Speaking about Apu, I agree with Akaash Singh who said on Rogan: "This is the most 3 dimensional supporting character on the entire show. He evolves more than every character on the show. I loved Apu. Like every Indian person who came to America that I know, he was peaceful, kind, intelligent, hard working and loved his new country. If Apu is a stereotype then everyone in the Simpsons is.

"Do it for her" is one of my all time favorite moments. Not just the Simpsons, not just any TV show, but basically my life.

Mona dying always leaves me in floods of tears, especially since Homer regretted the last thing that he ever said to her before her untimely passing.

@Christopher Bingham "Bart The Murderer" was the first episode that gave you a window into skinners life outside of school. Sweet Seymore Skinners Baaadasss song was the next episode. That specific episode is going to inform people who do not like Principal and the Pauper. They don't want the Sweeeet Seymore skinners baaaadasss song to get retconned. Thats why they dont like it.

On the original broadcast for Mother Simpson, Matt Groening specifically requested that FOX affiliates play the end credits straight-through with no edits or breaks. They knew exactly how hard that moment was going to hit with the viewers.

Much to my mother's chagrin, I used to watch this show religiously. Then I showed her the episode "Mother Simpson" & she changed her mind for at least half an hour. Ironically, that episode is now 1 hard to rewatch since losing my mom last September.

I was shocked by three other events not listed: - The DEATH of “Fat Tony” - Sideshow Bob Marries Selma (then almost kills her) - The finding remains of Wayland Smithers SR in a water/acid hole.

the part that always kills me with "Mother Simpson" is Homer having that conversation with Marge "First of all, it wasn't 25 years, it was 27 years, and second she had a damn good reason." "Which was?" "I don't know, maybe I was just a horrible son and no mother would want me." "Oh that's not true" "Then why did she leave me?" Hearing Homer's voice break when he looks up at Marge and asks that question brings me to tears every time.

‘The Simpsons’ is still one of the greatest cartoon shows of all time.

I still remember Who Shot Mr. Burns from when I was a kid. Season finale. Had to wait all summer for it to come back. I pegged Maggie from the beginning but nobody ever believed me.

and Maggie Makes 3 had a huge impact on me when I watched it knowing that I was about to become a father. I was working a job I hated to provide for my family, but thinking about my son gave me perspective. I also wear a necklace with my son's name on it as a reminder of who I am working and living for.

#3, Frank Grimes is a case of a regular person going into the world of the Simpsons. Just like him, we probably wouldn’t survive with our sanity intact.

Loved Apu, he was the first cartoon character that looked & sounded like someone from my family. He evolved so thoroughly then he vanished, his family or anything remotely resembling. Now Hari Kandabalou is a total heel imo. He made a documentary about his voice, his voice was not Hank Azaria's fault... sure fox could re cast the voice. But now it's just sad. R.I.P. Apu

How can you only like Apu for his accent? How simple minded do you have to be? I always liked him because he’s kind of a naiv character who has a more distanced look into the American culture and he pointed out the interesting things and some dumber stuff going on and that really made him a highly appreciated character for me 😄

I liked that they took the stereotypes as a base, and gave him actual character growth on top of them. It's actually a good representation of learning about other races as a whole: The first time you see them (whether in a book, a show, real life, or anywhere else), the thing that stands out the most is the different skin colour. That's not racist, it's normal; it's the biggest and most visible difference between the race you just met, and the races you already know, and the human mind is instinctively drawn to things that stand out. (This is also the reason Westerners are famously bad at telling what country Asians are from at a glance, and vice versa.) Some people will just leave it at that, and get stuck on "their skin is a different colour"; that _is_ racist, the difference is just a single trait that's really no more important than, say, their hair or eye colour, and it's really dumb how much people have used it to justify a "they're _different_ " mentality. But for most people, as you get to know them, your subconscious tunes out the most visible differences and starts to pick up on the smaller things. And then you start to actually see who they really are, once you've trained your mind to look. And Apu's development mirrors that, in a surprisingly good representation of how people learn about different races. (To be fair, everyone also goes through this process for other members of their own race, and for the opposite gender, and for every _other_ "different", it's just that these ones typically happen when you're still a baby or a toddler, so they just get thrown in with all the _other_ unfamiliar things & people you're learning about. It only happens so late for different races because society as a whole isn't mixed, so people can easily go 10, 15, even 20 years before they meet their first new face from another race. And at that point, their mind usually doesn't have the hyper-elasticity it had as an infant, so it can take longer to process the new experience (assuming they even process it at all). The same phenomenon is also the reason your average English speaker won't be able to, e.g., hear the difference between certain Chinese words & phonemes, because they didn't hear them as an infant and as a result, their ears aren't used to discerning them. It's really impressive how _The Simpsons_ managed to model the subconscious, instinctive "internal normalisation" process (for lack of a better term) like that, IMO.)

