My grandfather took the 1980s McDonald's pumpkin trick or treat pail I had back when I was a kid, put a hole in the back, and wired it up to serve as an actual jack-o-lantern. He's long-gone now, but I still use that jack-o-lantern he made out of it.

I love how simple my childhood was. Boys played house with the girls and the girls would play trucks with the boys. We didn't care who played with what when we were just having fun. Things feel complicated now or something lol

I liked the Halloween buckets. Reading various comments, I’m guessing most of us knew that the buckets were the “toy” itself. It was a traditional Happy Meal toy for awhile. We still have a mid-90s blue watering can and while small, it can water smaller plants.

Same. My own child uses one of the holloween buckets every Holloween. I ended up with collecting a few of them. I ended up using others to hold the candy for trick or treaters.

I absolutely LOVED those buckets when I was a kid. Heck, I remember being disappointed one year when they had normal toys (still Halloween themed) instead of the buckets.

WHAT?! I loved the Halloween buckets! My favorite was the ghost because it was glow-in-the-dark. I kept mine it until my teens when it broke. ☹️

You listed one of their actually MOST popular toys as your first item, though! The buckets were really cool. Even as a kid, especially if you loved Halloween, it was so cool just to get something so BIG, and they were very useful! Don't underestimate how creative an resourceful we were, as kids!

But of course, my parents thought the buckets we're useless, so they forced me to throw them out. I don't know what happened to the stickers... Plus, I liked the buckets because they were Halloween. It's my favorite holiday and I'm attracted to anything Halloween. (I grew up watching horror movies.)

Those buckets were legit! My family still has them in the bin where we keep all our Halloween costumes and decorations. One of the most legendary happy meals.

The only sad thing is that McDonaldland characters are dead, I miss them 😢

I realize it’s been said a lot, so apologies in advance but…I loved the buckets 😂 As someone also mentioned already, they were just too dang small to get a lot of candy. I learned this one year using the ‘glow in the dark’ ghost one (which was like, the third or fourth time the buckets were available.) dad was not too happy that we had to walk all the way home, empty it, and then go back out again so I could get more candy.😂 I wouldn’t trade that memory for the world though ❤

I loved the gardening tools! Of course that’s when I thought it was fun helping my mom in the garden instead of a seeing it as a chore

I remember that rediculous plastic Ronald "puppet". I thought it was supposed to be a bag to put your trash in and they forgotten to add the toy

I trick or treated with either the ghost or pumpkin bucket as a kid. It was much better than a tiny, breakable toy. The greenhouse was pretty cool too. Both outlived the fun provided by a toy.

Kids didn't care if the toys were "sad"or not, they just liked the idea of something inside the Happy Meal they could play with. When I worked there, one Happy Meal had Little Golden Books, I remember one being The Poky Little Puppy. Kids loved them.

My sister went to McDonald’s to get a Step-It, but when she got there she found out you couldn’t get them anymore, she was sad and it broke my heart

I had the tiny bird feeder. It was too small for the bigger birds but the chickadees loved it, and I loved having them outside my window. I got more enjoyment out of that thing than any other fast food toy. Glad I got that and not the crappy shovel! lol

The saddest Happy Meal toy is the glove puppet!!

I think it's a pretty clever concept for McDonald's to put out healthy themed products as toys. Though they may be flops, the irony could be seen as a way to increase sales. To add, some parents could see it as, "Ok, well my kid is gonna eat, possibly with a super sweet dessert, then play with this ball or whatever and be tired from the exercise. That'll make it easier for me to put them to bed for school/church/etc." Which would also increase sales. So I think I can see where the marketing team came up with those ideas. They might not have worked, but the concept seems pretty clever.

The problem with the Halloween pale was that it was too dam small, you could barely git any candy in it

I know, this isn't the subject, but, do you remember that terrifying meal box they came out with a few years ago? it had realistic eyes and mouth. AAAAHHH !!!

Normally whenever I went to mcdonalds I asked for the boy toy (even though I'm a girl). When I did I never wanted the cashier to see me as a girl so I would sit in the back of my mom's car and hide. I was a very smart child.

Getting a McDonalds halloween pail used to be my favorite to get every year

My cat actually loves the emoji plushes and carries them around and gives them to us and softly mewing like she wants us to eat them😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

When I was a kid I remember absolutely loving those Halloween lunch pails

0:40 I love the pails. I still trick or treat as an adult and the pails come in fun designs. Based on the fact that there’s a Minions pail you can tell that McDonald’s still likes doing this stuff. Seeing Halloween costumes and accessories on store shelves always gets me stoked for that very date!
