CORRECTION: I mistakenly said that Andrew Stevens played the killer in 10 to Midnight, but it was actually Gene Davis. I’m sure you could tell from the video that I didn’t know the name, and looked it up in the moment. Unfortunately, I zeroed in on the wrong name. My apologies, and thanks to everyone that pointed this out.

When I found out that Runaway Train was a Cannon movie my jaw dropped. It is action, but has no sign of cheese, camp, and it's almost artsy, like 1993's Fugitive or a Michael Mann flick.

You're right about the Patrick Bateman comparison in 10 to Midnight. It's been decades since I saw the film (during its original theatrical release!), but after seeing your edits from it, I have to wonder if 10 to Midnight inspired both Ellis' novel and Harron's film.
Hi Daniel! I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and wow, those Cannon movies were a wild ride. Couple of my favs from your list are Lifeforce and Blood Sport.

I (like most people) only like & watch Lifeforce just simply for the butt bare assed NAKED alien vampiric energy sucking space woman HERSELF & VIRTUALLY NOTHING ASS ELSE okay @grey_wulf.
Runaway Train was part of that short lived period where Golan and Globus backed either established or up and coming filmmakers and for the most part stayed out of the way as long as the films didn’t go over budget. They were “package” flicks, where theaters had to book them if they wanted to get the new Chuck Norris or the new Bronson. Other good ones from that era are “Barfly” and “That Championship Season.” Any studio besides Cannon puts out those two, and they’d have been award show darlings.

Andrew Stevens did however play an entertaining and wacky , obsessed stalker of a news reporter played by Morgan Fairchild, in 1982s guilty pleasure, and cable mainstay at the time The Seduction.
Death Wish 3 had it all. Charles Bronson, Riveting script, inspiring acting, The Giggler, mail ordered firepower, Bill S Preston esq, Ed Lauter repeatedly calling Bronson “Dude”, Bronson’s love of Chicken for dinner, punk baiting with a Cadillac, World War 2 machine guns, ice cream and cameras, etc. Best Cannon film!
I saw 10 to Midnight because mostly because I like Andrew Stevens, and Lisa Eilbacher, who played Charles Bronson's daughter. And I found myself liking it, and really liking Charles Bronson as well. I think it's the first movie that I saw him in.
It wouldn't be a great summer without discussing Cannon in all it's glory! Well done, sir. I kind of love them all! Grocery store terrorist: "Man, I'll blow this whole place up!" Cobra: "Go ahead...I don't shop here."

Cannon was a great combo of 80s, cocaine and a foreign idea of the U.S.A.
As always what makes this channel so unique and essential is that Daniel goes the extra mile to cover films nobody else on KZread does or even knows or cares about. In my 20’s in the 1980’s you would have never caught me seeing any Cannon product. I was such a film snob, but all was not lost as now I love seeing all this cheesy crud and it’s not even nostalgia driving it! I think it’s because unlike action movies made nowadays the Cannon balls from the 80’s are not so self-referential, they are just solid action movies without pretension or ass wipes from other movies the directors grew up watching on cable. THESE are those original movies that defined cable! It’s where it all started!
Now must see Dangerously Close.
Excellent list and super fun video Daniel!!

Really enjoyed this!!!
AWESOME! Takes me back to my childhood....love Bloodsport! Hey by the way what's that mask in the background? Looks familiar but can't seem to point it out!!!! Help me out!
FANTASTIC list! I absolutely LOVE Cannon in high school, and during my Army service in 1980's, I would rent their films almost every weekend!
Loved Cannon films. I’m lucky to have seen all these films you listed in the theatre back in the 80’s. The film GYMKATA feels like a cannon film, but it was MGM.
I will never forgive Joe Zito from moving to action films with Chuck Norris. He had the potential to be an excellent horror director, but he moved to mediocre action films (in my opinion). It also makes me sad that Tobe Hooper’s Cannon movies were box office bombs, because they were probably the best canon films I’ve seen. Lifeforce and Invaders from Mars is great, and TCM 2 is pretty solid for what it is, although I don’t jive with the humor.
TCM2 is a perfect sequel. Man you're cranking out the videos these days! Make sure you're following your own advice and enjoying yourself. Peace, love, and 10/10 fricheks

