Did you ever hear the tragedy of dark Plagueis the wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic, he could save others from death, but not himself.

#3 The mud camouflage wouldn't work for a thermal detector (visually it could work). Your body heat would just warm up the mud and would still be discernible with a thermal sensor.

Here are some more: - Jurassic Park: Alan Grant utilizing the T-Rex's poor vision when it attacks the cars. - Aliens: Ripley using the cargo lifter to throw the alien queen out of the airlock. - Rogue One: Rebels temporarily disabling a star destroyer with ion torpedoes, then using it as a battering ram against another one. - Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket's prison escape plan. - Serenity: Firefly crew lures the Reaver fleet to clash with the Alliance fleet to keep both of their enemies busy. - Empire Strikes Back: Millennium Falcon hiding in plain sight, then using garbage to mask it's escape from the star destroyers. - The Incredibles (animated yes, but I think it still counts): Mr. Incredible uses the first robot's own strength against it. Later, a random henchman shows non-typical "henchman-smartness" when fighting against violet. She's invisible and hiding in water, so he quickly throws sand in the water to reveal her position. Characters also use imaginative ways to utilize their super powers on various occasions individually or together.

William Daliege he mixed in his own shit to make it fertile. What he did was he mixed rehydrated faeces with Martian soil and hydrated it with hydrogen from the hydrazine in the MDV which he got by burning it. He hydrated the Martian soil and grew potatoes in it. I think that deserves number one. Edit: when getting the water, he ran the hydrazine through an iridium catalyst

Because bacterias' death was the reason he could not grow potatoes anymore after failure. Another example is the book's genius way he dealt with rover, that been replaced with images of him starving... meh.

yet even the martian was filled with science inacruacies just to make a movie. for example , the martian atmosphere is like 1-2% the density of earth's. no way in hell even a 700 mph martian wind storm would be able to blow over a rocket ship (but wind on mars never gets that fast because of the low pressure). pressure wise a martian windstorm doing 700 mph would feel like earths air moving at a slow 5mph. it wouldn't knock over an ant hill let alone a rocket ship.

The one thing that always bothered me about Alien is that ending. When it sneaks on the ship with Ripley does it decide to take a nap while she put on the suit and everything? Or was it just plot armor thinking it wasn't seen by Ripley? Why it didn't just attack her right away.

  • @notsampletext3740

While I agree it’s a gray area, the alien’s number one goal is survival at that point. If he hadn’t “napped” then Ripley wouldn’t have evacuated and thus they would’ve both died in the explosion. In my opinion, it works from this POV.

The alien followed Ripley and her cat onto the shuttle because that’s what a predatory organism does when a herd of its prey migrates. It just follows casually with no rush. If you drop two mice into a snake’s cage, the snake might eat one, but will always save the other till later, not even looking at it as long as it doesn't get hungry again because the mouse simply doesn't mean a threat to the snake. I think the alien was simply resting, saving Ripley and her cat for later, biding its time until another herd of human food comes along, from wherever herds of humans come from in this little metal universe. Then the alien got gassed, and it decided (correctly) Ripley probably had something to do with it and identified her as a possible threat.

#1 gets better if you know the whole story via the novelization. Galen basically trolled Krennic by being all "Hey, there's this problem with the Death Star where it'll overheat, so is it okay if we make a ventilation shaft" and kept bugging him about the specifics until Krennic got so annoyed that he went "Alright, do whatever will work. Just get it done. IDC anymore." Bureaucracy at its finest.

"The Martian" should be #1 for the very reason given: Basically Everything. Where the other movies mentioned made the list because of a single decision, Mark Watney had to make _multiple_ decisions throughout the movie to save is life. Essentially, the entire movie was one "smart decision" after another and for that reason deserves to be #1.

This is less a list about smart decisions, and more about solving problems. How do you get Luke Skywalker to rescue the Princess? You have to get him to her. How do you do that? A disguise. Don't get me wrong- this is brilliant writing. I don't know what's so great about some of these other mentions. They aren't smart decisions. It's logical to the narrative.

the genius of the Death Star plot was that the weakness was neither subtle nor secret. Galen straight up told them what could happen but by the time he brought up the downside to having a vent he'd annoyed everyone with so much red tape and bureaucracy that Krennick said "Oh my god just do it if it means I stop getting CC'ed on a hundred damn R&D emails a day!" It's fucking genius

In this film they had to make several smart decisions because they crew of the serenity always had been outnumbered and outgunned.

The empire: we created the most powerful weapon in the universe Also the empire: let's not review the weapon's schematics, recheck the plans, back up the data at off-site locations, have people examine the backed up data for vulnerabilities and fix them, or basically just have the rest of the imperial fleet surround the Death Star until the vulnerability is found or fixed or the rebels are destroyed.

The one thing I've never understood about 2001: A Space Odyssey is why the airlock door had a manual opener but the pod bay doors did not. Something happens that cuts power to the pod bay, say a rogue meteorite or something... Bowman and Poole would have to go through the airlock, open the pod bay doors from the inside, go back through the airlock, then pilot the pods back into the bay? That seems like a serious design oversight to me.

Back to the future should have been either number one or two. Back to the future was genius because if they hadn’t remembered the lightning storm, Marty would have been stuck in 1955. The stakes were high since if they missed it, they would have to wait aimlessly for another lightning storm to show up, but they wouldn’t even know where the lightning would strike for it to hit the De’Lorean. Also, if everything Mark Warner did was the best decision, shouldn’t he be number one?

I don't think Bowman's motives in 2001 were as described by this video. He was blown out of the pod because he had no means of depressurizing it other than, literally, blowing the door off. If he could have depressurized it he could have just lined up the doors, opened them and stepped from one vessel to the other. Either way, it worked.
