Lion King had 3 major contenders - Can you feel the love tonight?, Circle of Life and Hakuna Matata Aladdin had 2 in Whole New World and Friend Like Me Beauty and the Beast had 2 through its title track and Be Our Guest Little Mermaid with Part of your world and Under the Sea Etc. And thats even leaving out all the great tracks from those movies which are more themed and would never be in real Oscar consideration (e.g. Be Prepared, I Just Can't Wait To Be King, etc)

Gary M6 not to be mean but I believe Beauty and the Beast was nominated 3 times I believe this video mentioned that Belle was also nominated given how many times Alan Menken did win Best Original Song it isn’t suprising to me how many times his music was nominated It was not until this video however that I realized how many times Alan Menken was nominated for the award and was going up against others of his songs from the same movie Even thought Elton John and Tim Rice didn’t do music for as many Disney moves as Alan Menken has I still love there music both in Disney movies like The Lion King Movies and what music they did for Broadway olays Tim Rice has been great with Alan Menken as well as when he worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber Even though some of what I said pertains to Broadway plays and there for don’t fit with this video they are great works done by the people I mentioned and figured it was worth mentioning

"Out There" 100 percent deserved an Oscar. Such an underrated Disney song, and probably my favorite.

I was thrown by this. I thought it definitely should've been higher on the list, and maybe a different song chosen. I feel like "Hellfire" and "Bells of Notre Dame" are more epic and worthy of a nomination. But the score overall is unmatched

"The Prayer" by Celine Dion was also in the running that year. But yeah, either "Reflection" or "I'll Make a Man Out of You" should've gotten a nomination.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Alan Menken is in part responsible for 7 of these songs?? Had some of them won Oscars, he'd have more to add to his collection (which consists of 8!).

He's iconic. He has 4 Best Original Songs under his belt: Under The Sea, Beauty and the Beast, A Whole New World, Colors of the Wind. And a lot more nominations.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a such underrated soundtrack, I think it’s the best work from Alan Menken; and also Feed the birds from Mary Poppins deserves to be mention in this category.

I watch it with my nieces now..they are 4...(twins) and one of them always pretends shes Ariel when they are playing whilst her sister prefers to pretend to be Belle. They even have dress ups of all the Disney princesses ...I am so jealous. I never had that 🤭😉

Kerry Ann my son and daughter dressed up one year for Halloween as Beauty and the Beast and somewhere I still have the pictures of them. My daughter also wore an Ariel costume one time and she always wanted to wear them to preschool. I would always watch the movies with all 3 of my kids and luckily my older daughter’s fiancé has almost all the Disney movies!! So she and I can still watch them over and over and reminisce!!! Now that my youngest daughter has a son, I hope my grandson gets to grow up on those movies that his mom used to watch when she was little!!!😊

Sorry I have so many comments but I also wanted to say that you must be head over heels to have your nieces in your life!! I’m in another state now away from my grandson after living with him for the first year and a half of his life and I miss him like crazy! At least my daughter keeps in touch with me by video calls and I get to see him from time to time. He will be 2 in November and my daughter will be bringing him down here to see me around his birthday!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is so beautiful. You have happiness and sadness perfectly balanced every beat. Tom Hulce and Tony Jay duo is what makes it so special. Even Demi Moore's moment is amazing in this film. I think I still have the original VHS for this film.

Beautiful song but I can’t listen to it. I heard it as a child and it affected me so much bc it made me think what would I do if I couldn’t be with my mom. It like literally scarred me and I still can’t listen to.

Thank you for recognising the masterpiece that is 'I see the light'!! It still pains me how underrated Tangled is compared to the breadth of other Disney films

I feel like “Colors of the Wind” earns its Oscar for Best Original Song considering it’s subject matter is still relevant today with all the racism and bigotry while “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, while not a bad song, is just your typical friendship song with the same message found in other friendship songs. And even if Pocahontas were never to exist, I wouldn’t still pick “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, I’d probably go with either “Kiss from a Rose” from Batman Forever or “Gangsta’s Paradise” from Dangerous Minds.

