Top 10 reasons NOT to move to West Virginia. The Mountain State
.
West Virginia is a great state. Don't take what I am saying in this video as me casting hate on the mountain state. They have a beautiful state with great people. West Virginia just has a few more problems than other states right now.

  • @leighaiancaden

    @leighaiancaden

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Sum Ego .. I don’t think you’re gonna find a rich or wealthy drug dealer living here in WV. Unless you’re referring to some of the doctors, pharmaceutical sales reps, dirty law enforcement, and anyone that’s in or was in state level government when the opioid problems became obvious to the rest of the world. If 90% of the people you referred to as a drug dealer were being honest you’d see that most live from hand to mouth, aren’t proud of what they do, probably have some old felony drug charge that they’ve served their time for but still prevents them from obtaining any kind of decent paying job to take care of their responsibilities. I’m not saying that selling drugs is an admirable way to support yourself and/or your family. I’m only saying you won’t find any rich or well to do dealers here, unless you’re looking at the ones I mentioned.

If you love nature and the outdoors, want to retire, or want land and a white picket fence, then this is the state for you. There is sightseeing for miles literally. White water rafting, canoeing, fishing, hiking, camping, rock climbing, hunting etc. Anything outdoors you can imagine. There are jobs here despite what anyone thinks. Construction, coalmining, and pipeling are abundant in this state. Many technical centers to further your education. It's a great place to raise a family, and have alot of fun!!

Pretty crazy how well that song is known internationally.

    I have lived in WV for 10+ years and recently graduated from college here at WVU. I grew up in Wheeling, lived in Morgantown for 5 years while in college, and recently moved to the greater Charleston area with my boyfriend. The differences between these three areas couldn’t be bigger. Honestly Wheeling is more like a city, and feels like an extension of Pittsburgh more than it feels like a part of WV. Morgantown is just insane, in like the best way... but Charleston. Oh Charleston. Living here has given me my first taste of what people not from WV think it is. First of all the hollers are probably my favorite part of this area😂 everything else is really just lots of meth, heroin, and failing businesses. There’s a huge wealth gap in this state and it becomes more apparent here in Charleston than anywhere else that I’ve lived in WV. The truth is not all people from West Virginia are poor, in fact where I grew up in Wheeling was a very wealthy community with three fantastic school systems, two of which were privately run. The father south you go in the state however, the bigger the wealth gap seems to grow. There are many people here in Boone county that have next to nothing but the few that do have money seem to own and control just about everything!

Seeing the houses buried deep down mountain paths with nothing but miles of forest in all directions was mindblowing. The burial of family on personal property & the huge amount of family cemetaries. The people , even those we seen deep in the "boonies" waved and said hi. super friendly. Their roads are golden compared to Pittsburgh lol. Aside from the poverty , its taking everything in me to not ditch this city and disappear back into those west Virginian mountains. Absolutely loved it .

I live in the Hudson River valley right on that noble waterway overlooking the Catskill Mountains. So when I say WV scenery is just breathtaking, that's no empty compliment. The people were delightful and interesting to strike up conversations with. Combine that with the natural beauty, its sense of history, and the belief in taking a calmer, more sane approach to life, and it's obvious that WV is a jewel of a state.

    I spent 4 years in Morgantown as an adult. I moved to Florida when the pandemic hit. Aaaaaand I'm moving right back. Something about that state drew me in. I found home there. The people are so kind, good natured, and have a great work ethic, which is the major cause for drugs--boredom. We don't do well with it! The Appalachian region is filled with a deep work ethic and hardiness from early settlers who fought hard for their territory. They had the busted knuckle mentality that kept them thriving. Now, even in modern times, those restless, rugged instincts to work until you drop are still there but sadly, the outlet (hard work) is not. Mining was a difficult profession but also a tradition that locals look intense pride in. When it faded away, there was nothing left to channel that work ethic into and depression kicked in. There's something simple, hard, and honest about the region because of the generations that inhabit it. If those tough jobs came back, I guarantee a lot of young, tough men would rush to fill the positions. The common complaint about WV is "there are no jobs". These people are built like absolute work horses and have teamwork and loyalty like no other (helping people, valuing honesty, giving selflessly, etc.). They just need the industry to channel that into so they don't self destruct. Bringing meaningful, challenging industries would fix a lot of issues with drugs and poverty.

    West Virginia has some of the nicest people in the US by far. You can argue all day about it being rural, having the highest poverty, obesity, drug overdose rate etc but there are very few places in the US anymore where the people are just so down to earth and welcoming. My family immigrated here from the Middle East 40 years ago and I have traveled and lived in several major US cities but never felt welcomed like I have in West Virginia. Despite the current political climate, our neighbors continue to treat us like family. I think a lot of what is hated about West Virginia is misguided by stereotypes rather than the beauty it has to offer...

The people out here are the friendliest you'll ever meet. For example, I was fishing in a pond that I did not know was private property. A man came out to tell me to leave and was rightfully irritated. What started out as him coming out to run me off ended with us exchanging fishing stories and tips on bass fishing.

    Jared Milam That’s right. West Virginia has a lot to boast about. I was born and raised in WV, live in another state now, believe me, this state has many, many skeletons in the closets, much worse than any in WV.

    Just got done watching this video. Grew up in Pittsburgh and West Va was part of my territory as an auditor for 5 years, My take: 1. Morgantown is atypical of West Va. A really cool college town that is near and dear. About 20% of my high school went to WVU and they throw a really good party. 2. Charleston leads the state in "Suckage". Outside of Buffalo, NY, it's America's ugliest city! Mad props to you for calling out the airport cause landing truly challenges one's faith in a Supreme Being! LOL 3. Huntington is probably one of the coolest places in the state. Another college town with Marshall University. Seems colleges go hand in hand with making the cities better. (Exception Charleston and West Virginia State) 4. Your observations of the Hollars of WV are quite real. As a black man, even more so for me! 5. The people I met there for the most part were quite friendly and helpful. I feel bad for them when I hear the stereotype promoted by people that have never been there. 6. The landscape is beautiful. Especially Southern West Virginia and the New River Gorge!

They lived in Morgantown and he was my great grandmother's sister's son so I can definitely relate to the Mayberry part cause its in my blood. 😂😂😂
