Once you’ve had an Old English Sheepdog, you never get over them. ❤❤❤

Yes I totally agree 😊
Mine is the best! We love her as much as we loved our male OES, who lived with us 13 years.
Absolutely! I’ve had 4 of them and they are THE BEST. Totally devoted to the family, smart, easy-going, sweet, fun-loving, hilarious, easy to maintain. Wouldn’t have any other breed.
Thanks for trying to save the breed. It saddens me to know old breeds are going obsolete. Give Molly a big ole' hug from Ms Stacy Jo please 😊

haha yeah I'll keep promoting sheepdogs.
I've had 3 Sheepies. Every one had the same traits you describe. Love the breed. They're big babies, even at 10. Quietly protective? Oh yea. Big snake was slithering through the yard when kids and Baby were outside playing. Baby snatched up that snake and shook it to death. Many other stories to tell!

That's awesome Tom, I hope someday I can have more. I feel like I'll never own another breed again. Maybe even breed these OES too on our farm someday. Molly is pretty much the star of my channel too lol as we setup this farm stay. She is an amazing dog though. Great motherly instincts too even to the other animals on the farm. Thanks for watching.
i've wanted an oes for over 10 years now, (i'm now 18) and this video finally convinced my parents to let me have one (: getting my pup in a few day

Wow u must be super excited. Molly wined fir two nites when I first got her. I crate trained her and then graduated to door bells. Now she rings the bells whenever she wants to go out but most of the time she’s outside anyways. Best dog I ever had they are so playful, smart, cute and they gave the best personality. You’ll see soon enough, stick with the training though they like to nip you gotta keep saying “no”. Once they know the word “no” it’s easy. They might nip cause they have instincts to herd sheep, Molly used to walk in front of me to guide me to go left or right as if I was a sheep. Enjoy your pup Damien, it’ll be the best companion you’ve ever had. Chad.
my first OES died yesterday, I feel broken, I lived with him for 14y. Best dog, EVER. my best memories are with him, I never want a different breed, OES are the best dogs in every aspect.

I feel for u. I'm so sorry. I dread that day. Molly is only 2, but you're right I have so many great memories with her already as we build our farm. Now we have Olive too and the two of them make me smile throughout everyday. I too never want another breed. Much respect and joy for you enjoying those 14 years with him. My heart goes out to you and your family.

@@HiddenSpringFarm thank you very much for the kind words, its been really hard, seeing your videos with molly is very soothing for me, I'll be looking forward to more videos with molly
I had a Bobtail-girl named Sally years ago - and one thing is for sure: This girl was more intelligent than 99% of the humans I know.
My family and I just love Old English Sheepdogs. We were privileged to have had Monty a big gentle giant with a very big heart and the sweetest and most loving disposition for 14 years in our life. When Monty went to the Rainbow Bridge (my wife in particular misses Monty and we think of him very often), we were fortunate enough to import Rosie, an OES from Queensland. Rosie has just turned 11 last month and she's still such a baby. Sweet, playful, and always ready for an affectionate rumble with her human family members.

such a great story. OES sure do have an incredible impact on our lives. Our two dogs are still pretty young so lots of fun times yet, but that'll be a tough time for sure when they reach that age...14 was a good age for Monty, he lived a great life for sure. Did you catch today's episode? it's a beginners guide to OES starring our girls Molly & Olive.
I love them. I’m grieving the loss of mine this week. I will get another one when I am ready. Mine loved everyone and had 7 cats and 2 Westies to hang out with. The best dogs.
I rescued my Old English Sheepdog and it was the best thing I've ever done! She is the sweetest, most protective and most loyal dog, she gets along with the neighborhood dogs, the cats outside and people - she's always by my side and I just love her to pieces!!! She is quite protective though and she guards me, I think it's so sweet! My girl barks loudly - when she's excited her bark is piercing to the ears! If you're on the fence about getting this dog, you won't be sorry, they are the best companions! They won't let you down! I love how much you love your Molly!!

Amazing story and thanks for taking her in to your home. Molly has some protective instincts too but I think if push comes to shove she would cower. Olive, our new pup that was given to us by a viewer has lots of killer instinct...she barks at everything. Any little noise and she's up barking for a bit...Molly just stands beside her lol.

