    It’s even sadder to know that “Leaves from the Vine” was a song that Mako, the voice of Iroh, wrote, knowing it would be his last and that he was dying. His emotion is raw and real.

    To be honest, I hate when people start comparing ATLA and TLOK. If you watched TLOK expecting to get Sokka 2.0 in the cast then you’re sadly mistaken. Personally, when I was younger, I preferred watching ATLA but now that I’m older, I’ve come to appreciate TLOK for its difference, themes, and most especially its protagonist. 1. ATLA was all about the world needing the avatar and the spirituality of bending while TLOK was all about the world not needing the avatar. Korra wanted to be the avatar but she was rejected as you can see with all the villains, Amon, Unalaq, Kuvira and Zaheer. She tried to be the avatar but was ultimately broken. 2. It dealt with political issues such as fascism, anarchy, democracy, equality e.t.c. ATLA is awesome and all but TLOK also deserves praise for its direction and storylines. I admit it would have been better if Nickelodeon didn’t dick them around. TLOK doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets. Unpopular opinion: I understood when Korra lost contact with her past lives. I may have hated it but now I get why. It was all about narrative direction where Korra had to learn to forge her own path, much like Zuko. Think about it, if that hadn’t happened, we’d all be waiting anxiously for a past life to guide her while battling Zaheer. Korra had an awesome character development, from season one where she was brash and violent to season 4 where she is reserved and tries to keep the peace, while learning from all her mistakes. While the end of ATLA was an epic finale, the end of TLOK marked a new beginning showing her journey is still progressing. She was in balance with herself and was ready to be in a relationship with Asami unlike the disaster that was with Mako. I think Netflix should have taken TLOK into live action unlike ATLA. There is too much nostalgia surrounding ATLA that if it fails all in the name of money, then... TLOK has the standards of a Netflix show, edgy, and most of all, it doesn’t get the praise and recognition it deserves all because of ATLA. Think about how different it would have been had the creators been told in advance there would be 60 episodes rather than just going with the flow. The difference is in S03-04 which were better than S01-02 because they knew the number of episodes they would be working with. If Korra failed, it is all Nickelodeon’s fault for screwing up the writers, budget cuts, moving it to the website and ordering fewer episodes and basically treating the show like a side product. They gave so much attention to ATLA that with the few episodes per season in Korra, there was little time for character development for the side characters other than Korra. It’s unfair what they did which is the main reason why I want Netflix to pick up that series and do a better job with Bryke.

    @@vetarlittorf1807 I hope the next Avatar undone this. I have a theory that every other Avatar redeem the previous one, for Roku, his biggest regret was not being able to stop the 100 years war but aang redeemed Roku by stopping fire nation, aang's biggest regret was he wasn't able to prevent air nomads genocide, but korra was able to somehow successfully build the air nation again. And for korra her biggest regret was she lost the connection with past lives. Who knows maybe there's a way to get it back and the next Avatar probably would be able to re-connect with all of the Avatars.

And, he says that Korra is a mary sue because she doesn’t go through anything emotional, and I’m like, “boi, I have seen so many clips of Korra going through emotional shit, so don’t even try me!” I haven’t seen LOK, but it looks promising, even though there are some parts I’m iffy on.

    Another scene that breaks my heart and makes me tear up is in lok when there were new airbenders and tenzin was sitting on top of the cliff looking at aangs statue and says, 'it's like a dream dad. After 170 years, new airbenders.' and he starts tearing up whilst hugging his kids saying, 'we'll have to get used to not being the own airbenders. If only your grandfather was alive to see this.' Poor aang went through so much. Imagine all your people being slaughtered and being the last one of your whole culture and identity. He would've been so happy to see his culture expanding once again and he would've cried from sadness but happiness at the same time. I can understand why he gave tenzin most of his attention bcz their entire air nomad population starts from aang to tenzin to his kids and so on. The whole air nomad story never fails to make me cry buckets. This cartoon is honestly the best in the whole world. I always watch it every year and then wait a year to forget everything so i can re watch it. A huge thanks to the creators and everyone included :)

    The biggest reason to love both series is it never shys away from emotional feeling and that's what I love about both series. Aang losing Gyasto was heart-breaking because he didn't just lose a teacher, Aang lost a father figure. Monk Gyasto was so good to Aang; they played, Gyasto made Aang laugh when he was lonely, he even tried to protect him. Who would feel sad about that? Jet dying was sad too. Katara hated him for how he lied to her but in the end, I saw the sadness in Katara's eyes when she last sees him. She forgave him but also, she couldn't do anything for him. You can bet I cried when Zuko reunited with Uncle Iroh. That still hits me because Zuko did betray his Uncle and worried things won't be the same between them again. Watching Iroh hug his nephew really pulls the heart strings ten fold for me and it's a sight I'll never forget. There's one thing Uncle Iroh would never do, and that's stop loving his nephew.

  • @slaysmr_

    to me it makes perfect sense. they spent years hoping for a airbender kid and when katara finally had one of course they were aang’s main focus. he could teach them air bending and associated them more with his own culture, although they were all his kids.

  • @samirah278

    @samirah278

    @@slaysmr_ I watched a video called "was Ang a bad father?" Or something like that and they made some good points as to why it doesnt make sense. 1) Katara wouldn't let Ang get away w favouritising a child so much and 2) even if his other children arent air benders, it's still a part of their culture. Within the air nomads there were non benders who were still exposed to the culture. It makes more sense for Ang to open Kaya and Boomie up to air nomad culture even tho they weren't air benders themselves. Ang was always passionate about being an air bender and would teach Katara about it too so I expected him to do the same with K and B as well. I can imagine an older him getting excited to go on a trip to the air temples and explore their history with all three of his children, not just Tenzen. I guess he would love Tenzen just that little bit more but neglecting his other children and not taking them on special air nomad trips just seems so unlike him which is just 😔 yk

  • @slaysmr_

    SiaLater i agree with that. aang was probably a really great father overall but there was probably favoritism between the kids (i’m guessing from katara to kya too). fans do sometimes over exaggerate, but we can’t let that blind anyone from noticing smaller details when watching legend of korra.

    the one thing i hate about the fandom is how much hate that they give to korra when she loses her past lives. remember that she's connected to raava, so every punch that unalaq gave to raava was connected to her as well. she didn't just wake up one morning and said, "yeah nope lol imma lose my past lives." if you actually view the episode in detail, she was *trying to get up, but she and raava are connected.*

    I believe Iroh's loss is what triggered his transformation into the person he is in the series (the one we all know and love). If you remember the Zuko Alone episode in season 2, Iroh writes to the family from Ba Sing Se and he is a totally different person. He conquered Ba Sing Se and was making fun of how he might just burn it to the ground. So although his loss pains me, losing Lu Ten made him question his life and his choices and made his transformation possible. I love the moments you chose! Great list!
