When I watched the plane scene from Mission Impossible - Rouge Nation for the first time in the theatre, it was really intense. I didn't know they can film outside instead of using CGI. I was shocked! It was crazy to see how Cruise pull his dangerous stunt like that!

The Abyss is seriously underrated. And yet, I love it! It deserves more praise and respect because the filmmakers nearly gave their lives to make it.
@billythekidder7182

Or it deserves condemnation because the filmmakers risked peoples lives all in the pursuit of money. Two sides to every coin.
My Grandpa who was at the Storming of Normandy broke down in tears in a panic attack while watching the opening of Saving Private Ryan. He stated for the first time (to my knowledge) what serving duringWW2 was actually like.We rented the movie to watch after dinner one Friday night. I felt like a shit heel. I expected the reality of it to be much less. Grandpa LOVED watching old war movies until SPR. He was shook to the core.
My father lost his leg in WWII. There's an extra in the scene from Saving Private Ryan that has his leg blown off in that opening montage. He's just an actor portraying a very small moment of an incredibly realistic, brutal scene, but when I saw it in the theater I just lost it. It was hard to stop crying to watch the rest of the film. It's such a painfully realistic portrayal of brutality that leads up to probably one of the finest last bits of dialogue in film. I've never watched it again, don't think I can, but it's an amazing film.

In the same vein as "The bridge of the river Kwai" the ending of the original Wicker Man was a beautifully timed gamble. They burned the actual life size giant effigy right as the sun was setting and the way it feel along with brilliant color of the sunset was absolutely stunning.

For sure. Amazed that wasn’t on here. Or Apocalypse Now. But back in the day, I feel like crazy stuff was more common, as there were less legal protections for crew and cast.
It may have been hell, but the payoff is there... the Abyss is hands down one of the most incredible films ever made
Thought Inception’s hotel corridor/hallway scene would be in there, that was a dope scene to conceive let alone film it inside a rotating set!

Totally amazing video watch mojo and fantastic job.
Film crew: Does an unrepeatable and difficult scene. Cameraman: Nice, this time I will press record!
I have heard that the fight scene inside of church in Kingsmen: the Secret Sevice, took weeks to film (I believe that is 9 minute sequence). That scene also deserves honorary mention, imo.
That incredible scene in Children of Men is worth an honorable mention.
For #7, "Spider-Man," I heard that the only "special effect" used in that scene was glue. From what I heard, the filmmakers glued the tray to Tobey Maguire's hand.
Despite the presence of aliens, The Abyss is really not a scary movie. 🥰🥰🥰A U.S recovery team attempting to salvage a downed submarine encounters what appears to be an alien aquatic species living deep in the Caribbean Sea.
I liked this twice to give it 2 Thumbs Up! 👍👍
4:33 *Loved the Spider-Man part to this day!* in 2022.
Fun fact: that saving private ryan scene actually had hugh jackman(wolverine) and liev schreiber(sabretooth) as soldiers.
Shelley Duvall walking backwards up a flight of stairs while carrying a bat in The Shining.
Honorable Mentions: *The Long Tracking Fight - Atomic Blonde -This scene showed just how exhausted the actors must've been after the cameras stopped rolling. *A BUNCH of Tracking Shots - Gravity -Try to nail a bunch of long takes in a movie without screwing up. *The Westboro Baptist Massacre - Kingsman: The Secret Service -The Choreography from so many people at once must take serious staging to get right. *The Stairway Scene - The Shining -Its debated how many takes were required to nail this scene. Some say it was more than 100, others say it was in the double digits.
That took about 150 takes. Well worth it!
I love how it turns from collapsing a bridge, crashing an airplane mid air, diving with wingsuit to peter catching a tray of foods with one hand
PRACTICAL EFFECTS BEFORE CGI That's my motto
Off course Tom Cruise is number 1 since "Mission Impossible" is his most intense stunt movies of all time. Can’t wait for MI7 this year.
I love the catching food scene in Spiderman.
193: No way. That’s really cool to know cause I had no idea at the time. Is there more I should know?
No Jackie Chan Hong Kong movies? From all the dangerous stunts to the hundreds of repeated takes, they should occupy multiple spots on this list.

Who knew at some point, Mission Impossible is gonna be number one? 😂😂
The cast of Titanic didn't just go through the wringer, they went through the wash and rinse cycle as well!😆😆😆

Tom Cruise playing Ethen Hunt was the most amazing stunt actors to ever play in the Mission Impossible movies.
I'm still in shock Toby actually caught the food. I read a Twitter comment saying it and I thought they were joking. Omg.
I think it's deserving to mention that Charlie Chaplin had an attrocious history of filming scenes with even 700 takes to make them look perfect.
the philosofy that "if you can dream it you can do it" nail perfectly in this video
It would be iconic if we ever got to see the fails of "catching the food" in Spiderman.
Great to see oldboy on the list, absolute belter of a film I love it 😀
At here Tom Holland is watching without making any spider man sense 😂
I KNEW THE CATCHING THE FOOD SCENE!
I still can’t can’t believe it there is NO WAY Toby actually caught that. Still is crazy to me
I think every action scenes in Mission Impossible movies were the most difficult to filmed because it had to be real

