It's funny how some critics say that the movie was too much about her career. I am glad that it's that way. Her achievement in music supercedes everything that happened in her personal life. This is one singer who's career plunged ahead of her. She wasn't ready for it. That's why she turned to drugs. To cope.

this movie celebrated her life, her achievements alongside her tribulations, instead of what Blondie did, and the worst part is that Blondie made up a lot of stuff, and fictionalised a lot of her low-points just to exploit her for tragedy, i mean the fucking JFK scene, and the garish unbearable shots of rape and unease, that just felt gross. Showing tragedy is necessary but Blondie was exploitative as hell, it just felt insulting to her legacy, instead of celebrating her as a human being, it treated her as an object to throw gratuitous misery at

I unexpectedly burst into tears walking out right after watching the credits. I’ve rarely been hit emotionally after a film, and hadn’t known too much about Whitney Houston or been a follower of her music much. Just went because my wife was a fan. I’m so glad to have now been able to see not only how profound her vocal talents were, but also her meticulous choice of music. Her lesser known but quite substantial challenges behind the scenes were kind of a shock to me, but very well portrayed. I’ve become a huge fan now. I hope the actress who portrayed her wins an Oscar.

I agree! Though the actress did not look like Whitney, she sure had her voice inflections down. I thought it was very well done and the best depiction of all the biopics. I’m also glad they didn’t focus on her addiction but made it a celebration of her career with some insight to just enough behind the scenes. For instance, I always wondered why she chose those three songs for a medley, now I know. I loved also how they ended with that performance, given during the zenith of her career.

She was a person like everyone else. She had generational traumas, and toxicity. She had her own personal traumas from childhood. She just wanted to be who she was, not what others wanted her to be. Her purpose definitely superceded her inner struggles and everything else. We honestly were blessed to have seen her journey and witness her gift flourish throughout her career. Her struggles for fans became our struggles. We walked with her. Our lives are honestly only a season in the eyes of God. We were lucky she shared her gift with the world. Others aren't so lucky. 😢

I just wish people weren't stop being so colorist about her. It's not even down to just racism but colorism as well. Every other comment on posts for her MAC makeup collection (released earlier this month) is complaints about who can wear what shades and who can't. But she wore the colors in the collection and she has fans of more than just one shade. Its shameful for anyone boo her over her music being "too white" or "not black enough" what was she supposed to be doing?! What exactly did she need to do to be "black enough"? She was a singer. And she sang. Amazingly. Better than a whole lot of people who have gotten record deals. We lost a true vocal treasure with that woman and I think drugs are such a nasty, infectious danger to society and it's just getting impossible to stop. But Whitney was it. She was a true talent. Talent comes in every color, she didn't need to fit your expectations. She was enough all on her own.

Its crazy and sad to me that from her debut in 1985 to just around 1999 her voice was overworked and she was beyond tired in that short period of time. Thinking of others careers and how long they lasted she become soooo huge in just that short period of time. After 1999 most of her headlines were less about her voice and music and more about her personal struggles.

I think the movie is amazing. I like how it handled the Robyn and Whitney situation. The movie actually represented exactly what I was thinking: I don’t think Robyn is lying, what may have happened is that Whitney was experimenting like Anne Heche was with Ellen DeGeneres, but Robyn took it much more seriously than Whitney. And the movie not so much verbally, but visually explains how Whitney got in drugs and why she used them.
