    Druids are my favorite class to play. I particularly enjoy playing changeling druids for infiltrating (ie: the fly on the wall). I've made loxodon druids before and they are awesome because I like to rely on CON more than DEX for AC.

    Personal fave feats to take for Druid are fey touched (just for access to Misty Step and the Sleep spell), telepathic (because my DMs ruled that you could communicate while wild shaped) and observant (because we need folk with high PP in our group). Funnily enough I like giving my Druids high mental stats because of the straight benefits it gives to your wildshape. But it came at the cost of my DEX.

    Elements, HEED MY CALL! For my upcoming Circle of Stars Druid, I intend to take some of those: namely Resilient (CON) and War Caster. I might choose Fey Touched as well. But I’ll have to decide whether to max my WIS at level 4 or take Resilient first. As for other possible feats not included on this list… * Magic Initiate (WIS) for a few extra cantrips seeing as druids only get 4 at most (plus one more depending on your Druidic circle). The additional 1st-level spell would also help. * Medium Armor Master for any compatible medium armor that has stealth disadvantage such as scale mail, which could be made out of actual animal scales instead of metal. Also, the ability to add +3 from DEX. * Tough for extra HP. * Spell Sniper (WIS) to boost the range of those rare cantrips or spells that require attack rolls, such as Magic Stone, Thorn Whip, and Ice Knife. Being able to ignore cover also helps.

    Elements, heed my call! I definitely like resilient constitution and telekinetic for most druids. The bonus action available in different forms and the saving throw proficiency that also transfers to the forms is pretty good. Especially since some of the creatures actually have decent constitution scores. I like sentinel for a moon Druid. Some of the beast options have powerful single attacks and being able to use one of those as a reaction when an ally is attacked next to you can pack a punch. Savage attacker, which is normally an awful feat, can also be useful on those beast attacks with large numbers of dice on single hits.

    Probably good enough to make the list somewhere are the piercing slasher or crusher feats. Elephants, head my gall! What about Mobile? Allows your druid to move in, attack with Shillelagh, and move out of range again. Useful if you have poor armour and only average hit points. Also, you can move normally through your own AoE spells that create difficult terrain. Or Shield Master would let you use your bonus action to shove people back into your AoE spells, and also improve your dexterity saves.

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    2 жыл бұрын

    I guess my hesitance with those would be the lack of Strength on the average Druid to use the shield shove, and that I don't use Shillelagh on my average Druid because I'd rather stay out of the fray (I guess this applies to the shield shove, too) :P Your suggestions are fine/viable if that's how you're playing the character, but I'm not sure I'd place them among my top picks for a Druid generally. I haven't played a Druid to level 20, so maybe I'm mistaken on how much they're in melee?

    @BellatorresRex after reviewing the newer subclasses, I'm gonna standy by my top ten. Some of my top-spot feats are especially good for Moon Druids, but I believe Druid subclasses are generally self-sustained without feats. My descriptions in this video often mentioned Wild Shape scenarios, but they can apply without being a beast. Having said that, here are some ideas I had for Druid subclass feats. Wild Fire: Flames of Phlegethos (Tieflings only) enhances fire abilities and gives you a fire aura. Dreams: Shadow Touched can give some spells that are thematic to the subclass. Telepathic remains a good feat for this subclass thematically. Shepherd: Grappler could be fun to combo with Bear Spirit and a high Strength stat for a Druid. You can also take Elven Accuracy (Elves only) to combo with the Hawk Spirit, but you're not going to be a great attacker as a Druid. I think your allies are comparatively better off with Elven Accuracy.

    Great list. I've used War Caster on my human moon druid since day 1. At level 8 I'm seriously looking at Resilience (CON) for all the same reasons you listed here. Trying to find feats that benefit both the normal form and the wild shape is a feat in and of itself. I wish Mage Armour stacked with natural armour. If it did then Eldritch Adept (Armour of shadows) would be a great choice. I really see no reason why it shouldn't stack other than an artificial "game balance" thing. My wild shaped druid with mage armour added would put the character about equal to the character in human form with studded leather and a shield. Elements, heed my call!

    Druids( along with monks) are the class i have the least experience with. i've only played moon druid in the past and i'm considering playing another moon druid in a future campaign (though i might play another sorc, not decided yet). The top 5 feat choices i'd make though are still similar to most caster classes though some i made due to being a moon druid: 1. telepathic- this is how i'd round out an odd wis. being able to communicate in wild shape imo is essential. 2. resilient con- need to maintain that concen spell while wild shaped. 3. alert- always useful to go 1st so you can gain the defensive benefits of being wild shaped early. 4. martial adept/fighting initiate (superior technique) or sentinel- some beast shapes have interesting riders on their attacks like the giant constrictor snake. giving yourself a way to gain reaction attacks allows you to gain more value from those special attacks if it turns out those beast shapes are your most used shapes. this is also great for action economy as most of the time wild shaped druids aren't doing anything with their reaction. 5. gift of the gem/metallic/chromatic- similar to #4 this maximizes the druid's reaction where they have limited choices since they can't cast spells while wild shaped. this gives them some defensive options for their reaction even while wild shaped.

