Old English Sheepdog Puppy's First 6 Months on the Farm

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This episode is all about Molly, our Old English Sheepdog farm puppy. It's really just a remembrance of her first 6 months. She's an amazing companion and she makes us smile just about everyday. She is super sweet, loyal and loving. We couldn't have asked for a better farm dog. She is in training to be both a herding dog and a livestock guardian dog. I also include clips of some facts about old english sheepdogs just in case you might be thinking about getting an OES puppy. Please enjoy the video, remember to subscribe to our channel and follow us on our journey of transforming an old hobby farm into an amazing farm stay vacation rental and experience. Thanks for watching. #oldenglishsheepdog #farmdog #puppy

Just found this video. While in junior high school in the early 70's, there was an OES named Molly that lived just down the street from the school. Molly would follow her owner to school each morning, and would return each afternoon waiting at the door. Molly was a local celebrity.

I started watching your videos a few weeks ago so when the accident happened I didn’t really know Molly. I’ve went back to watch her grow up and this one was so hard to watch. But it’s nothing compared to hole left by her absence that you and everyone who knew Molly is feeling. I know there’s not much anyone can say that helps the pain but Molly truly was living her best life. She had the life that every dog dreams of and deserves. Even though it’s hard to go back and watch these, I feel like I should so I have some understanding of who Molly is and what she meant to her family. It’s so tragic and I hope you give yourselves grace and patience as you heal.

Watching your Molly when she was younger is like watching my Daisy when she was that age. She had a patch across her eye but her ear was also grey. She had one eye with pink lids on the white side and an eye that looked like she had eyeliner on on the patch side. She lived to 13 and it broke our hearts when we lost her. She guarded me and I knew she would fight to the death if anyone attacked me. Seeing Molly trying to go up ladders brought back a memory. She took great offence with our window cleaner and she tried everything in her cunning arsenal to get to him. She foiled a visitor once and she ran down the road after the window cleaner. When I got to her she had climbed the ladder and was shaking his bum bag containing his cleaning clothes. I shouted leave it and she reluctantly let go and managed to get down. The poor man was terrified. I had to walk her back home holding on to an ear (or rugs as we called them). She once chased a flasher in a local park. I could hear him screaming in the bushes and the local bowls club were laughing uncontrollably. She came back to me very proud of herself quickly afterwards. This man had been upsetting children and old ladies so she sorted him out. He was a local pest and the police were trying to catch him. We have an elderly weimaraner now but watching your videos has made me want a male OES next. Thank you for taking me down memory lane. Wendy from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤

My husband & I own an OES that we named Cheyenne Blue - he was born on Feb. 13, 2019. Everything you say in your videos are "Right On" - Cheyenne is the "Love of our Life"! I had always wanted an OES, wasn't sure why - but realized I watched too many Annette "Disney" movies - there was always an OES in them! Cheyenne is a little over 2 years old now!! We have requested that we get one of his 'sister - Starling's 1st litter of pups' --- we are sooo excited!!! We love your videos - I wish we had seen them before having Cheyenne neutered - enough said!!! Thanks for sharing Molly with us all!!!! Gale - Southern California

Hi Gale I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I love hearing peoples thoughts and feedback. Molly is growing up so fast right before my eyes and she is absolutely amazing. It would be so fun to have two OES running around the farm you guys are so lucky. I've been to California 2 times...L.A., San Diego, San Fran...we did a long driving trip twice on the pacific coast highway. My wife's sister lives in Chino so we visit them. I too remember OES in shows and movies...they're such a friendly looking dog so no wonder they want to showcase them in Hollywood. Denise the Menace had one and I remember The Shaggy Dog Disney original. It's pretty cool that Molly can have some fans from all over the world. She's just loving life at the farm. Have you watched the episode celebrating Molly's 1st birthday? Anyways, Thanks again. Say hi to Cheyenne for us. Chad.

Hi Monica thanks for watching. It’s really true the breed has been in decline for years. Not only in North America but in the UK also. More and more people are being influenced by small dogs that celebrities carry in their purses. You are going to absolutely love this breed of dog. And thanks for going out of your way to acquire one. They are the sweetest things. Of course they need to be trained right just like any dog, but they are great for any size of house or property, awesome family dog. My Molly’s personality is by far the best feature. She is very loyal and always wants cuddles, she doesn’t shed like other dogs cause she has hair not fur. Hair does fall out though, but regular brushing takes care of it. My Molly even shows so many human like traits. If I’m scolding her for discipline on something she did wrong after a few minutes she comes over and sits at my feet and put her head on my lap- just to apologize to me. So sweet natured of all the dogs I’ve had in my life I’m sure OES will be the only breed I’ll ever own now. Your gonna love your puppy, they are so cute and soft too like little plush toys. I have many other videos of Molly growing up if you’re interested. Enjoy your new OES puppy Monica. Have a great day, Chad.

