    I like how you speak * slowly * enough for a beginner to follow. Plus the subtitles are helpful. I started listening to a beginner French course from the library, on compact disks. A man and woman were jumping back and forth from French to English, and they spoke SO FAST, I was barely understanding what they said. I gave up on that one. I was not going to learn beginner French from them.

    I’m currently at A2 level with French, and I’ve purchased the 600 words course. I’m halfway through and find it to be a fantastic course. The sound quality and pronunciation is outstanding , so many little cues that I’m picking up, even with the simplest of phases. I highly recommend it.

    How do I know when the adjective comes after the noun? For example, I've seen things like _"maison rouge"_ ou _"chaussures noires"_ ou _"voiture blanche"_ , but here it says _"grosse voiture"_ . How do I know when a description comes before or after in a French sentence because it seems to change and I don't know what the general rule is for this.

  • @mikeb3707

    @mikeb3707

    The general rule is that the adjective is placed after the noun. But there are always exceptions to this rule. For example certain adjectives are placed before the noun, such as: Bon (good), Mauvais (bad), Petit (small) and Grand (tall).

    No no please do! I was going to use BAGS too and it's always good to have as many explanations as possible. Ha ha life cannot be a beach every day I guess ;-) Here we have no beach. We do have a great swimming pool and the weather is lending itself for it just fine but... I have to much work ha ha!

    With the kind approval of our esteemed French teacher, I learned that adjectives in French usually come after the noun, as in "une maison rouge, " (a red house.) However there are exceptions, and one way to remember those exceptions is with the mnemonic "BAGS," (beauty, age, goodness, size). As for beauty, we can all agree that, "Virginie porte une belle écharpe dans cette vidéo." (Virginie is wearing a beautiful scarf in this video.). As for age, I can say, "Virginie va m'acheter une nouvelle voiture!" (Virginie is going to buy me a NEW car!) Merci, Virginie. As for goodness, I can say, "Virginie va m'acheter une bonne voiture!" (Virginie is going to by me a GOOD car!) Virginie est très gentille. As for size, I can say, "Mais ce sera une petite voiture." (But it will be a small car.) ....Je suis triste, je voulais une grosse voiture...

    So verbs that end in 's' don't elide if the next word begins with a vowel? How about the word 'des'- does it not elide as a rule? This is the tricky part of French along the subjunctive tense.

    She is "cutting" the "liaisons" because it's easier for you. But usually the sentence (for example) je vais au marché (I go to the market) should be pronounce Je vais zau marché.