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    @@FlutesLoot that's fair. i don't take it early either (except on those fighter 2 dips on a caster class and rogues who gain alot of benefit from it by giving themselves an extra off-turn sneak attack per short rest). I'm definitely taking fighting initiate though over something like tough.

    Elements, HEED MY CALL! I just rolled a Circle of the Wildfires Druid and I am playing a tiefling. So I think I'm going to take flames of phlegethos. It adds some pretty good flavor and getting to reroll ones on fire damage is pretty good, also I will have a pretty low AC so the d4 of fire protection helps a little bit in melee as a deterrent. Not sure if this really outranks any of these feats, but a different take on wildfires druid.

    ELEMENTS HEED MY CALL! I don't know for sure but i got the impression that a lot of consideration was given to moondruids. I will be playing a melee focused circle of stars druid and Metamagic adept really caught my eye. Particulary quicken (to bonus action those nice concentration spells and still do something like primal savagery) and transmuted spell (in order to literally control the elements). Eldritch adept gives some more options on making druids more druidy, such as beast speech and eldritch sight ("your senses are so keen you smell magic"). Perhaps i'm whiteboarding way to much.

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    Those are great ideas, too! Picking up Metamagic Adept for Quickened Spell is great if you're using your action to maintain another spell that continuously uses your action each turn. Subtle Spell can help you avoid Counterspell if your campaign has that a common problem. I did consider Wildshape heavily in many of my recommendations.

    Elements, HEED MY CALL! Druids are one of my favorite to play. Unless I am going heavy wild shape and melee, I found that Spell Sniper is one of the best feats to take. Think of charging enemies or a pack of creatures, throw long ranged spells even at low level like moonbeam and spike growth can be massive. If you have a water encounter use heat metal to detonate powered in cannon or flood their ship with attacking fey spirts with conjure animals.

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and commenting, Alex! A few of my recommendations definitely leaned into Wild Shape specialties. I think your DM may have house-ruled how Spell Sniper works. It normally only helps spells that make ranged spell attacks, which Moonbeam and Heat Metal do not do (they force saving throws, they don't roll attacks). I like your ideas regardless of how Spell Sniper works! Spell Sniper won't help most players because only Ice Knife and Produce Flame can benefit from it from the Druid spell list. Yeah, it's just two on the entire Druid spell list that uses ranged spell attack rolls, which surprised me. I'll link to the filter on D&D Beyond at the end of this comment. I don't count Magic Stone because you're not casting it to make a ranged spell attack immediately. www.dndbeyond.com/spells?filter-class=0&filter-class=3&filter-search=&filter-attack-type=2&filter-verbal=&filter-somatic=&filter-material=&filter-concentration=&filter-ritual=&filter-sub-class=

Besides, the reading lips line caught my attention from the first time that I read the PHB, and I would love to use it with a character sometime. I took the Healer feat as my free feat at level 1 (house rule). Since my druid is an astral elf, and they basically get Misty Step prof/ long rest, Fey Touched isn’t calling to me as much. Though, Spell Sniper and the skill feat that gives you a +1 to an ability score and expertise in a skill also sound good.

    I hadn't considered Observant at all. We have a Rogue in our party, but....I WANT to be sneaky, too.... Observant would fit nicely with the sneaky Druid I'm becoming. I have poor stealth, but WildShape makes up for that out of combat. In real life, I'm an ICU Nurse. I'm planning to take Poisoner Feat, because frankly, knowledge of Poisoning (how to treat it, how to do it) is the opposite side of the coin of a real life healer. You can't give medicine if you don't understand toxic reactions, interactions, and how to prevent. You can't give medications if you don't understand how dangerous they are if given improperly or at incorrect dosages. And yeah: I'm chaotic good, but have no qualms about killing enemies. "Observant" with my "Poisoner", while I sneak around doing reconnaissance as a cat or rat, making plans to poison enemies during RP, will make a lot of sense. 😊

For me it is probably War Caster (Keep concentration and opportunity attack spells and full hands spells), Resilient (make the con saves), Telekinetic ( Always use for bonus action and move enemies into AOE and allies away), Fey Touched (Misty Step + Bless or others), Telepathic ( Fun communication also in wildshape), Lucky (Always good), Alert (win initiative and no surprises), Defensive Duelist ( don't have many reactions and can't get shield spell), The rest are probably racial as I don't really rate Healer or Observant. Stuff like ritual caster, elemental adept, spellsniper, mobile or meta magic adept and shieldmaster can probably give more mileage. However all these are far removed from the top 8.