haha Thanks man! So far so good.
TCM2 is one of my favorite horror-comedies, partly because it's so batshit crazypants, partly because the entire cast goes for full contact and full commitment, and partly because it features one of the best soundtracks of its era: Concrete Blonde, the Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Timbuk 3, and more. When it comes to great "alternative music" 80s film soundtracks, only Repo Man exceeds TCM2.
This comment is going to date me. But I hadn't heard the name Michael Dudikoff for decades. And I could hear the sax from "Careless Whispers" when I did. I have not seen any of his movies. But I had a huge crush on him when he was doing the TV show "Cobra". For many years I avoided movies that I thought might be too violent. However, as the years have gone by, for better or for worse, I've toughened up when it comes to bloody violence. Listening to your reviews I think maybe it's time I become familiar with some of my old crush's movies from the '80s.
You have good taste.
Invasion USA is my Christmas movie, above Die Hard. Thanks for including this one! It’s time… please for a New Year’s Evil Watch party. My NYE jam!
in 1989 my best friend at school had a huge collection of videos and me and another friend would 'bunk off' school and stay in his house watching them all day. It seems that most of these Cannon videos were in his collection. I guess they were a company making films for 80's kids. That Cobra cover always looked so cool to me. Runaway train was an excellent movie when I first watched it. IDK if it aged well though.
A+ video! LOVE IT! Look like awesome movies!
I really like that harpsichord sting at the beginning of your videos.
Great list!
From space mutants to Chuck Norris, Cannon was AMAZING in the 80s! It's so hard to narrow their filmography down to 15. I love this video though. Keep doing your thing, Cobweb!
I've always remembered Invasion USA for the scene of the guy cursing out another guy in Spanish for knocking over his soapy water bucket, lol
Excellent Thumbnail Excellent upload sir,
Death Wish 3? Murphy's Law? Runaway Train? Superman 4 I LOVE 'em!
I love the Dudikoff
I’ve never heard of Dangerously Close but now I need to watch it like yesterday!
My personal favorite from The Cannon Group is A Cry in the Dark (1988) with Meryl Streep and Sam Neill. It’s based on the true story of Lindy Chamberlain, whose baby was killled by a dingo in Australia and the injustice she and her husband Michael suffered until their ultimate acquittals.
Best fight tournament movie is Enter the Dragon
Fun list! And yes I am one of those who love love loves Masters of the Universe 😂 and not shy about it ! But again we can always agree to disagree cause at least you mentioned American Ninja and Dangerously Close and Cyborg 😁 and you nailed a lot of the prime Cannon flicks too!
Cobra was my jam when I was a teenager. I remember when I finally saw it again years later as an adult and I realized just how ridiculous the movie is. My love for it grew exponentially. I'm a sucker for over the top 80s B movies.
Andrew Stevens played he luitenant to Bronson who was trying to date his daughter he was notr the bad guy, don't remember his name but this was an awesome film especially the ending with a standoff with Bronson and the bad guy Bronson had the best line and perfect shot.
That was a fun watch! My #1 has gotta be Barfly.
I had to go back to the comments of this video to say : thank you ! I'm currently watching avenging force (wich was kind of hard to find because it is labeled as american ninja 2 in France) and I'm having a great time, very cool action movie.
This a great list. LifeForce is my favorite of all, very solid story, and some of the special effects were top-notch for that time period.
What a great list!!
Here is my list of fav. Canon Films. 1. Bloodsport 2. Delta Force 3. Kickboxer 4. Death Wish 2 5. Cobra 6. Invasion U.S.A. 7. Missing In Action 3 8. Death Wish 3 9. Over the Top 10. 10 to Midnight
I'm a big fan of your channel! You could be my long lost brother because we like so many of the same horror movies. I may have missed it, but have you seen 'Play Misty for Me?' It's pretty great.
I think lifeforce should have been number 1. Not only is it the craziest of the Cannon movies (which is not small feat), but it also kind of fits on a meta level. Cannon films did not have much commercial success, and even though they produced a ton of cult hits they just weren't making the money. Lifeforce is the perfect encapsulation of that.
Kickboxer, Bloodsport, and Over The Top are my top 3 favorite Cannon films with a nostalgic honorable mention to Masters of the Universe.
Eugene M. Davis played the killer in 10 to Midnight. Andrew Stevens played the other cop.
This was a great video. I have so many memories of going to the local shop to rent the latest vhs releases from this era. I'm 50 so this was basically my childhood/teenage years home entertainment. Bloodsport is also a favourite of mine and I just re-watched Lifeforce last week as I hadn't seen it in ages. Runaway Train is also a belter and any of the ninja/martial arts fests they made. My dad also loved Chuck Norris so we watched as many of those as we could. Just thought I'd also mention that I'm a woman and I still love all of these films, even the crappy looking ones with hilarious storylines and special effects. To me that's added enjoyment! 🤣 So nostalgic.
I love Over the Top! You also have Kenny Loggins with the soundtrack! "Meet me halfway, across the sky"

Definitely agree with your number one pic, bloodsport was my favorite movie when I was a kid, just recently picked up the 4K and if you’re that big of a fan of the movie, it’s well worth the upgrade
The ending of Runaway Train has to be one of the best every filmed with Voight standing on top of the train leaning into the wind.
Last American Virgin has a savage ending that more movies should take notice of as it depicts real life a lot better than the fairy tale ending we are all used to seeing in Hollywood.
