Fun fact: back when Erosion was printed, there was a rule that stated that you could not use a permanent with an upkeep cost until that cost was paid. This made Erosion marginally better. Still terrible, but somehow better.

zephyr spirit. and 0/6 creature that cost 6. if it blocks return it to its owners hand. thats really bad as alot of walls that cost 2 mana can have 6 toughness. wall of tangle cord. wall of earth. wall of junk. shield sphere. and costing 6 mana to recast will bog your mana down.

Ah, good ol' Scornful Egotist. It often appears on lists like this. Good to see the fact it's part of Scourge's high CMC stuff get mentioned, to show why it exists.

Phasing, for example, saw no use for a Long time, and now Teferi's Protection is in almost every commander deck that runs white. i just wonder when they're going to return to banding. Aaaaany day now. I unironically think it could be pretty usable if they put in stuff with, eg, "Creatures that band with this gain Flying", or maybe a 0/6 that's meant to band with your low toughness attackers to protect them.

I was surprised not to see Snowfall. The only thing the card does is give you the mana to pay for its own cumulative upkeep. It is completely useless.

That's not what it's for at all. It's to pay for other cumulative upkeeps, it just has cumulative upkeep itself to keep you from running away with the game on mana. Whether or not there are enough attractive cumulative upkeep spells in the game to warrant its use is another discussion entirely, but as printed it's a perfectly reasonable card to play in a set revolving around that mechanic.

That's still a use. Piracy, even when used in conjunction with Mindslaver, is *completely* useless.

Unsually, the argument can be made that creatures can not be the worst card of a color because they always have the upside of being able to attack or block. Blue, however, is unique in how terrible some of its larger, high costed creatures are with downsides like sacrificing islands just to keep them on the board or untap them. I still feel all of these worst videos should really spend more time reading old enchantments as so often absolutely worthless cards exist from the early days of magic that are worse than even a 3 mana 1/1. Cards that cost mana to do borderline nothing or even have such prohibitive costs to maintain in addition to a high cmc like [[psychic alergy]] that in most scenarios would end with you more likely to lose the game by playing it rather than just keeping it in hand.

A 'Top 10 card effects that are closest to flavor text' which discusses those mechanics separate from the cards carrying them or any meta considerations would be an interesting list.

Scornful Egotist is such a flavor win, though. I love it.

I think the point of the Saprazzan used to be that under rules of the old game, it put one damage onto a blocking creature before it was bounced back due to damage using the stack

There's one more point about Merchant Ship that you didn't mention: Its downside and upside run counter to one another. While blue tempo decks, counter-burn, and a few other Izzit aggro archetypes _have_ seen some play, blue is usually a much more controlling color. This means that your life total against a blue player is rarely relevant, so even _if_ 2 life a turn was good enough to counter an aggro deck, the decks you can use Merchant Ship against are almost never aggro.

An interesting thing about the Cephalid Snitch is that it was printed in Torment, where not only were there more black cards in the set than other colors (as well as being more powerful). Interestingly, there are five cards in the set that can have or grant pro black, so while the card is still terrible it's not as niche as it first appears.

Back when color pie was not a meme blue's weakness were supposed to be weak creatures and it shows clearly in this video.

Homarid is based around the idea of its strength ebbing and flowing like the tide. Which is a neat concept and I'd say the mechanic does get that idea across pretty well. Still a terrible card, but I would at least consider it a flavor win

Fun fact: In Homelands there is EIGHT creature auras and TWO of them are upsides (Feast of the Unicorn and Carapace). Man, Homelands set is WILD.

I appreciate that you go in depth to explain *why* these cards are bad. I feel like that sort of information is useful for newer players.

Defensive Stance can see some use in preventing "whenever creature deals damage", deathtouch and lifelink effects 🤔

Amusingly Erosion is pretty great in Shandalar since it uses the ruleset before you could use the land to pay for itself *and* the AI is generally not smart enough to pick the proper choice.

I could however see Wizards making a Commander that puts Aura tokens on opposing creatures that have some effect if the creature dies. In that case, Baki's Curse might be eventually worth something.

Old game rules would have him deal 1 damage, and then bounce back to hand before it died in combat.

I ran scornful egotist in my Ninja Commander deck as it's high man cost was useful there and worst case i could cast it facedown for a blocker.

I want to see Mono Black Magic make a Juggle the Performance and Dichotomancy deck

Errosion would be great if it targeted every land your opponents control

I think there are pretty much even worse blue cards than some that are on this list but im too lazy to look for them... except Vizzerdrix.

Admittedly Vizzerdrix at least DOES something, even though it's very bad at it. But a Vizzerdrix may win you a game, even though it comes out way too late.

Shout outs to Zephyr spirit 6 mana (U5) 0/6 that unsummons itself when blocking. I'll call it decisively worse that a 3 mana 2/2

I actually used to play with Scornful Egotist. When I was young we used to cut our decks n whoever had the highest mana cost card went 1st, so having 4 copies of an 8 drop meant I was more likely to go first but instead of having a card sitting in my hand til turn 8-10. I effectively had 4 Grey Ogres n back then at our kitchen table a 2/2 for 3 wasn't bad, it wasn't great, but not bad either. N as u said, once I drew into Rush of Knowledge, I could restock my hand for 6 mana. N I also used the dispersal shield n a few wizards matter cards that he could synergies with too once face up

That's funnily enough pretty much the only card where the spell Break Open is actually useful against.

I have a Scornful Egotist deck, a high mana value matters deck, the deck that a try hard tournament grinder friend said "this deck doesn't exist".

I can't believe snow fall is not on the list heck i can say thats number one on the list it makes island tap for two mana and snow island for three mana......but they made it the worst card ever because that bonus mana can only be used on cumulative upkeep costs. making it virutally useless since cumulative upkeep barely ever exist in other formats even commander (one of very few that sees play is Mystic remora but it usually does it duty after a couple of turns.)

I was surprised pale moon isn't on this list as people often mock the card, but after seeing these pale moon looks like an allstar in comparison since it can at least punish nonbasic lands for a single turn in the same way moon effects do.

@@finalflameKorisky Dead ringers isn't bad though, it's a 2 for 1. The biggest criticism of the card is being hard to understand what it does, but once you get it it's like oh you can destroy two target blue creatures with it, two red creatures, two white creatures, etc. etc. It's only fairly bad in the context of the draft format it was present in where people would be running 3+ color decks so having two creatures of the same color(s) on the opponents side was hard. Put the card into lorwyn draft for example and it would be one of the best cards in limited there only being surpassed by draft bombs like bitterblossom.

These are very sloppily made. Tons of spelling and phrasing errors

I agree Dichotomancy is pretty rough, but Suspend 3, each opponent skips a turn for 1UU would actually be pretty solid :P
