Okay, I can't call it "an otherwise good movie", but the twist in M. Night Shyamalan's *_"The Village"_* is ridiculous because they would have had to purchase all the airspace over *_THOUSANDS_* of cubic miles to prevent aircraft from flying within visual range of the *_ENTIRE_* horizon of the village and up to 250+ miles vertically (because, you know, some satellites and the ISS would appear in the night sky eventually).

I wonder how movie audiences would have reacted if the Volturi had travelled halfway around the world to have a chat with the Cullens', then leave. Having read all of the books, I was shocked when the movie came out and the fight scene hit hard, but the twist brought me back. If nothing else, the movie ending is far and away the better ending over the book.

I remember watching that movie, that was legit the only one I watched in theaters and I sat there like “Now wait a minute.” Then I found out it wasn’t in the book. See the twist isn’t the issue, I like the twist. My issue is that the bad guys didn’t use that as an advantage!

You’re wrong about the Twilight one. I think fans were excited about the action scene and also relieved when it was revealed to be a vision. I think general audiences may have wished they committed to the twist, but overall it made the climax of the movie better. There’s no huge everyone dies battle in the books, so for cinematic purposes it makes more sense to have that twist so audiences don’t die of boredom.

The one thing I didn’t like about Now You See Me was Ruffalo’s character locking up Morgan Freeman’s character, just because he…tried to expose Ruffalo’s dad as a fraud? Even though he had nothing to do with the dad’s death? And yes, I’ve seen part 2. I dislike part 2 and part of the reason was the ridiculous way they tried to resolve a twist the first movie didn’t need in the first place, by revealing Freeman to be a lead member of the secret society.

Look...I read those terrible Twilight novels, and while I hated them enough to never watch the films,I'm aware of the climactic battle at the end of the last film, and how it turns out to be Alice's vision. The film DIDN'T follow the novel, because NOTHING HAPPENED in the book. It was SO anticlimactic and stupid. This left the screenwriter(s) with a unique problem, because they HAD to do SOMETHING. Given their predicament,I thought that they did the best they could to fix it. So this is all on Stephanie Meyers for writing a terrible non-ending to her stupid, boring vampire novels.

The irony of David Gayle is that people knew the truth, but they framed themselves, so someone is executed for crime they didn't commit. So, in reality, the people who don't speak out committed the crime of death. Because they didn't have any evidence to the contrary, the court system worked. The irony is that the people who put the movie out showed that innocent people get put to death when that law is available, but they really proved otherwise.

Actually, the unexpected twist in "Last Christmas" is precisely what makes the movie so interesting. First, we typically don't expect such plot twists in romantic comedies. And once it's revealed that he is a ghost, you find yourself reflecting back on scenes and realizing that no other characters ever interacted with him or even met him, because she was the only one who could "see" and "feel" him. Though heartbreaking that their love couldn't carry on in the living world, the twist set the movie apart.

The whoile point of the fourth Twilight book is to *avoid* the fight with the Volturi. But that would have made a very boring final act. I think the film did a brilliant blend between giving people action and still keeping the twist of the book. In fact, they even managed to give book readers who knew what happened a twist too which is tricky to do. I was expecting it to happen differently when I saw the trailer but it was well done imo. SPOILER ALERT --------------- I remember being really shocked when the fight started and beloved characters died, and the reveal it was a vision it was brilliantly done.

The twist in the last twilight movie wasn’t bad, I liked that it was a vision. I don’t even mind that it wasn’t in the book (although I get the book fans being upset with the twist as well) my issue is that vampire leader sees this vision, every move made and every attack that killed them… and didn’t even attempt to kill Alice and her boyfriend! How awesome would it be for him to at least say, “Thank you for letting me know.” Then he rips her head off or maybe kills her boyfriend, idk something. Yes I got that from hishe but dang it makes sense!

