For me, the reason is simple. They know. They know that a 9-foot rim won't change much. So they refuse, so that the debate continues, knowing that everyone thinks this is the solution, and they pretends that the problem does not come from there, but from the lack of support from the NBA and the " conspiracy" aimed at not making them more visible.

  • @incredibilistic

@@Zguegon -- Agreed. I have a feeling that lowering the rim will be a tacit admission that men and women are actually different. Every sensible human being on the planet is well aware of this but it would go against the argument that women can do anything a man can do and do it better. And that's not a slam against women. It's just a fact that the bodies of males and females are different.

They gotta go 8 - 8.5 ft. Griner is 6'10". She can barely dunk. They can't jump. Almost all her dunks are freebies. They move out of the way to get a dunk into the books. She has performed about 2/3's of the successful dunks in WNBA history. She has missed almost half of her attempts. Hardly any of her attempts have ever been contested. There is a clip of a player's teammate getting mad at her for not moving out of the way, so Griner - on the other team, can dunk. WTF!! In fact, any player in the WNBA who can dunk, will be given free space to do so. You can't find contested dunks. A compilation video made in 2022 of every WNBA dunk in history is on KZread. It's barely over 1 minute long.

You and I pick up 3 random guys off the street and we're beating the Phoenix Mercury's starting lineup 100 times out of 100. Middle school boys are cooking WNBA players easily. If you deny any of that, you're living in your own fantasy. Their league is losing millions every year and they have the f*cking audacity to ask for more money/viewership when the audience is already telling you nobody cares(maybe the families of some players care and attend games through free tickets) about your league is utterly baffling.

@@trentrockwell6598 You don’t know what revenue means. As long as a company sells something, they’ll have positive revenue. Revenue is just the amount of money coming into the company. You’re taking about profit, which is the revenue minus the expenses. WNBA has positive revenue, but their expenses exceed their revenue which leads to a negative profit aka a loss.

I played basketball in high school but wasn't that good. At 6'3" I could dunk, I could block out, rebound, and I knew how to use my body to frustrate the opponents, but just wasn't that good of a shooter, and a mediocre defender overall when it came to dealing with the quicker guys on the court. With that said, I played a lot of rec league basketball and we found a court where we could lower the goals to 9'. Man, all of a sudden us average high school athletes were doing alley oops, reverse dunks, 360's, etc. It was the most fun we could imagine on a basketball court even though we didn't have any spectators. I have no doubt this would certainly help the WNBA and give it some much needed excitement. Enough to make a difference? I don't know, but why wouldn't you at least want to try?

I legitimately thought that some context was being left out. Nobody would be that openly rude. That would have just been despicable behavior over nothing. But nope. That’s it. That’s exactly what happened. The arrogance and hubris boggles my brain. And when people suggest lowering the rim, they get so angry and resentful. Like, honeybunches, you exist for entertainment. That’s it. No society needs pro sports. We have them because it’s supposed to be fun to watch! And if people aren’t having fun watching you, you need to fix that. It can’t be any simpler. The league isn’t there for your egos. It’s there to entertain. And right now, you aren’t doing that.

The fact they make 6 figures for a sport that ten people get guilted into watching is still insane anyway. They should look into the new trans athlete craze it might actually help their sport giving them their Wilt Chamberlain.

I honestly think lowing the rim is a great idea. It'll definitely bring more excitement, which is what the league should aim for, since it is one of the major factors that determine the revenue. The reason why the current WNBA players oppose that is because they don't want to relearn.

Difficulty is that they will then demand that EVERY park, EVERY school, EVERY location of a 10' hoop, that they will have a girls height hoop too. Or they have to modify every single one to adjust heights. Only way in the world that will happen is if the wnba pays for it, and that'll never happen

@@JD_49 No it's not, because if you look at most parks and schools, the average hoops are about 9'9". There was a video about that (I forgot who), but I'm sure you can look it up.

Last week we had a friendly match between afterwork teams (guys with an average age around 40 who mostly just played at amateur level during high school years) and yet there were more dunks and 3 pointers during those 40 minutes than during the usual WNBA match. The fact that those ladies really (who I am sure train really hard, don't get me wrong) keep bringing up pay gap compared to what the monstrous superhuman athletes in the NBA ear is ludicruous, especially considering that the reality is that the WNBA never drew a dime, so the % of revenue arguments sound rather bizarre.

I like Carlin’s old idea: Give em an exploding ball instead of a shot clock. They’ll hear that thing tickin & we’ll get to see 30 half-court shots a game. Instant revenue enhancer. 👌
