They recently dropped off, if this list was done several years ago things would have been different

Plattsburgh State should 100% be in the top 10. They're a phenomenal team and Moffat has turned into a coach alot of guys want to play for

They were an elite program, but they dropped off recently. Hopefully they pock it back up moving forward
Geneseo vs Adrian in 2022 final for D3 championship. So Geneseo was #2 - and controversial penalty in first period of final might have been the difference why they weren’t #1 for real.
Another great video! Father of a 9 y/o AA squirt here so I am several years away from this topic however I have a question... Why is there no NCAA D2? Why is there only D1 and D3?

Glad you liked the video! And great question, there are a few theories but no one knows for sure. There is a small subset of NCAA D2 in hockey, but they play against NCAA D3 programs. The most agreed upon theory is that hockey players typically play NCAA at older ages compared to other sports, which affects overall eligibility for D2 sponsorships. That being said, we don’t really know
Geneseo has zero national titles and has only been exceptionally good for the last 10 years. 1- SNC, 2- Norwich, 3- Adrian, 4- Point, 5- Geneseo
Plattsburgh has to get itself back in the top ten. Obviously Emery retiring negatively effected the program.

Speaking as a former D3 player (my school was not on the list), this type of ranking should not be the primary consideration when picking a D3 program. If you’re playing D3 you are VERY, VERY unlikely to make a living playing hockey after school. You should be trying to get the best education you can at this level. If you can get into a NESCAC school, or somewhere like a Babson, Hobart or Skidmore - go there. The education you get and the connections you make will far outweigh winning a few more games on the ice. The NESCAC schools aren’t going to consistently perform at the top of the rankings because of the admissions standards and other restrictions, such as playing fewer games (with the exception of Middlebury in the late 90s-early 00s) but I promise you no kid that played for a NESCAC school is wishing they went to an Adrian or SNC or Utica when they’re five years out of school and competing in the world.

We agree with you! There are definitely other factors to consider than hockey calibre, especially at the D3 level

They were very close!
Hobart is private. No New York State tuition.
UMass Boston should be on the list
oswego state is the best d3 program