Films will have to continue to deal with September 11, just like others involve wars, slavery, genocide, etc. Many films tackle subjects that were real-life tragedies. For instance, "United 93" and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" address 9/11 directly, but this doesn't mean that they disrespect the incident. Actually, just from the brief clips shown here, you can tell that the 9/11 reference is approached with a gentle touch.

Yes I wasn't really offended with the plot twist of the number one choice. I've read articles online about people who actually lost people closest to them on 9/11. I think one person I remember said, "Hollywood can create whatever fictional narrative they can around that day it still won't change the fact that I actually lost so and so..." Definitely not speaking for people more closely connected to this national tragedy but this imo would hardly be the most offensive way to include or talk about this event. There have been definitely way more offensive media films and documentaries that have been disrespectful to this national tragedy than a coming of age romantic drama.

    4. You know people actually HATED the Star Ocean 3 plot twist, right? YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO COPY IT! Something similar also happened with the ending of Dragons Quest: Your Story. If you want a similar concept done right, LOOK AT THE SIMPSONS GAME! It's basically the same thing DONE RIGHT! Except it's established as early as the second level and was self-aware enough to mock this premise.

Lets be real. The Twilight fight was because the producers knew that the climax of the book is as interesting as watching the gras grow for days. the volturi come, there is a boring talk of how the volturi are so evil, and the voltuir leave. pure boredom. so this twist at least gave us something to watch

Now You See Me was bad because Ruffalo's character put on his FBI act even if no one was around, which makes no sense unless it was solely for the directors to use it to hide the reveal from the audience. A good twist has to work within the reality of the film.

Reavealing that Luke and Leia are brother and sister feels forced (no pun intended), even though George Lucas might have intended it from the beginning. For me, it feels like "We really surprised the fans by revealing that Darth Vader is Luke's father. Let's do it again. How about making Leia his sister?".

  • @hunterolaughlin

    @hunterolaughlin

    16 күн бұрын

Actually Lucas didn’t intend it from the beginning. Luke’s twin sister was originally planned to be a separate character and a Jedi training secretly on an undisclosed planet and the original idea for the sequel trilogy would’ve had Luke searching for his long lost twin sister. But a lot of stress resulting from personal struggles going on with balancing his film career with his married life made him scrap the sequel trilogy and try to wrap up “there is another” question fans had after Yoda first subtly hinted there was another Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back by having it be Leia.

I’m so glad that “Remember Me” was on this list! What a sloppily put together ending. I don’t mind movies using 9/11 as a subject matter. Some adaptations can be great, like “United 93.” “World Trade Center” was not the best, but at least it tried. “Remember me” is just lazy. There is no indication that Robert’s character died on 9/11/01 in one of the twin towers. It just feels exploitative and just another way to get sympathy points for bringing up 9/11 as a national tragedy. It was a tragedy that should be remembered, but how does it connect to the story at all? The ending just felt like it was sprung upon the audience. Even “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” which was a bit of a pretentious Oscar bait movie, mentioned the tragedy within the story in a way that made sense.

I disagree 3x. Last Christmas: that's actually a compelling dramatic twist for an otherwise very basic movie that makes one appreciate the fact that transplants don't just come as magical gifts out of nowhere, which people outside of those situations may not realize. Twilight: Damn, that actually gives me a little respect to have learned. Maybe you need to check your biases here; what, it's considered "weak" for a brilliant female character to shut down a *LITERAL WAR* with her brain? As a granddaughter, daughter, and niece of veterans I can tell you that avoiding the horrors of war is a GOOD thing. Yet there was still a final battle anyway. Have cake, eat too. Remember Me: Same as LC. Could've been forgettable, put a personal face to tragedy instead.

In the movie Identity we have what seems like a murder mystery at an isolated roadside motel. In the end we discover that the whole thing is just a fantasy sequence inside a deranged killer's head as he awaits execution, and all the "suspects" are just his multiple personalities fighting for supremacy. Which could actually have been a great story if it were done right, but it wasn't. It was just boring, pretentious, and disappointing.