I was also obsessed with the Little Mermaid when I was young too.

YES! I See the Light made the list!!! So amazing, the whole arrangement! Side Note: Many songs from the Tangled TV series deserve Emmys! They absolutely packed the cast with Broadway singers. Among them: the James Monroe Iglehart, guy who played Genie from the original Aladdin Broadway cast, Jeremy Jordan, who played the lead in the Broadway production of Disney's Newsies; and my personal fav, Eden Espinosa known for being Elphaba in the NA tour of Wicked and Idina Menzel's original understudy for the part. Throw those singers in with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi and Alan Menken's classic song-writing....some very memorable and hard-hitting songs came from that show.

#8 should’ve won and it could’ve made LMM an EGOT. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious should’ve gotten an Oscar because of its originality. And Circle of Life is probably the best beginning song in a movie of all time. But I love all the songs and if we remember them and sing them then it’s all I could ask for.

It is slowly getting the recognition it deserves. Somewhere Walt Disney is smiling because this was his favourite song from a Disney movie. He would insist that the Sherman brothers perform it for him whenever they came to his office. Like you I always get misty eyed when I hear it.

Who else really wants a Disney Live Action version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame? It's like the one Disney film I actually want to see remade. So much you could do with that story, and a lot of it is still really relevant today.

dan white Personally I would prefer a live action of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris; it’s more faithful to the original source material, and the songs are much better than Disney’s adaptation - and I never liked how Disney changed and (cavity-level) edulcorated the finale (to get a PG rating), the original ending is much more poignant.

Everyone dying in the end doesn't automatically make it more poignant in my opinion. I love the original novel for what it is, but the Disney version is a worthy adaption.

dan white More than worthy - The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is one of my top favorite Disney Classics :) - but to me the Disney finale ruined the tone of the story....though, to be honest, having added the characters of Hugo, Victor and Laverne, a darker ending wouldn’t probably have worked. :)

I'm completely about the Hunchback of Notre Dame score, Emily! I love the entire soundtrack (best Disney soundtrack EVER!), but the song "Out There" is a little extra amazing!

when the song from Mulan played (trying not to spoil the video more than necessary), all I was thinking was "HOW IS THIS NOT NUMBER ONE?!" then you played number one and I instantly understood how. MADNESS when it comes to both songs!

Alyssa Black Angela Lansbury is phenomenal, her voice was the perfect match for Mrs. Potts and deserved to get an Oscar.

I felt "we know the way", " know who you are," and "I am Moana" would have been better choices because they are so powerful to the story. Moana may have had a chance with these than "How far I'll go".

I can't believe the Circle Of Life didn't win, man that was the one of many iconic songs when I was growing up from the 1990's(1993) from now!

Oh gosh when she loved me always made me cry when I watched that scene Jessie is one of my favorite characters

That's just a meh song its not oscar worthy

Candle on the Water. I still get chills listening to it. By far one the most beautiful songs Disney ever produced.

"Evermore" was robbed of a nomination. I was so pissed.

"How Far I'll Go" is undeniably an inspirational song but I would still prefer "Reflection" to be in the top 10 instead in honorablr mention.

My favorites are: 1. Bare necessities by Baloo the bear 2. Friend like me by The Genie 3. Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog And 4. Circle of Life Ps here are two songs that they should’ve put on there 1. On my way by Brother Bear And 2. The wonderful thing about Tiggers by Tigger

Make a man out of you from Mulan should have placed in this list. Very underrated...

Circle Of Life is the masterpiece, should have taken the oscar home. What a beautiful epic song.

Reflection surprised me the most. Did reflexion not win anything?

