Really dig your hi hat sound. Is there a 15" set up or a set of cymbals that would get me close to the sounds your getting? Cheers!
@JeffRandallDrumming

@@hvysouldg The 15's aren't going to be as "thick" sounding as those 17's but a dark/thin pair of Zildjian Constantinoples would get you going in the right direction!

Used to go hear Clyde play with his weekly blues and soul gig locally in the decade before he passed. He was a treasure & didn’t have star attitude. RIP Clyde.

Dam dam dam Clyde and Jabbo style is my fav as is J Dilla's
Clyde and Jabo taught me all about "tipping" the hi hat. Coming from a rock background, i was used to shouldering the hats to get a more aggressive sound, which was great, but I found Jabo and Clyde taught me how to stay in control of my hi hat work by keeping them soft. I.e "tippin'"

You’re very welcome Eric!
Damn! You are one of the very few drummers that can accurately play those drum patterns. I was especially blown away when you played “Funky Drummer” and “Give It Up, Turn It Loose”. 💯
Wow, this the best Funky Drummer cover I've ever heard. And the recording sounds amazing, warm, dry and punchy
I keep coming back to these videos and trying to add these grooves to my arsenal. Can't thank you enough for this diverse and sharp content. You and Rob Brown are my favorite teachers. Quarantine is a breeze thanks to you guys.
Great stuff, as always! I'm really excited about that little "trick" for the funky drummer! Makes it so much more accessible all at once!! Thank you so much!
Really enjoy your content, Jeff. It's refreshing to watch you play and teach in a space that feels so inundated with flashy, over the top chops. You share practical skills that we can all learn from. I admire your work!

Means a lot Andrew, thanks man.
Excellent review and amazingly executed! You most definitely got the “soul” my friend! Lastly, you nailed the “Funky Drummer” beat at the end. I must say, clever technique for easing up on the wrist and forearm because of those continued 16th notes. Keep it up the great work!
Amazing grooves !! Those drums sounds awesome !!

Man, these are deceptively tricky to pull off! They all sound awesome though, worth the effort. Great video Jeff!
Holy crap ... had to come back again Jeff ... just watching you feel the joy of playing is infectious. I'm not that accomplished, I just play for fun, but I do try to learn beats that are out of my comfort zone ... slowly ... and so I enjoy watching players and breaking down what is being played. I'm slowly learning Tom Sawyer and also the Rosanna Groove at present. Just really enjoy watching you on the kit ... cheers!
Awesome video.

Man that second section of the super bad groove sounds sooooo good, could keep that on repeat all day! Do not know how you get your right hand so accurate with those groups of 3 while getting the snare part crispy too 😥 I had to really think about what my right hand was doing with that! Did not feel natural at all 😂 Keep doing what you’re doing my man! Really enjoy your videos. Love from Sheffield, England!

Practice “throwing the stick” so that its dribbling off the cymbal…if the stick is doing the work for you then you can focus more on cracking the snare 🫡

All these drum breaks influenced hiphop for years. Especially funky drummer
I’m working on Mother Popcorn it’s a killer. That’s a good version of that groove but I find the beginning of that song even more challenging because the hats are unrelenting ! Hard to keep these grooves nice and light. Thanks for the vid
Cool 😎

Keep up the great work.

@@JeffRandallDrumming I'm sure you've already heard this but I consider it the funkiest drum solo of all of James' songs, as performed by William Bowman. It's in Part 2 of the song 'I Can't Stand Myself', staring at the 4:35 mark. If you haven't heard it, it's a real treat: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4Rl2dalltaenMo.html
Get Up Get Into It Get Involved is the groove Chad Sexton applied on Use of Time w/ 311.
Jeff, another great video! I hope you are planning a video for the top 10 Zig drumbeats. If not, please consider =] I see a lot of the same concepts that would carry over. Cheers!
