Top 10 reasons not to move to North Dakota. #1 won't shock most.
Nothing really wild ever happens in North Dakota but drinking and protesting the standing Rock Pipeline. This might be the perfect state to travel and relocate.

When the Ice Storms or Heavy Snow knocks down 20 or 30 miles of electrical lines and poles (yes, and it happens here frequently!) and you are without power AND HEAT for a few weeks in the middle of winter, you will be ever so happy to have that drunken cow next to you in bed to snuggle with and keep you warm, dear Corey Lindgren! (it's not that they never shut up and keep repeating themselves, Corey - the thing is, they have three stomachs, and they are ruminating) The MOST POPULAR WOMEN IN NORTH DAKOTA start out at 350 pounds, and their popularity increases with their weight. Statistically, being smothered in your sleep by a huge woman is more common than freezing to death here. If you do a Google search for "State with Biggest Penises", North Dakota tops most every list. You simply MUST be well-endowed to attract, satisfy and keep these huge gals, competition for them is so great. When you hear someone say "you gotta have a little extra meat on you to survive the cold in North Dakota", they are NOT referring to your BMI index - trust me.

I loved driving through North Dakota. For the first time ever I appreciated flat country, saw and learned about prairie dogs, prairie flowers, wondered what the the delightful smell was that came into my car despite the air conditioning (sage), a slight decline of the highway with an incredible view far into the distance despite the fact it felt basically flat, then a storm brewing was looking cool (decided to look for shelter).

The oil boomers don't usually last long, fill their pockets and look for another opportunity. ND has the lowest unemployment rate and not long ago they had a State budget that was way over funded (good thing). They don't waste money on illegals or over funded social hand outs.

I served in the U.S. Air Force at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota for almost four years. It is the only place where I actually saw a snow storm that occurred without precipitation. This is possible because at 20 or 30 below zero, the humidity drops out of the air and the snow is so dry that it will not stick together at all. The strong winds, which are quite common in that area, pick the snow up off the ground and blow it around just like a real blizzard. It is certainly a great place for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of suburbia, but dealing with the arctic winter conditions is certainly a great challenge.

You are not painting a true picture of North Dakota or the nice and friendly people who live there. You have to spend time or live in North Dakota to understand their stoic prairie spirit. The early settlers were from Sweden, Norway and Germany. The population of all of North Dakota is about the population of Milwaukee, Wi. Yet ironically, people from one side of the state know people from other parts of the state. It is a closer knit community than you think. Even before the development of coal-gasification (and Big Money) the large cities of Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks were on a growth spur and offer amenities attune to any Mid-western metropolis. On weekends, Canadians (from Winnipeg) drive down to Fargo and Grand Forks to shop, dine and socialize. We enjoy their international company and friendship. Also, it is not unusual for ND residents to drive down to the "Twin Cities" of St. Paul and Minneapolis to shop, dine and socialize. In addition our modern airports link us to any vacation spot we desire. So in closing, your list is a very limited view of "any rural" area in the country that has a snowy season to joke about. But, that is not us North Dakotans !

Right Kimosabe ! Travel to ND and increase your knowledge; visit The International Peace Garden (on the peaceful boarder of friendly Manitoba Canada) visit The Theodore Roosevelt National Park (western ND), visit the Fargo Air Museum. or very important Minot Air Force Base protecting you lower forty eight states, The Dakota Zoo and the Roosevelt Zoo, The Scandinavian Heritage Park, Fort Mandan, The Fargo Dome, Fort Lincoln State Park, Prairie Knights Casino and Resort, Lawrence Welk's boyhood home and farm and many other historical points of interest. A trip to Fargo or Bismarck should include a visit to one of our many fine steakhouses for home grown Angus Beef. The Best of the Best ! You could also hop a ride on Amtrak's "Empire Builder" superliner running from Chicago, then hugs the Great Mississippi river to the Twin Cities, on to Fargo and Bismarck and western ND, then the scenic west to the Emerald City of Seattle. A incredible scenic train adventure showcasing our golden wheat fields, impressive massive sunflower fields and badlands. It will knock your socks off. Happy Trails !