Great video, Molly is amazing. So cute. My Roxy turned 9 y.o. in March. I can't compare with other breed since it's my first dog ever but I've read many books about dogs and often it was mentionned that once you get an OES, you stick to that race. Lovely creatures. Mine have "human eyes" 😂 They are very funny too! Roxy just love our canadian winters and becomes crazy when there's snow! I'm not 100% sure but I think in Québec, they don't cut the tail anymore. But you're lucky if in Ontario, they still do. I think it is part of their charm and personnality. Long live to Molly!🤗

Great video! We live in Brazil and we also have a 7-month old OES. His name is Sibelius, and it`s interesting to see that he shows pretty the same behavior as Molly. We live in an urban house, so our backyard is of course much smaller than your farm, but Sibelius loves to dig a hole in our little garden and to chew the sticks that he pulls from the poor plants. I used to get annoyed at him always trying to run ahead of me, but after your explanation about herding, I now understand what's he's doing. Thanks for the video, and please keep on doing the Molly's series!

Well based on my experience with Molly the first year and a half she had unlimited energy and needed a lot of exercise to burn it off. Since then she pretty much lies around all the time. This breed will adapt to any living condition and if you can provide exercise they’ll be fine. I used to let her burn off her energy first then do some training. Last April A KZread viewer gave us another OES pup named Olive and she keeps Molly busy 😆 A nice dog park or hiking trail will do the trick.

  • @HiddenSpringFarm

    @HiddenSpringFarm

    3 жыл бұрын

Hope you do get one Paula, with or without a tail. You’re so right that so many countries around the world have banned the practice citing it as cosmetic. It is still allowed for working dogs though. Canada however has not banned tail docking. We’re in Ontario where it’s still normal. Tail docking and ear cropping go hand in hand. The breed standard according to the Canadian Kennel Club is that the tail is docked. I don’t have Molly officially classed a “working” dog. In history a working dogs tail was docked to prove to the government they are working dogs and helps with a farms taxes. I would definitely still get another OES even with a tail cause they are awesome. Thank you for considering an Old English Sheepdog. Chad.

@@paulavertz6012 my first OES back in 1972 was a magnificent boy and one day when I was plumbing my old school teachers swimming pool on ahot day with all the widows fully down he jump out and rounded up all the animal's in three fields, two cows, five sheep and various ducks, chickens, Guinea fowls etc. and had them all in the corner of the field. My ex teachers wife called me from the plant room and I just said what have you done? But she said don't tell him off he's given me half an hour of enjoyment. Then asked how long it took me to train him to which I told her he's never worked animal's he was just a pet. It was purely instinct.

I live in Nova Scotia where Lyme disease is a big concern. How do you keep ticks off of them and is the large amount of fur/hair a problem for that?

Actually the dense double coat of hair is tick and flea prevention cause it’s so hard for them to get to the skin. But in any case I treat my dogs monthly with Nexguard.

@@HiddenSpringFarmWe get a tick and flea collar from out veterinary practice. You have to take them off regularly to groom the neck area otherwise they get matted around the collar. You can obtain tablets from the vet also and I tried them once but didn't like the idea of giving her medication that lasted so long. Hope this helps. I find products from the vet a lot more effective than pet shop bought products.

Well not sure where you live but I'm in Mid-Ontario. We got Molly from a breeder about 2 hours south of us in Canville, Ont. Blueshires Reg.

Wtf man... Tail docking is banned in all developed countries. Why would someone do this to their own dog??? Please educate yourself before you spread this kind of misinformation on YT!!!

Sorry but you are incorrect, although many developed countries around the world have banned docking, it is the OES breed standard here in Ontario. Molly came from the breeder as a “Bobtail” not chosen to be done by myself. Maybe Ontario, Canada will get there someday but for now most OES in Ontario have docked tails and Ontario does produce some of the highest regarded OES in the world, but I try by best not to spread misinformation. Did you enjoy the video of Molly at least? She is a sweetheart either way and is living life to the fullest at the farm. Cheers 😊

@@HiddenSpringFarm Yes I liked the video and your dog is wonderful but I'm worried because people like to follow trends and might chose to 'dock' the tail due to the procedure being seen as a 'not a big deal' by their YT star. Your channel is watched by people all over the world not only Ontario. I would encourage you to not praise docking in your videos: "It is believed that the practice of tail docking came about in the 18th century as a result of taxation laws that required working dogs to be docked as evidence of their working status,[1] but nowadays, in places where the practice is still legal, tail docking is mainly performed for purely cosmetic reasons."
