She was a prodigy. Unfortunately, as for any female athlete from the 70-80s, there will always be speculations of hgh and testosterone abuse. That shouldn’t take anything away from the absolute perfection her running form was. Never seen anything like that before or since.

I think the most consistent and the one with lots of medals is probably Merlene Ottey of Jamaica, she was racing from the late 70s - Early 2000s and she medaled at every Olympics from 1980-2000 (other than 1988) and was probably the most consistent runners we’ve ever seen.

She is incomparable to anyone else. Her longevity is unheard of. She ran sub 11 in 100m past the age of 40, and in 2012, age 52, she ran 11.96. It's absurd how long she lasted. She's also ran sub 11 more than any other female sprinter in history. The fact that she never won Olympic Gold is baffling.

  • @owenmorris9828

Kinder Yes she was outstanding to say the least she’s by far the greatest and longest standing athlete we’ve ever seen. She’s probably got more medals that what was listed on that video. Yes it is quite odd that she never won an Olympic Gold medal because the speed and strength was definitely there. I don’t think we will ever see an athlete like her again and if we do it probably won’t be for centuries because what Merlene did was totally incredible and outstanding. If she doesn’t make it into the top 10 of the list I will be shocked completely because she’s by far the greatest we’ve ever seen with all her accomplishments over all the decades she ran for.

I’ve always been a fan of the great Decathletes. If I had to pick the best of the best I’d probably go with Daley Thompson. One of three men to win two consecutive Olympic golds in the event, undefeated for several years, four consecutive Olympics. Dan O’Brian might have been the most talented-aside from the 1500 he had no weak events. He was, however, maddeningly inconsistent.

I gotta put David Rudisha in my top 20 because the 800 is “the hardest running event ever”, and Rudisha’s record will stand over 50 years if not for centuries (like Bolt’s). Rudisha’s world records, also like Bolt’s, look absolutely effortless. That makes him a 🐐. Also I would switch placements of Carl Lewis with Michael Johnson. MJ is way better than Lewis. Sorry not sorry.

Johnson No. 15 all time? It begs the question if you ever saw the man run. Let’s take his performances in the Olympic Games in Atlanta. He becomes the only man to win the 200 and 400 double setting a breathtaking world record and an Olympic record respectively. He goes on to retain his 400 crown in Sydney. His world championship resumé speaks for itself, only Bolt has more gold medals. He had outstanding longevity and was essentially unbeatable over 200 and 400 for close to a decade. He faced the likes of, inter alia, Reynolds, Watts, Young, Marsh, Fredericks, Boldon and dispatched them all. Of course this list is subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but your opinion is wrong.

Jim Thorpe better be number 1 or close to it! I'm guessing the other 9 are Usain Bolt, Edwin Moses, Carl Lewis, Jesse Owens, Roger Bannister, Paavo Nurmi, Peter Snell, Herb Elliot and Jackie Joyner-Kersey. Honorable mentions are Abebe Bikila, Kipchoge Keino, Alberto Juantorena, Sergei Bubka, Bob Beamon, David Rudisha, Lasse Viren, Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, Bob Hayes and Fanny Blankers-Koen. Lists are fun but very subjective!

Yeah no shit. It has to be subjective by definition when you're comparing apples to oranges like this. Only when comparing athletes over the same distance can you even begin to be objective and even then there are multiple varying factors that make it less possible.

There better be a decathlete in the top 10. that slogan faster, higher, stronger is the epitome of the Decathlon. Take Ashton Eaton. He had two Olympic golds for the decathlon in 2012 and 2016 including an Olympic record. he got a silver in 2011 and gold in 2013 and 2015 for the decathlon at the world championships. including setting a new world record. he even won 3 gold medals at the world indoor championships for the heptathlon in 2012, 2014 and 2016. again setting a new world record. for a span of 5 years from 2012 to 2016 he was almost untouchable in the heptathlon and the decathlon. He even holds event records for the long jump (8.23m) and 400m (45.00s), for the decathlon. which would've placed him in the top 5 for both events at the world championships in DOHA last year!

  • @sirsilky2559

in addition to this, he holds two heptathlon event records for the 60m Hurdles (7.51s) and the long jump (8.16m) which would place him 3rd for the hurdles and 4th for the long jump at the most recent world indoor championships in 2018. In total, he broke the world record for the heptathlon 3 times and broke the decathlon record 2 times across his career. he actually even represented the USA in the long jump at the pan American junior games. if this doesn't deserve a spot in the Top 20 than I don't know what does.