And in doing so as a bonus action it’s essentially a 5ft push away from an enemy so if the enemy doesn’t have more then a 5ft reach u just basically gave them a disengage (good on ally who’s getting low) since “forced” movement does not provoke attack of opps (I put quotations because it’s technically not forced since u choose to fail it but still is). Or u can use it to get someone automatically out of a grapple since anything that would push either one in a grapple auto gets u out of a grapple. So as a bonus action u can auto can auto escape a grapple or can do so for an ally from 30ft away. Using it on an enemy I don’t see as useful. Also the fact that not only is the mage hand invisible but also has a range of 60ft.

    Mage slayer is one of the best for moon druids. Especially if you don’t have a paladin. Someone needs to take out that enemy spell slinger But it’s pretty niche so I get thst it didn’t make the list

    Moonbeam, imo, is strictly better than call lightning. Theyre both an action to use, concentration, and at the same level they deal the same damage. Moonbeam is a better damage type, stays on the battlefield so it can deal damage without needing your action and can be cast in small spaces where call lightning cant fit

    It depends on what I need for the adventuring day. Since Moonbeam is a combat-based spell, I'd choose to prepare other offensive spells like Summon Beast, Spike Growth, or Flaming Sphere. SG would be the usual. Flaming Sphere would be handy against spread-out enemies who may not be moving much. FS uses the bonus action instead of the action, making it easier to justify using for an offensive second-level spell than Moonbeam. Heat Metal is great when it can work. Hold Person could be good against humanoids. I think the only time I'd choose Moonbeam would be if I were using Wild Shape to climb high into the trees and just use my action to move the beam on enemies who couldn't escape fast enough. It probably wouldn't be a regular occurrence.

    Animal Friends, whoop their butts! I have a question regarding to Mage Hand from Telekinetic: can you apply Healer's Kit or Good Berry for fallen buddies by Mage Hand?

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi kwaksea, it's definitely up to your DM, but HK and GB both weigh less than the ten-pound threshold for Mage Hand. As a generous DM, I would say Good Berry yes, but Healer's Kit maybe. I say that because the Healer's Kit is described as bandages, salves, and splints. It would be extremely difficult to use one-handed Mage Hand to apply bandages and splints, but salves might be easy. To me, it might come down to whether or not you're proficient with Medicine, and I might allow this if you were. Great question!

    @@FlutesLoot To be honest, this question would be more helpful to Wizards or Sorcerers since unlike Druids, those two does not have access to Healing Word or Healing Spirit which brings downed allies back to the fight from the distance. I dont think Healing Potion is that heavy

    @@kwaksea I agree. Remember Healing Potions count as magic items, and Mage Hand's spell description says it cannot activate magic items.

    @@FlutesLoot Healing Potions may be "magic items", but since they can be carried and consumed by non-magic users, no additional "activation" should be necessary. If a Mage Hand can deliver Good Berries, I'd think could also deliver & pour a Healing Potion?

  • @FlutesLoot

    @FlutesLoot

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Karina-Loves-Andreas it's one of those weird details where WotC had to classify which items were magical vs other. The Thief Rogue can't use Fast Hands to administer a healing potion because of this distinction. Aside from that, I'd personally be ok with Mage Hand administering a healing potion if it can feasibly be done one-handed (no turning the body over, pulling a stopper, etc).

    havnt finished the video yet, BUT i had to comment so i didnt forget...Im SO tired of people thinking that Druids cant wear metal. THEY CAN. It was confirmed by dnd dev'sin an interview that it was flavor. Druids ABSOLUTLY can wear metal, its just that they dont like to.

    You're right; you can do what you wish (even if game devs had not said so). We have an article all about the lore behind Druids and metal if you're interested www.flutesloot.com/why-druids-dont-wear-metal-armor/. Much of it has roots in Terry Pratchett's writings, though it goes back in history too. Past editions of D&D definitely had this rule for no metal on Druids (I think the current game devs are just picking their battles and they don't care about it). It's evident even in Pokemon when steel types are strong against fairy types. A lot of people choose to not have Druids wear metal for such reasons. It's not really something we debate; it clearly depends on the player/group. Have your Druid wear metal if you want. :)

  • @birubu

    They choose not to because Heat Metal is on their spell list, which means all Druids know what Heat Metal is as part of their Druidic training and how strong that is against metal armor.

    Serpent Scail Armor is very nice for Druids. The more you are willing to put into DEX, the more you can boost your AC. I Max WIS first after starting it at 16. Then I up DEX to 16 after starting it at 12 or 14. Resilience is also very nice for DRUIDS. Any variant race that starts out with a free feat to start, you should grab Resilance. Concentration spells are mandatory when playing DRUID.