@@HiddenSpringFarm Aww, Molly and Olive are going to be best friends! My dog was abused and terribly neglected, she was so matted had to be shaved down completely, it was a heartbreaking situation. We rescued her and another dog (same situation) and I think because she has so much deep love given to her, she finds the need to protect that. She is so special to me and I don't know what I'd do without my big baby girl. Thanks for your reply!

Hahaha Same here I do chase my OES when we play a ball but it’s not easy for OES to live in the place urbanized. Herding instinct is not easy to fix 😪 so I believe your Molly should be the happiest one with your great farm land

They have such personalities these dogs eh Jenny. Molly really does love the farm. When she's in the house you can see a difference in her. Once free she is the farm boss.
Yep - you are spot on. Had old english sheepdogs most my life (5). We have 6 month old who is awesome. One thing I would add when getting an EOS - the breeder counts. Two generations of sheepdogs ago, we bought a pup Sir Sebastian Winchester. By the time he was two, he had dysplasia. Make sure you get a pup from a breeder that has the pups health certified hops and eyes. That will make a difference - I never want to see any OES go thru what Winston had to deal with. Our OES before Rocky - the new guy - was 17 when she past away. For an OES, that is like a miracle. Happy Trails.
@HiddenSpringFarm

wow 17 is a really well aged OES. You're right on about the breeder, you want a pup thats been bred from good healthy lineage. Rocky must be a joy for sure. Really appreciate you watching. I hope to have generations of OES just like you one day. Cheers, Chad.

thanks for sharing Carla, sorry to hear about Maggie May. That's not a day I'm looking forward to with my Molly. It'll be tough. Her full name is Molly May. We also have 6 barn cats one is named Maggie May too. OES are just such an amazing breed, even needing a bit more than hair maintenance than most breeds but they more than make up for it with all their other traits like their personality and sweet nature. I hope to one day breed them as they are in decline...maybe I can help keep their numbers up. I've done so many episode that somehow involves Molly as she's the star of the farm.lol. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and to comment. Cheers, Chad.

You are such a sweet guy!! And your love for Molly is very evident! This video made me cry. When I was very young, I was afraid of dogs and it was a family friend’s OES named Shelly that helped me see that dogs weren’t scary. As big as she was (and I was very little for my young age) she made me feel safe and special. It’s like she knew I was afraid. She was the most gentle, sweet, playful creature I had ever encountered. It’s been 45 years and I’ve never forgotten what she did for me. 🐾🖤🐾

the brush he’s using here would be more used for huskies and german shepards to get out that undercoat. for an old english sheepdog, you’d use a slicker brush and a dematting rake depending on if they’re matted or not. no disrespect i just don’t want our doggies in pain while we brush them! fantastic video!

I love your enthusiasm - I am now definitely considering an OES! Almost every step of the way (except for the hair thing) you could have been talking about my last dog ... a Lab x New Zealand Beardie Huntaway, who was a pure 'whoops' litter pup that I had the honour to have pick of the litter from when I lived out in NZ. Back in the UK now since 2005 and my girl died at the good age of 15 1/4 just over 4 years ago ... still miss her like crazy. Definitely a clown who made me laugh every single day; she loved everyone and everything.

Does she truely not shed? We are starting our research and my husband has allergies. Our previous dog was a Barbet and he had no issues. We read contradicting things about OES.. some say they shed and others say they don’t. I know in your video you said no shed.
@HiddenSpringFarm
2 жыл бұрын
@@SKPaquette77 Molly is 19 months old now and from my experience she absolutely does not shed. But you will find hair that has fallen out on its own and when brushed. This breed has an inner coat and an outer coat all year round not like dogs with fur where they grow a winter coat and shed it out in spring.I too have allergies when I'm around a Labrador or other shedding dog, but no issues with Molly. The hair needs a lot of maintenance though so keep that in mind. I've come to the conclusion that Molly will be going to a pro groomer every 8 weeks because I think I don't do a good enough job of dematting. A lot of the videos on youtube are just a guy talking some points they got from wikipedia without ever seeing their face and they have never owned an OES. My points are from my experience with Molly. Hope things are going well with your new baby. My son grew up around sheepies, and he used to get really aggravated when they'd try to herd him everywhere. I thought it was funny. And besides, it's in their DNA. But do be careful with a toddler, as the dog outweighs them considerably. THEY MEAN NO HARM!