Winter lasts from about October to April so there's a lot of Spring and Summer days not mentioned in your video lol. 10 good things not mentioned are... 1) friendly people 2) low crime 3) low unemployment (lowest in the nation I believe) 4) clean air 5) lots of good hunting for deer, geese, ducks, pheasants, etc. 6) Lawrence Welk is from North Dakota and a few other famous folks! 7) not much chance of hurricanes or earthquakes 8) excellent education system (high school was harder than college!) 9) food fresh off the farm...corn, steak, eggs, milk, etc. 10) beautiful weather phenomena such as aurora borealis, cloud formations, thunderstorms seen from miles away, etc. Cheers! Oh yeah.. when it snows you... 1) have a friendly snowball fight 2) build snow forts! 3) make money shoveling out snow 4) go snowmobiling! 5) make snow cones 6) make snow angels 7) go sledding 8) catch a slow flake on your tongue 9) watch a hockey game 10) get out of school early!

North Dakota is an awesome state to live, but I had a stroke 2 years ago and recovering from a stroke does not work too well when you can't exercise every day and it's too cold out to go for a walk to get or stay in shape. If you live in a small town then you will not have to worry about being a victim of crime. If you live in some neighborhoods in larger cities in other states you will most likely be the victim of a crime, in North Dakota even in Fargo (the largest city in North Dakota) you still won't likely be the victim of a crime. in some small towns you can leave your keys IN the vehicle and it will still be there the next day when you come back. I love living in North Dakota except it gets so cold during the winter. I would not want to leave if I hadn't had a stroke. And North Dakota is Numero uno when it comes to quality of life of all 50 states. North Dakota is a great state to live in, crime and unemployment are in the top of lowest of any state anywhere. If you like watching college football then NDSU is the team to be a fan of with 6 out of 7 FBS championships. And people in North Dakota are some of the nicest anywhere in the US or world. Alot of the things that people don't like about North Dakota aren't that big of a deal anyway. I don't go to the bars anyway.

Thank you Denise I was thinking of the song Overcomer by Mandesa most times when I was in physical therapy trying to learn how to walk again. I had to work so hard to get back to where I am now. I'm back at my apartment living on my own and by myself too. My family didn't know if I could do that or not. I was living in a nursing home for a while starting just over 2 months after being in the VA Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, then I moved to the Veterans Nursing Home in Lisbon, North Dakota not because I couldn't take care of myself, but because the weather isn't fun to walk to the store or anywhere when it's bad outside. I bet Chicago can be like that too, but you probably didn't have your DL taken away and not being able to drive like I was.

Your health will be better than before! I declare in Jesus name! and so it is! You can also start getting into the habit of driving again by starting over if they allow it. like try to get your permit again, go out with a driving buddy & drive in the park or to short distances with a buddy. I think no I know just by your courageous spirit that everything is already working out for u. Stay blessed! Oh and Chicago is rough with the crime rate they don't call it chiraq for nothing but it's so much better in the winter. I'm thinking about visiting Montana or even north Dakota to go visit native american reservations and to be around nature more because it's to many darn buildings here😂

