she drive noeth on the Natshez Parkway. After driving several miles north, we saw a sign for an Indian mound and left the Parkway to explore this site. We read the sign, and then climbed to the top, where we walked the length of it. This mound reminded me of mounds I had seen, from windows of a car I was traveling in, many years before in Ohio.

In about 2010 a friend from Jackson that I was visiting took me down there. I instantly fell in love with your town! Being from Nashville, (which is where the Natchez Trace begins) it takes almost exactly the same amount of time to get there on the Trace as it does the interstate and such a beautiful drive. I was ready to move house and my business there after just one day!

I’m from Tennessee and I’m thinking about moving to Mississippi some day. I’ve looked at Natchez, Yazoo City, Picayune, and Columbia. I’d like to start a catfish farm down there. I want to live in a small town that’s similar in size to the town I live in in Tennessee (5,000 pop.) I wanna live somewhere that has good fishing and good land for farming but is also close to a nice town that has stuff going on. I don’t want to be too far from Jackson so I can get flights to places. Any recommendations on where to live?

Sorry i just saw this comment and didn't get a notification from it! You mentioned some great cities.. Columbia, Picayune and others in that area like Wiggins are cities that are under 5k but have conveniences of being by interstates or state highways and are close to shopping/business.. There are a lot of rural towns off hwy 59 or hwy 20 that would suit your needs. The only thing I would tell you is not to move to the bigger cities like Jackson, Hattiesburg, Gulfport/Biloxi, etc.. because that is where the crime is. The other smaller towns offer really cheap cost of living, low taxes and no building restrictions outside city limits. You can pretty much do anything you want. Hope this helps! If you have any specific towns please feel free to list them or shoot me an email. PS: I have a lot of towns here on the channel that you can see and drive through. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I might take a trip down there this summer if the whole corona virus situation has cleared up. Something that really interests me about Mississippi is how far your money goes when buying a house. I like all the old houses you can get in Natchez but the location seems a little inconvenient. I really like the location of Columbia but don’t know much about it. Have you ever been to Columbia and is it a nice town or is it a place you wouldn’t want to live? And does it have a lot going on there or is it run down? Thanks for the info.