Ok You might not like this, but maybe you will? We got a 2 1/2 Year old Sheep a Doodle as a rescue. The people that had him had smaller kids. He never ever tried to hurt the kids, just as toddlers and him being still mostly puppy, he was so playfull he would knock em down all the time. The people decided he had to go. Get this, this was after they told us at 1 1/2 years old he saved thier family from a house fire. How on earth do you get rid of a dog that saved your family? Oh well. He has every trait you described in this vidio. I have never been a big dog person, but this dog is more like having a really good friend to pal around with all day then just a dog. Whats really cool about it, its a friend that does anything he can do to make you laugh all day long! Thanks for making this video, I know know, even though he is a sheep a doodle he has the traits of a OES, he actually even looks like a OES just maybe not as big, He is 62 lbs a fur and fluff, By far best dog I have ever owned, by far! Name is Cash

This is a wonderful story Michael, thnx for sharing. Pretty unbelievable that a young hero dog can be forgotten so easily, but to each their own I guess. You guys got an amazing friend out of it and I'm sure will give Cash a much more fulfilling life. With a little training and maturity the dog would have learned to be gentle as most OES are and sounds like the doodles have much if not all of the same traits. Good on you for bringing Cash into your family, thnx for that. Chad.
I live in Australia and would love to get an English sheepdog when I move back to the bush next year. I didn't know they were endangered. I've always loved their personalities, very eccentric, smart, friendly and funny, just like many people in England. :D

@@HiddenSpringFarm Yes they are great breed many are in many peoples eyes. I had a beagle growing up and she was the sweetest thing ever but boy did she bark a lot, especially when she saw a stranger. But I love all dog breeds and animals. One reason I chose to be one of my top three is they are good with other animals and I have two pets already and I am going to introduce him or her to them and show the puppy that these little critters of mine it's supposed to help protect.

@@hannahmccoy4304 OES are amazing with other animals and Molly hardly barks ever. She thinks she is the mother to the barn cats always licking them and cuddling with them to keep them warm. Of course you need to train from a young age, but they have a sweet natured instinct.
I agree with you to 100%!!! I am a German OES breeder and just had our 2nd litter with 9 puppies. This is incredible fun. However, I find it a bit sad that the dogs are still cropped in your country. They have such a beautiful tail. In most European countries this is now forbidden.

thats amazing, 9 pups. That would be so cool to have a bunch of cute little pups running around. Yes here in Ontario, Canada where we are the breed standard for the OES is to have a docked tail. I know several other areas of the world this practice has stopped, but I'm not sure why not here yet. I'd love our Molly either way though. Molly is the best dog I've ever had in my life by far. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. Have a great day, Chad.

@@HiddenSpringFarm Yes, ot is really amazing, but much work. You can't imagine how much the little ones shit. By the way, in Germany we usually call the OES "Bobtail". In England, by the way, the tails were docked, because a dog without a tail was not considered a dog there in the past and therefore no taxes had to be paid for them. Without a tail they were immediately recognizable as working animals. This has nothing to do with any advantages in combat. To be able to bite the tail the OES would have to run away, which he would never do. He defends his horde until the end.

Great video, and I cannot agree more on most of what you said. My mother bred OESDs when I was a child. I told myself when I was an adult, I would have my own. And I did. I went on to have 5 of them. I also became a profession dog groomer. Your depiction of the breed needing a brush out every now and then is not very accurate. I do see that Molly has a trimmed coat (also appears young as her coat is still dark. I know some maintain the darker coats) and I totally support keeping them with a reduced coat, about an 1" all over. But most people here (Miami, FL) want full coated pets but no one wants to brush them out. They DO require frequent grooming if you want all the fluff. But spot on with the rest of the descriptions. I just had to put down my 12 yr old girl. I still have my 9 yr old sheepie, poor girl is dumb as a box of rocks but we love her so!
Had a Great Pyrenees. Now I have a small dog . I love my girl. But she is high maintenance. Molly is terrific

Evelyn Rogers well I can tell you honestly it would be a great decision. Their personality is their best feature plus they’re so cute. And people say they need a lot of brushing but I didn’t even brush her until she was 9 months old cause the hair wasn’t that long yet. But they don’t need more brushing than any other long haired dog. Molly does get matted if I don’t brush it out though. I hope you get an OES Evelyn they are an amazing breed with fewer health issues too than a lot of other dog breeds.