With no CGI at all which make Tom Cruise great
I thought they were 10 Jackie Chen movie clips hahaha
THE WINGSUIT SCENE WAS COOL!
“Victoria” was a low budget two hour film shot with a continuous shot and a 12 page script with only enough money for three redos but these scenes are nice.
After Tobey perfectly catch foods, director says: "Oh, I forgot to turn on the camera."
Goosebumps 💋❣️❤️
Tobey still got the moves
This list can entirely be dedicated to Tom Cruise and his mission impossible film stunts
The Bride facing off against the Crazy 88 was one of my fave scenes from Kill Bill Vol. I. Peter Parker saving M. J., and saving the lunch tray seemed inspired & influenced by DC’s Showcase #4, the intro of the Silver Age Flash, where Barry Allen had a very similar scene at a diner. The NEST wingsuits seem lifted from Marvel’s Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD from a story by Jim Steranko.
Also worth mentioning about Jackie Chan movies like Police Story, Project A and Armour Of God.
Abyss yeah and Tom C could’ve had a whole list to himself but how the heck did Tobey catch that jello? Move him up higher. I thought they filmed that in reverse.
already knew that the abyss would be here
What about the funeral scene in Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi'? 300,000 (!) Volunteers were required and the half city of Dehli was shotdown for the film sequence.
The most visceral movie scene to me was in the movie The Abyss when Mastrantonio's character was to deliberately drown. OMG!!! I could feel it!!! And to this day I now have a tremendous fear of drowning and can't think about it too much. LOL. 🤪
Old boy is one of the best films ever made!! The twist will catch you so off guard you'll shout at your TV 😂
156 takes?! damn thats commitment lol
Alien resurrection water scene was a hard shoot for the actors, especially Tom Woodruff Jr. who could not see or hear a thing in the suit he was in.
You forgot about Christopher Nolan's Inception in 2010.
When it comes to action movies guys like Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise are Legends just for their bravery alone
Scene missing: The helicopter attack in Apocalypse Now. Coppola spent something like half the budget on that scene. The Filipine army kept calling back their choppers to fight rebels, a typhoon destroyed the set at one point, and martin sheen had a heart attack.
Wow. I actually had a short comment section chat with the actual "Iron Man 3" stunt coordinator.
i think Inception gravity-less hallway fight is worth honorable mention too
Jackie chan took 120 shots to do the boomerang fan back in the days
The wing suit scene in the new Point Break is by far the better wing suit stunt
How do they still have video ideas lmao 🤣
2:36 Smarter Every Day cameo😉
They only built one half of the Titanic replica for outdoor shots. Since it was the starboard side, the docking in Dublin was incorrect as it docked on the port side. To fix the problem they filmed everything and the images were flipped. Which means any words had to be spelled backwards, actors switched sides and costumes were altered, so it looked normal. Everytime the painstaking went through the shoot, they had to redo it if something was wrong or unnatural after watching the flipped footage.
Kudos to Tobey for doing the stun by himself and Kirsten who needs to slip many times.
@OH_MY_DOGGG

She only slipped once. The rest was pure acting.
Raimi: Let's wrap it up, people Bully Maguire: You'll get your wrapping up when I catch the damn food
I wish the six minutes battle sequence from Children of men was there 😥
i liked the Spider-Man one.
0:47 oof imagine how much time it will cost if it was wrong timed to get the train out of the river
*Props for all those who worked on these films*
Love WatchMojo but I hate to break the news, that Spider-Man scene did not take 156 takes. It took “multiple” takes but not even close to 156. The special effects supervisor said in commentary on that scene “here’s take 156” or something like that as a joke to show that it was a hard scene to get right. They had magnets and glue to make sure the props stuck to the tray easier.

Get outta here with your "facts", Tobey McGuirre is Spider-Man.
what about the scene in aliens 4, where Ripley plays baseball ??
Only 156 takes?! That's why that's my favorite movie EVER!!!!🥰😍
I was expecting Kubrick's 2001 jogging more than 360 degrees around the deck on the Discovery. He had to build the whole thing and then rotate it during filming.
What about Kill Bill Vo.1 or any Jackie Chan's fighting scenes? Could be considered an honorable mention
Should have included the buffalo hunt scene from dances with wolves.
you forgot so much history there. Ben Hur run scene is certainly among the 5
Now we have Number 0: Mountain cliff scene - Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning (2023) Hats off to Tom Cruise for always giving his best for his fans ❤. He's truly an icon.
Actually, your #1 spot belongs to an establishing shot from one of the worst reviewed bombs of all time... The Bonfire of the Vanities. The brilliant Patrick Wilhelm covers it on his channel. I have no idea how to link to it from mobile, but seriously... his video essay on this one shot is engrossing as it is informative.
Top Gun: Maverick could change hundreds of Watchmojo lists
