Lot of performer and production team should at least be nominated for an Oscar. They always been overlooked because the movie released in summer and Oscar often snubs fantasy movie. Costume and special fx should have at least one nomination out of those 8 movie. Whoever played umbridge deserve a nomination cause she played the role perfectly and everyone hate her. Helena Bonham-Carter Bellatrix especially in DH pt 1 when she have to impersonate Emma Watson Hermione impersonate Bellatrix. That's insane. Or Ralph Fiennes especially in DH pt 2. Gary Oldman also done stellar job as Sirius in POA. Emma Watson also portray Hermione perfectly ever since the first movie like she never acting the whole time. Like Hermione was her natural personality. Tom Felton also does incredible job especially in HBP. Of Course the best of them all is Alan Rickman

While I agree with the former part of your statement, I disagree with the latter half. Snape, by far, is one of the most complicated, developed characters in the series, he is not one of the best characters. He's not someone who should be emulated in any form.

RIP Alan, one of the best actor this world has ever produced. What I love about the scene in the Shrieking Shack is how, after you've finished the books, it puts a whole new light on it. Snape wasn't just facing down a man he loathed at school, he wanted revenge on the man he thought was responsible for Lily's death.

No he wasn't facing down a man he wanted revenge on(cause he never wanted to do so), cause he never hated Harry for any of his misdeed, can't you see he just wanted to give his all love, care and support to harry as his own child but was unable to do so.. cause harry was having his dad's face a person who troubled him all his school time and above all, took the only happiness snape was ever wanted to have i.e. lily.... All the time in each part of the movie Snape always cared, protected and guided Harry as a father indirectly as he was unable to show his love independently..but at the and when he was about to die there was no pressure on him to do so i might just imagine that at that time his only wish would be to shower his love on harry as more as he can, to tell him everything happened to him, reasons behind his all good and bad deeds, and hug him as his son as his love's only memory to him.

Yogeshwari, I don't know if you will get this, six months later. You have completely missed the point. In the Shrieking Shack, Snape is NOT facing down Harry. The person who he IS facing down is Sirius Black. He believes that Sirius Black was responsible for the death of Lily. At that moment, we believe that he hates Sirius Black because Sirius teased him at School, so he is happy to arrest Sirius. What we DO NOT KNOW at that moment, is that he LOVED Lily. So when he catches Sirius Black, he feels a deep sense of personal revenge that is far more important than catching someone who teased him.

Another great moment is that Harry names his son after him

There is no one like Alan Rickman. He played this role to perfection and while the rest of us didn't know the motivation for Snape's actions, Alan did and he kept it close but looking back at his performances now, you can see the layers to his portrayal of Snape. 💖~ALWAYS~ 💑

Snape has been my favourite since I was or 10 years old. I remember shivering when I heard him say "Turn to page three hundred and ninety four." As I've grown older, he's only gotten more of my love for him.

“Hey, who’s that man talking to Professor Quirell?” years later “He’s the bravest man I’ve ever known.”

First saw Alan Rickman in *Die Hard* as Hans Gruber. Snape didn't get Lily, but as Colonel Brandon in *Sense and Sensibility* he DID get Marianne. 👍

Ever since I saw that movie 23 years ago, I've wanted someone to look at me the way Brandon looks at Marianne. Sadly, I'm still waiting, but I did fall a bit in love with Alan Rickman as a result. His death was a blow, for all of the many diverse characters he's played. Whether he was playing a good guy or a bad guy, I loved him all the same. Always.

His memories were one of the best parts of the last book. And his general sass was legendary. Obviously...

with his encounter with sirius and remus, you forgot how snape also still thought that sirius was lily’s secret keeper and the man who ratted them out to voldemort. this was more than school grudges, he still thought that sirius was the reason the love of his life was killed

What a quandary. Hates James, loves Lily. But in the end, it’s his love for Lily that wins, even though for his whole life it must have KILLED him it wasn’t his and Lily’s baby. So sad. Now that’s nobility in the truest sense. I’d be torn too, frankly. But I am oh so glad Harry got to see it.

Sorry, but just because Snape loved Lily, it doesn't mean he was entitled to her. Lily's feelings count too, not just Snape's and she fell for James (and James and Lily had a right to be happy together). James didn't steal Lily from Snape. Snape lost her because of his growing association with wannabe Death Eaters and Lily only married James after he grew out of his bullying ways.

Alright, Lily also has agency, and your entire statement essentially implied she couldn't choose for herself who she wanted to marry and start a family with. Snape made his choices and one of those was to push the one person who was there for him away, and then get possessive about her whenever James is mentioned. At least, James had the good sense to grow up and change, whereas if Snape truly wanted Lily, he would've left behind his dark associations to deserve her.

10 years later and Always scene still has me in tears. Literally the most heartbreaking twist to ever come from that series.

The ironic thing about the first potions class is, from the notes he was taking down, it's not only clear Harry WAS paying attention, but his relationship with Snape could've gone way better, since he was clearly eager for the class at first, hence taking notes so quickly. Had Snape not jumped to conclusions based on his feelings towards James, things might've been very different between the potions master and the boy who lived

For number 10 with the Quidditch match, I always loved how when you go back and watch the scene you can very easily see Quirrell muttering an incantation as well but Ron and Hermione just don't notice. It would have been very easy to leave that out.