I love watching your videos on Molly! I have an OES named Belle. She's 11 years old. We actually got her when she was 3 years old from a rescue. She's been the best dog I've ever had. She's so sweet, calm, loving, snuggly...she's been so gentle and wonderful with my two young sons. We adopted a 7 year old cat and she never chased the cat, was only curious about him and wanted to sniff and lick him. They sleep together on her dog bed now. Because I miraculously got her from a rescue (who specialized in blood hounds no less!) I've never researched the best breeders to get an OES from. I would love to know where you got Molly from. Someday, when Belle is no longer with us, I know we will want to get an OES puppy from a breeder...it's pretty hard to find OES's at a rescue.

Jessi that's so awesome the dog and cat get along, love that they sleep together. Molly's pretty friendly with the kittens too, I'm actually working on an episode about the three of them. Belle is a nice name. I'm like you, I'll probably never own another breed. OES are just so lovable. I'm close to Orillia, Ontario and we got Molly from a breeder in south west Ontario...super long waiting list, but we got lucky cause most in the queue wanted males and I wanted a female so we got Molly within 4 months. Not very many OES breeders around though. I feel like I could be a breeder someday, but there's just so much to learn and I'm too busy. Some wait lists are two years. I really appreciate you leaving a comment, I enjoy hearing all the different stories people have about their own sheepdogs or people who want to get one. Have a great day, Chad.

I’ve to agree with all the reasons on your list, except #5. Not sure, where you got that info that they are on decline. Also, not all OES like kids. but I guess that can apply to many other breeds. They are goofballs, clownish, silly, adorable, lovable, joyful and full of energy! Great video!

That's fair. Hopefully the OES numbers continue to steady or rise even. The info is from the respective kennel clubs. My experience with our Molly is that she loves kids. But then again she loves all the animals at the farm too. It'd be hard to find an OES that doesn't like kids. All to do with their family life and training too i guess.

You are absolutely right in evry thing you said about OES. I am a fan of this best breed ever! I' m an OES owner since 35 Years. But why did the American cut the tails? The dogs are so pretty with tails and much more expressful. I now this, because my first dog was one with bobbed tail too. Have you ever seen 3 OES (with tails) witch are playing together in the garden.....? Beautyful!!!! Greetings from Germany Marion

My heart has been stolen by this breed and I’ll probably never have another breed. Nice to hear you’re a lifelong OES lover. The docked tails is still the breed standard here in Ontario, Canada. I’m not sure about the US though. It was just historically done to prove they were a farmers working dogs and didn’t pay tax. Tails or no tails these dogs are truly the greatest in my book. 🍻

Oh my. We’ll I know that sheepdogs have a natural instinct to nip the ankles of sheep when there driving them to a direction but never really had the issue with Molly. I think train using the word “no” with a stern voice and don’t accidentally encourage it either. She could just be adjusting to her new surroundings too. She is also probably teething which cause them to want to bite stuff, but you got to nip it in the bud before the behaviour progresses. Give her lots of toys to chew on. I’m no expert either it’s just my opinion on what I would do. Have a great one and good luck with your pup. Chad.
I am planning to get one but I am confused if I should go for Old English sheepdog or sheepadoodle? Can you guide me
@HiddenSpringFarm
2 жыл бұрын
Well both are great dogs. Oes will have a thicker hair and is waterproof whereas the doodle has longer finer hair and not waterproof. Both require a good amount of brushing. Both are amazing family dogs. OES being a purebred may be more expensive than a cross breed. Both have natural herding instincts, but I think a doodle is much more playful just like a poodle. Sadly the popularity of the doodle has made the OES a rare breed so they're not as many of them out there. Hope that helps.