I would do a Broadway version of Disney’sthe hunchback of Notre dame. The music is incredible

"Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas

Let it be mentioned that Thomas Hulce's ("Animal House", "Amadeus") superb singing voice made "Out There" a goosebump-inducing track. I think "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is one of their best animated and highly underrated features. It's one of my favorites. If they ever make a live action of this, I can see Tim Burton directing it.

I'd hate to see Burton direct this. I'd prefer the guy who directed the movie musical of Les Miserables. The books were by the same author as well.

I was a part of a small 9 people theatre group a couple of years ago and We did "Belle" from Beauty and The Beast. I played Lefou and it was an amazing experience! Love that song!

The Lion King have one of the most epic intros in movie history. It says so much with the song and images right before the title. And it's beautifully animated.

Friend Like Me deserves an award. Robin Williams was hilarious but damn could he sing. The song deserves it’s place among the great’s. And is a fitting tribute to Robin because we never had a friend quite like him.

In my personal opinion: 1. Circle of Life - The Lion King 2. Reflection - Mulan 3. I'm Still Here - Treasure Planet 4. When She Loved Me - Toy Story 2 5. Barking At The Moon - Bolt 6. I See The Light - Tangled 7. Down In New Orleans - The Princess and the Frog 8. Little Wonders - Meet The Robinson's 9. Bare Necessities - The Jungle Book 10. Immortals - Big Hero 6

I never get tired of any part of the ‘Lion King’ soundtrack. The beauty of how Elton John, Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer all created the greatest songs of the ‘90s Disney cannon. And then there were the brilliant songs of Alan Menken during the period also

Great list, and as someone who grew up with The Muppets I appreciate the shout out to Kermit the Frog and Rainbow Connection. But The Muppets were their own separate entity at the time. Disney didn't purchase them from Jim Henson until 1989.

I think My Heart Will Go On won because of Titanic's popularity and the radios playing it 10000 times a day...

MY Top 7! 7. Life's A Happy Song (The Muppets, 2011) 6-5. Let Me Be Good To You/Goodbye So Soon (The Great Mouse Detective, 1986) 4. Tomorrow Is Another Day (The Rescuers, 1977) 3. Once Upon A Wintertime (Melody Time, 1948) 2. Baby Mine (Dumbo, 1941) 1. Part Of Your World (The Little Mermaid, 1989) (This song > Under The Sea!)

The Little Mermaid did wonders for Disney. It was the start of the Disney Renaissance. All the songs are still popular but Part Of Your World has always had more feeling to it and it’s the song that really stood out more. It should have been nominated and won!

I think "We Know the Way" was soooo much better than How Far I"ll Go"

Plus from a musical standpoint it's written better. "How Far I'll Go" literally doesn't do any resolutions till the very end which musically is the most annoying thing ever.

How could “You’ve Got a Friend Like Me” not even be considered. It is one of the sweetest Disney movies ever,

I don’t know why, but Circle of Life moves me to tears each time I hear it. It’s the most MAGNIFICENT song Disney has ever released!

"The Hunchback score is a masterpiece people!" I wish I could give this video a thousand thumbs up!!

Thank you for that nod the OUTSTANDING soundtrack of Hunchback of Notre Dame!!! The movie in it of itself is SOOOOOO underrated simply because people felt that it was too dark for Disney and that Disney should ONLY be "kid-friendly" and nothing else (pfff). But I showed this movie to my college roommates for the first time and they ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE MOVIE AND THE SCORE!!!!! This movie deserves FAR MORE praise and credit than what it gets!!!

I'm Still Here from Treasure Planet should've been nominated and won an Oscar. It was actually considered, but it ended up getting snubbed instead for some reason.

@@1992disney Cause it is Eminem, maybe? And Em is a "rap songs genius"? I don't know how to explain this, but even WatchMojo said that this song is 2nd best song to win at Oscars only behind "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz, beating such beasts as "My Heart Will Go On", Disney Rennisance winners, etc. Just saying.