Lived most of my life in ND, and building a house now in Fargo. List is pretty spot on (though the mosquitoes could be on the list) A couple annoyances for those who live in ND in no particular order: 1) 7-8 months of cold weather. Winter basically lasts from late october/early november to late April to mid-May. As you pointed out, the upside to this is....a lot of sex to pass the time in doors. 2) The Wind. The wind almost never stops in North Dakota. Very rarely will you have anything less than 5mph. The wind NEVER STOPS in the winter. 3) The Cold. You will need to prepare yourself for a real cold winter. We get at least 1 solid month of -10F temps and a solid week of -30F to -40F temps. Most of the winter hovers between the single digits above and below zero. This also means your vehicle will need to use a winter oil (5W30) and either be parked inside a garage at night or you will need a block heater to keep the oil in your car from turning to the viscosity of jelly. I'm not joking. 4) The Snow. Blizzards can last 2-3 days at a time, zero visibility and winds of 30-60MPH. 5) Tornadoes. We don't get many but we do get some and they are always a concern 6) Mosquitoes. They may be Minnesota's State Bird, but they certainly don't care about state boarders and often do blood raids into ND. 7) Flooding. In the east, ND is flat as a pancake and overland or flash flooding is a real threat. In the spring, along the ND/MN border, you have the Red River of the North. Know why they call it that? Because it is one of 3 or 4 rivers in the world that run North. Because it flows north, when the spring melt happens in the southern part of the state, the river is still frozen up in Canada (Winnipeg to be exact) and that means the river backs up and you get flooding. Ask anyone over 30 if they remember the Flood of 1997. We had a Flood, then a blizzard during the flood, then downtown Grand Forks went up in flames. It wasn't nice. 8) North Dakota Nice: Speaking of nice, the people of North Dakota also are fairly friendly folks, but unlike Minnesota Nice, North Dakota Nice is passive aggressiveness taken to an art form. Prepare yourself for that. 9) Acceptance: It is easy to be accepted as a member of a city in ND, but if you move to a small town, don't expect to be accepted as a member of the community. Oh, people may be nice, but it won't be until your Grandkids or great grandkids are born before your family is accepted as real members of the community...and you and your kids never will be.. the grandkids/great grandkids will. 10) The Pay Sucks: Yep, what earns you a triple digit salary in other states may earn you only in the mid-double digits in ND, and as a right to work state with multiple universities pumping out a lot of young talent willing to accept the low pay, you don't have much in the way of leverage to get better pay. 11) Nothing much to do: Unless you enjoy Horses, Hockey, Football, and winter activities like ice fishing and snowmobiling, you are going to have to make your own entertainment to keep yourself occupied. Weird fact, their are more drone racers per capita in ND than any other state. Got to do something with all that open air space, right? 12) Single life sucks: You hit that on the head. If you live in the eastern side of the state, finding a mate isn't hard. You have Grand Forks, Fargo, Valley City and Wahpeton/Breckenridge to scout and you are only 3 hours by car from the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). If you are out West, the candidate pool is very, very small so yeah, you better be married before moving to the western side of the state. 13) WWIII: Because North Dakota is so barren, the US Government thought it was the perfect spot to put a large number of their nuclear tipped ICBMs. Bomb shelters won't help you here. If WWIII comes, you are not surviving it as you'll be dead by either a direct strike of the massive radiation poisoning that will follow. In fact, after WWIII, if you ask 'what ever happened to North Dakota' the response will be 'it doesn't exist anymore'. 14) No Major League sports teams: You'll be cheering for the Vikings, Bears, Packers, Eagles, or Patriots for football, the Minnesota Twins for baseball, The Minnesota Wild hockey team, or the Timberwolves for basketball. If you are into college football, prepare to be ignored when you ask for the channel to be changed at the local sports bar so you can watch your college team play. If the NDSU Bison football team is playing, it is the only game shown, everyone else can go home if they want to see something else. Same when the UND 'Fighting Hawks' Hockey team is playing (though don't call them the Fighting Hawks....locals call them "The Sioux". The name change is just to placate the NCAA. No one wears the 'fighting hawks' gear...it's all UND Sioux sweaters and stickers). 15) Drones. They are everywhere out east. In fact the state is encouraging drone companies to come to the state and is supportive of their use. Flying weedwackers everywhere.

I think you pretty much nailed most of it. I am a Hoosier and moved here during the crash in 2008. One thing I noticed is my accent sounds southern to nodaks. And the born and raised small town North Dakotans, they do NOT like outsiders moving in. After awhile they warm up and accept you living here, but you will always be an outsider. Always. They like their small "cities" no towns here it's all cities, and they want to keep them the way it is and don't want change. But they do like good people, and Indiana to North Dakota wasn't a hard move for us. Oh and there are NO trees! No woods! It's all flat farmland mostly. You have to take a drive to go see some woods. -60 in the winter sucks, plug the cars in so they don't freeze up, and heated seats and steering wheel covers are awesome. Winter in Alaska wasn't as brutal as here. But you pretty much nailed why we moved here and love it here, nothing beats small town simple life in farm country. Oh and that whole North Dakota nice is about as real as Hoosier hospitality, it lasts for awhile until folks get comfortable around you, then they can be mean as cat piss lol..
