The fact they play notes from "Requiem" after Godzilla rises again just after Serizawa's sacrifice was such a beautiful touch in Godzilla KOTM. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah is EASILY the saddest Godzilla movie. 1 of only a small handful of movies that have made me cry more than once.

The saddest part of my life is when the man who first acted as Godzilla, Haruo Nakajima past away. This was a very sad moment for me in my life but we will always have massive respect for Haruo Nakajima.

They clearly either didn't grow up with Godzilla or they're trying to over-complicate things. Not everything needs to be "complex", "re-imagined", "deep", etc. It's the same mistakes they made with Pacific Rim. Sometimes being simpler and a lot of spectacle just works. Godzilla may have had metaphors, but in actuality, only a few movies were that "deep" about it (like the first "Gojira" film).

This scene makes me cry every single time. This mother and her children did nothing wrong. What's even sadder is that the mother accepts their fate. They didn't deserve to die. It is impossible to not see the resemblance between this mother and her children and the millions of civilians obliterated by the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 😭😭😭

Despite watch mojo not being a favourite of mine the critics are just doing their job for money because the audience liked the film and the critics watch it 100 times to find parts of mothra's wings with slightly lower textures and use that to reduce it by 10 percent.

I like how the death of Titonsaurus is given an honourable mention as everyone is literally cheering with happiness over it! Actually, the saddest moment for me was the death of Mothra in 1964's Godzilla vs the thing. I saw it in a retro theater in the early 80s with some friends, and my best female friend was crying when that happened. I too had something in my eye then

Did Shin Godzilla actually die? I saw the subbed version of the movie, and it seemed like he was still alive. Just that he was petrified until that chemical fed to him wears off. Edit: if the subtitles were accurate that is.

Godzilla vs Destroyahs ending traumatized my child hood. I first watched it when I was. 4 and cried so hard. I avoided Godzilla media got an entire year and even when I got back into Godzilla media I rarely watched anything and would scroll thorough Godzilla videos first before watching them to make sure there was no involvement of Godzilla’s meltdown in them. I got over it when I was 11 though it still disturbs me.

You left out Rodan’s sacrifice to help Godzilla defeat Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Rodan became a surrogate brother to baby Godzilla

Probably because he didn't really die there? Also, that was the first time with that Godzilla, so there was little to connect with it, compared to it's Destroyah death which not only spends most of the movie preparing the audience for the death, but also ties it to everything else that happened in the Heisei series, including its role as a parent.

7:55 that is hands down the saddest movie scene ever. Every time I watch that part, It brings me to tears. It really hits hard! 😭😭😭

10:39 saddest death I have ever seen

I remember being 10 years old, it was my birthday and for my birthday I got Godzilla vs Destoroyah on DVD, words don't describe how unprepared I was to see Godzilla meltdown at the end, I bawled my eyes out. Such a beautiful scene. Many people write these movies off as dumb monster films but if you actually sit down and watch them, you can see the heart and soul put into them. I also strongly believe Serizawa's sacrifice from King of the Monsters should have been on the list, that scene got me so hard.

I knew that this was #1 and this scene still hurts :(

Number 1 for me is number 6 on this list Godzilla 1985 as it's known here in the states still makes me tearful to this day just the look on his face as he's standing on the edge of the volcano like he knows what's happening and his cry as he falls in along with the way the mayor's tears streaming down his face and Richard monologue it always gets to me

I was a little surprised they mentioned the monologue from the ending, but not the scream as he's falling in. That part places it at #2 for me. At first I figured its position at #6 was because they watched the japanese version, which didn't have the scream, but they mentioned the monologue, so IDK why they'd leave that out.

No no, not you, I meant the video. I did read that you mentioned it, but I was surprised WatchMojo didn't.

They show Godzilla Jr. at the end of the movie. While the ending of Godzilla vs Destroyah was intended to signify the ending of the OG Godzilla, it was intended to be Godzilla passing the torch to Godzilla Jr. (one of Godzilla's last acts was to revive Godzilla Jr. after Destroyah killed him). Then a reboot happened that scuttled that plan.

Thank you for acknowledging that Titanosaurus was a victim and his death is a tragedy.

I bawled my eyes and cried my heart out when I first saw Godzilla vs Destoroyah on TV years ago. That is my #1.

For me, I cried so much when *Destroyah* dropped *Junior Godzilla.* And extra emphasis was added by *Miki Saegusa's* character who was devastated by *Junior's* torment. To this day, that scene still brings tears to my eyes.

4:15 Godzilla is like I'm so done with this crap.

I think the saddest moment in all of Goji's movies is when he walks up to his dead son, and lets out a roar of not rage, not power, but actual mourning.

Burning Godzilla got me... But the ending was unforgettable

But the end of Godzilla vs Destroyah had Junior coming back to life, as his body absorbed all the excess radiation released by Senior's meltdown. Still a tearjerker ending, though.

Especially when you consider that the adult Junior's roar may have been him trying to call out for his dad.

Rodan's sacrifice on Godzilla should be on the list. That moment brought tears to my eyes

Going into the volcano in 84 is number 1 for me. Mostly cause I grew up watching that movie thinking he died. I had no idea there was a whole series of films I missed in the 90's til I was an adult.

Yea that one as a kid felt like the end and was quite sad. The scream also was heartbreaking.

Won't lie, when I saw Godzilla vs Destoroyah for the first time, I bawled like a baby when Godzilla died thinking it was truly the final end of my childhood hero.

That girl in the hospital thought she was safe until Godzilla said sike

I love how baby Godzilla tries to stay with them by biting on to their clothes

As initially tragic as it was to see Jr. get dropped by Destoroyah, the real tears start flowing when Miki starts bawling her eyes out & then even more so when Godzilla tries to bring him back to life but fails.

Wait, even Godzilla has sad moments? Well damn, now I’ve seen everything!

Xiaomu Smash 14 There are more sad moment then the one on this list. The death if the original mortha in the showa era and fire Rodan giving his life energy so Godzilla can be renuinted whit his son. This list is awful.

The saddest Godzilla moment for me was when he fell down the volcano in Godzilla '85! If I was to watch that moment now as a grown man, I'd still cry😢!

The whole ass tragedy of Shin’s painful existence needs put on this list.

*Anytime Shin Godzilla is onscreen it should be on the list*

Shin godzilla was one of the best installments. Godzilla in that movie was a tragedy tho. It laid complete destruction to Japan and u could even see its pain in its eyes

Godzilla King of the monsters was a great movie the critics are full of it

I don't know about that one, but Dr. Sirizawa's sacrifice to kill Godzilla or the part where the mother talked about meeting her husband in the afterlife was too powerful for me.

Amazing as Godzilla is in his destructiveness and his battles with other monsters, it's really these moments that solidified me as a long time fan since childhood.