The only people who complained about Apu forcing his removal were born long after the show aired and have zero right to complain about it. They never watched the evolution of the character as others in here have already said.

As speechless as I was over Frank Grimes’s death, Homer shouldn't have pushed him that far.

Sorry, but HOMER did NOTHING to Grimes. Everything that happened to Grimes was his own fault. We ALL know someone in our lives (at work or at school) who seem to get by doing the least amount of work or putting in the least effort and, yet, things go pretty okay for them. At the same time, almost none of the rest of us had the same kind of massive hard-luck life that Grimes lived so it's utterly pointless for us to resent those people to the point that we feel a need to get even with them. As an added note, Grimes actually got a big break because he was the subject of a TV show. And THAT was what helped land him the job at the nuclear plant--not all his "hard work."

Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! After watching 'Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One)' episode back in 1995, I wondered what the writers were thinking. The story was very dark, and unlike any other Simpsons episodes I have watched since 1990.

Some good choices. Grimes' death would be #1 for me...cause it's dark as hell and my biases cause it's my fave episode of the show still. I'd add some bits from the movie...such as Bart's you know what in his skateboard montage.

"Do it for her." I remember that to help me get through some hard times.

While it's true nobody really reflected on Apu exposing racial stereotypes, nobody only liked him for his funny accent, either. He was a genuinely beloved character for his upbeat attitude even when life struck him hard blows & for frequently being an unexpected voice of reason in the show.

Hari's a fool. I watched the doc when it came out and all he whined about was cause a white guy was doing the voice and the voice was stereotypical. Hari never really brought up these facts about Apu: He was one of the most eligible bachelors and attracted many of Springfield's women before he got married. He's a Ph.D holder in Comp Sci, owns his own business, and is extremely smart, knowing pi to 40K places. The positives outweigh the negative. Apu was one of the most fleshed out secondary characters in the show.

Me and some kids I sit with at lunch (I was in like middle school at the time) made silly bets on who would die. I remember thinking for a moment, and saying Maude. Everyone looked at me all weird like, "pshh like that's gonna happen." I saw the episode, realized I won the bet, and was still shocked at what happened

I have not seen the moments when Fox leaves Homer on a cliffhanger, the problem with Apu, when Homer undoes the apocalypse, when Homer does it for her, when Maude Flanders dies, or Armin Tamzarian. I recognized some of the characters, like Hank Hill from "King of the Hill" and Bender from "Futurama"! 1:38 - 2:01 This is a great video.

These moments are what makes And Maggie Makes Three, Mother Simpson and Who Shout Mr Burns top tier episodes. Apu, Maude and Edna deserve better though.

I sill love how one of the National tabloids wrote an article that Elizabeth Taylor would be voicing Maggie which at the time was a straight up lie until one of the producers heard about the article and thought it would be funny to actually have her voice Maggie.

It was accidental. While Burns fought over Maggie's lollipop, the gun in his shoulder holster slipped out, landed in Maggie's hands and discharged before landing under the car seat where it was found

2:48 I didn't see this episode when was new Although I've seen a lot of episodes in the '90s when they were new but sometime later I forget when I did see this episode maybe was on a DVD or just on rerun I'm not sure, but even though I had seen well beyond season 2 up to that point it's still actually got me teary-eyed when Marge reacted to seeing home were just slouched out on the couch like as if he died. But it was so beautiful seeing that it turned out homework actually lived. Classic Simpsons just does it right it was such a well done scene.

How no one was defending Apu? It was not only his accent! It was his wedding, Adventures with Homer (Kwik E Mart central, Besharps), cultural influence, convinient store jokes. I missed the ending of "Homer's Last Day" the first time it aired. I wasn't going to be home, so I set my VCR to tape it. But I guess my clock was slightly off, because it cut off right after Homer slumped over in his chair. And I was left wondering, did they kill him off?

What he said about Apu is dumb. We don’t watch the simpsons to over analyze a characters like a Harvard student. I loved Apu not because his accent because he was a smart and wholesome character. The simpsons are a white American middle class stereo type.

I didn't care that Skinner was an imposter but, that the real Seymour Skinner was instantly made principal despite noit being qualified.

Bart's affirmation at 1:57 that he's saving the network not for the first time is basically part of his joke. Hence his choice of words. He doesn't say "this isn't the first time." He's pretty much admitting that the average 10-year-old doesn't have access to $10,000.
