    I miss them too. In fact, for most of animation's history, 2D, or traditional animation was the dominant form of animation until the late 1990s or early 2000s. The Hunchback of Norte Dame is such a beautiful movie and it’s so underrated... it might be darker than a lot of the others from the renaissance but it’s so much more developed and really deserves more love than it gets. It would be interesting to learn about the history of the movie, why it’s so much darker (wasn’t it at a time when they were adopting classic novels such as Treasure Island?) and why it didn’t do well. I wouldn't necessarily say "The Emperor's New Groove" ended the Disney Renaissance. "Tarzan" is generally considered the last renaissance movie, and it breaks form by not having any characters sing. KZreadr Sideways argued that this is why the renaissance ended. The first post-renaissance (or experimental) movies were "Fantasia 2000" and "Dinosaur." "Emperor's New Groove" was only the third in this series of films, so I wouldn't place any real blame on it for the end of the renaissance.

I also studied animation for a few years after I got my degree in graphic design... Your explanation of the Disney Renaissance is possibly the best of any professor that I had. Your ability to analyze visuals that drive the story is brilliant and so easy to understand. I don't think it's hard to realize that part of the Disney Renaissance was getting back to a musical foundation, but I loved listening to you talk about Menken and how he was truly a driving force in the Disney Renaissance. I've been a long time watcher (mostly for Harry Potter videos) but I think this was my favorite video you guys have put out 👍👍👍

    I firmly believe that Howard Ashman and Alan Menken were just as responsible for Mermaid’s success than anyone else. Ashman, in particular, pushed very hard for his songs to be pushed to the forefront. He wasn’t just the songwriter. He was very involved in the creative process. Let’s face it, The Little Mermaid would be nothing without its songs. It’s so sad that Ashman passed away before he could see Beauty and the Beast to its completion. I wonder what the Renaissance would have sounded like had he lived. Still, we have Alan Menken who is an absolute treasure and has created some of the most iconic melodies put to screen. Goodness, they were a great duo. RIP, Howard Ashman 💕💕💕

  • @russellallison26
    @russellallison264 жыл бұрын

    I enjoyed this but you forgot to mention the great Howard Ashman and how important he was in setting the tone at the beginning of the Renaissance. He was the original lyricist, book writer and partner of Alan Mencken for Little Shop of Horrors, both Broadway musical and movie. When they came to work for Disney he rescued the floundering (pun intended) production of Little Mermaid and become a driving creative force for pairing of animation and broadway style musical. He led story meetings and brought in voice actors with broadway vocal abilities who were also great character actors. He’s the one who chose to model Ursula after the drag queen Divine. He instilled many of the common tropes like the “I want” songs which became iconic in so many movies. He worked on Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and contributed to Aladdin before he died tragically young from AIDS. I also believe that he was responsible for bringing back to life the dying embers of the musical as a popular genre which had been in its own dark ages.

    I think I've watched the 2 hour behind the scenes of Aladdin more than the movie itself. I love it, and want just the behind the scenes of all the Renaissance films in a collection for easy access. For example: the animators used the Arabic-style lines to draw everything. Jasmine's animator used a school picture of his sister as inspiration and she sewed herself and her kids themed costumes that Halloween, herself as the original Jasmine.

    In a fix, in a bind, Call on us anytime, We'll appear from nowhere, Mighty are we! I'll always know how to spell "rescue" til the day I die. One of the very first films that I ever saw in the theater was the re-release of "The Rescuers" back in the 1980s. I still think "The Rescuers Down Under" is better than "The Lion King."

    Most of the popular movies since 1977 have been written by one ghostwriter. His birthday is Nov.16, 1976 and he was A child prodigy. He wrote songs, TV series, movies, books, comics and videogame concepts Ect. There were four more Harry Potter books planned but certain goals had not been met so the writer postponed them indefinitely. The first movie, videogame and Fantastic Beasts U.S. release dates are all on Nov.16! Back to the Future and Harry Potter are also linked in various ways. Yada...yada...yada...

    Disney theory: What if the new animated movies by Disney coming out are loose reimaginings of each of the Disney Renaissance movies? Hear me out. The most obvious one would be Moana. It's definitely a reimagining of Hercules if this theory is correct. They are both set in mythology, with a demigod character that is extremely strong, and both have the very similar "How far I'll go/Go the Distance" songs (great mashup of the two: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYZmptmvpbbelNo.html ). Next would be Big Hero 6. This may be a stretch to some but I think it is The Lion King. Both main characters have a close relative who is killed by a seeming accident that ends up actually being plotted by the main villain. They both make a team of friends that aren't used to being heroes in order to take him down at the end. Lastly, Zootopia would probably be Mulan. Both have a strong female lead character who defies social rules in order to pursue the path they want to and fight using their own equally powerful but different skills. I have no idea which one Frozen would be lol. Can y'all think of any others? Do you have any critiques of this theory? Comment and let me know!

    Lilo and Stitch... Leaving Lilo and Stich, the Franchise, to Die, was one of the biggest Mistakes they ever made. That's an objective fact, which you would know as such if you knew enough about the subject. But whatever, not being educated about this one thing aint a sin, i guess... or maybe it is, but that's not the point. THE POINT IS: This Franchise hadnt tired itself out, at all. So it should be Revived for Real. Countless People wait for it. Trust me, they do. We do.

    Wow, two Disney Renaissance related videos in a span of a day. The first from Network1901 and now the SuperCarlinBrothers. 13:28-13:42 - And Couldn't agreed with you more ever since Wreck-It Ralph and ESPECIALLY Frozen, Disney has been shoehorning the Plot-Twist villain trope in EVERY Animated film these days where it just becomes repetitive, and overdone and you can thank Pixar's influence (mainly John Lasseter) for making Disney Animation Studios utilizing this in their films these last 6 years. Sometimes it works (e.g. King Candy) other times it becomes TOO obvious and cliched (e.g. Hans, Callaghan). 😑 I'm Hopeful, that future Disney animated films from Walt Disney Animation Studios will bring back the classic Disney villain from the Renaissance era, cause we haven't had a classic Disney villain since Dr. Facilier and Mother Gothel. Thank you so much. Hope you do one on the post-renaissance and the Disney Revival era soon. #DisneyRenaissance