My favourite moments are everytime he antagonises Lupin about being a werewolf in 3, the threatening Harry with Veretaserum in 4 and in number 6 when Harry asks him a question and he just walks off

While he may have started out as an anti-hero and antagonist to the Golden Trio, he was ultimately redeemed by his love for Lily, with his sacrifice for Harry mirroring her own from years before. My favorite moment from the Harry Potter series about Snape is in the third film. After Lupin turns into a werewolf and he finds the three standing in fright and about to chastise them for knocking him unconscious but as soon as he heard Lupins growl - he turns and guards them by standing in front of the turned Lupin. That has and will always continue to be my favorite moment of Snape. It shows that even though he may have been a (rightful) hard ass to Harry and Griffyndor - he also had a side that was willing to protect his students. Even the ones he didn't like :)

This is why I should read all the comments before I post - I just wrote almost exactly the same thing as a response to another comment! And yes, Snape's instinct to protect the children speaks volumes about the kind of man he really was.

I loved the scene where Harry and Ron were discussing the dance. Snape pushes their heads. Then the final straw, he straightened his sleeves and gave a final shove. Loved it! I did this to my boys once, they were arguing and wouldn't stop side snarling.

Snape was just really misunderstood a good guy with a solemn demeanour but he’s not as bad as everyone seems to think

I lost my mother and Snape on the same day. Both my parents are dead and i,m an orphan just lie Harry. When Snape says always I always cry. I,ve taken the sorting hat quiz many times, and i get Slyherin evey time. Go Slytherin!

I still cry every time I see the scene with snapes memories.

You can not say it often enough: There was no real alternative to Alan Rickman in the cast of Snape. He is (or was) the only one I can think of who could play such cold and calculating characters, but could also portray fragile souls with the same conviction. His performance in the movies was insane. And we can all be grateful for sharing his incredible skills with us.

I just realized something I was consistently missing. That "noisy students" moment. Snape actually took his time to roll up his sleeves before assaulting Potter and Weasley! That's hilarious! :D Also, while I'm here... "Snape, what's happening? Snape? SNAAAAAAAAAPE!!!"

Dumbledore wanting Snape to be the one to kill him and not Draco is much more deeper than him trying to save him from having to deal with being a murderer and more about saving Draco from being killed by Voldemort. Dumbledore knew sooner or later that Voldemort would find out that he himself is the master of the elder wand and try to gain control by killing the person who murdered Dumbledore, hence why he killed Snape. However, you only need to disarm the individual who holds the elder wand for it to change allegiance. Dumbledore allowed Draco to easily disarm him and then responded "Very good" twice. From then on Draco was the master of the elder wand but due to the tale, Voldemort thought it belonged to Snape as he killed Dumbledore. Then Harry disarmed Draco which is why he was the master at the end of the last book. Overall, both Dumbledore and Snape knew that Voldemort had to believe it was Snape who killed him and earned the trust of elder wand.

When I was in the process of adopting a cat, I found a cat who was a Grumpy-Cat-lookalike, but who had the sweetest personality. I thought that the name Severus, or Sev for short, was the perfect name for him. I ended up adopting a much sweeter female cat, who is a snuggler but also is sassy. The name I chose for her? Lily.

I love how Snape's relationship with Harry's parents demonstrates some of his best and worst traits, particularly in how he never seems to let anything go. He refuses to let go of his hatred of James and constantly takes it out on Harry even when he should on all accounts be trying to teach the boy instead of bullying him. At the same time, he can't forget the love he has for Lily or the guilt for his role in her death, causing him to do his best to keep Harry alive and help him defeat Voldemort.

ishaq yousuf Yea. James was pretty horrid, I wouldn’t have picked him. I have always despised bullies, and stuck up for people when were picked on, way back before it was cool. ( because it’s always been the right thing to do). It’s so complex.🤯. And painful. But that’s how life works.

Yes, that's why I've always felt that in many ways, Snape had kind of a bit of trouble protecting Harry (who looked just like his father with the exception of his eyes, which he got from his mother), because every time Snape looked at Harry he saw the eyes of probably the only other person he ever truly loved, staring back at him from the face of the man he lost her to.

@@lzad3764 James was a stupid kid. It's not as if Snape didn't retaliate. Let's also add that he was working on some dark spells while he attended Hogwarts and sectumsempra had 'for enemies' written next to it for a reason. Snape was a bully himself, so then shouldn't you despise him? He was picking on children before Harry attended school and it only got worse when Harry ended up in his class. His hatred of James doesn't justify his treatment of Harry. It's fairly telling if your student's boggart turns into you.

Jameelia Moonrise well I don’t agree. A teenager is NOT a kid. 🤷‍♀️. And james was in a PACK. As far as I see, Snapes was on his own. Just sayin. And plus, who wouldn’t retaliate, in some form if you COULD? I mean being picked on is living hell.

He`s just the best. Snape or Richman, theyre both the greatest.

Snape just makes me sad. I always end up thinking about what could have been if he had learned to let go. He had potential to be a truly good person, but he spent way too much time clinging to the past and letting it affect his future. His childhood bullies grew up and learned to be better people. The woman he loved grew up and found someone of her own. But he kept trying to cling to everything that he'd lost. Tormenting Gryffindor students because they just happened to be in the same house as the kids that bullied him, borderline stalking Lily even after she was married, and outing Lupin as a werewolf to get him fired over an old grudge. If he'd just learned to move forward instead of always looking back, he could've turned out a much better person, instead of a petty, spiteful bully with a few somewhat good qualities.

Your comment is everything. I've been saying this for years. Snape chose his own path and kept dwelling on the past, which was already gone. He could've lived a much fuller life instead he focused on things he couldn't change. It wasn't just Gryffindor students he was terrible to. He favored the kids in his house, but I think he was particularly vindictive to the Gryffindors. I mean he left school in 1977 and was still holding onto this grudge even after James was dead. Snape is the example of someone wallowing in regret and misery for their whole life.

Word. He's like the Mr Freeze of the magical world. Holding on to the idea of a loved one he cannot bring back, and in so doing spreading negativity on others.
