Troy was an historical travesty.

My wife HATES action movies. I told her about Apocalypto with a promise that its something very different and she was simply mind blown and absolutely loved it. Our favourite scene being when Jaguar Paw's wife gives birth. SUPERB!!

Master and Commander is a Real Gem. The characters are Real and human with great performances even in supporting roles. Action and anticipation are Well balanced, even historically it is quite accurate. A definite Watch.

My favourites: 1. The king 2. Alexander the great 3. Kingdom of heaven 4. Gladiator 5. The patriot 6 Troy

"The admiral" is one of the best movie for historical and sea war ever made !

This is very nice list. Thank you. I would liked add the movie , Empire of the Sun. By Stephen Spielberg. It was also very high-quality movie in every aspect.

Unfortunately I had already watched all of them except one...all movies are very good those who loves these kinds of old era films should watch.

Excited for upcoming Napoleon film?

My favorite genre of movies..! My 3 favorites from this list….. Master & Commander is one of my all time favorite movies…A true historical masterpiece Downfall is brilliant as well with some 1st class acting. Apocalypto …. I thought was well done & a nice look at a period of history that you don’t see too often.

I'd throw in Taegukgi. Its about two brothers fighting in the Korean War. Also Indigènes and Joyeux Noel. The first is about a company of Algerian soldiers in WWII and the second is about the Christmas Truce during WWI.

Mine too! 100% innacurate but even the fact that the whole film is in Yucateco and all of the actors are native American is a huge step forward!

As an archeology student in Italy, I can guarantee you 100% that the first king is absolutely accurate. From weapons, to language and dressing is pitch point perfect. Say whatever you want about the plot, it's obviously false

As an archaeology graduate in Italy, i can say it's not. But it's a nice movie anyway.

I was watching this and getting ready to write angrily expecting you not to have included Master and Commander …but you did include it. The most under rated film of all time (despite winning Oscars)

Good list, and I discovered some I hadn’t heard of and since I agree with the ones I’ve seen being on it I have high hopes for the others. Das Boot (The Boat), Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down, Generation Kill, and (probably) The Outpost should have made the list.

13th Warrior was AMAZING!

Master and Commander has crept onto my shawshankish rewatch regardless of when my last viewing occurred.

Outlaw king was excellent watched it last night

"The Mill and the Cross" ... Rutger Hauer .... mesmerizing.

Could you create a list of medieval movies to watch, make sure to include the Northman 😉

The King on Netflix was a very good film as well.

Excellent list.

Can’t stand Damon or Affleck but Last Duel was pretty good. Kylo Ren stole the show.

The Spartacus series on HBO was also amazing. Right up there with the 300 movie series.

My list would be Troy, Master & Commander, Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, the King, Outlaw King, Braveheart, Robin Hood (russel crowe), the Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, The Last Samurai are top amongst others.

Nice job, except your #1 pick could have been moved way down your list. (Or off completely). You did not include Gladiator, which could easily have been #1. Still, thank you for your selections.

Boudica was excellent. I would add that one to your list. You should do one on women.

I've seen all of these movies ! :D I add The Three Kingdom by John Woo, the chinese version so 3 movies, not the american one movie. Requiem for a massacre, this one on the top, a soviet movie about the WW2, so hard that you watch it only once in your life. Merry Christmas, a french movie about WW1, French and German Soldiers didnt want to fight on that day, real story.

Outlaw king is absolutely GOLD

Yes Dirilis Ertugrul is but Not Kurulus Osman the director of ertugrul series made Osman series a love story.Always female scenes in Kurulus Osman. Even the Awakening the great seljuk series is better than kurulus Osman

Please make more of these. There is no more good history movies/shows!!!! It’s all Hollywood now

What about Midway ( both 1976 and 2019 movies ), Tora! Tora! Tora!, and I can't believe Gettysburg was left out. Obviously there are too many to fit in a list of 10, but I feel Gettysburg should have topped your list. Very historical movie. Gettysburg had 89% audience score on Rotten tomatoes. Scored a 7.6 on IMdB.

@@craigmcdougall755 I have no idea how the movies in the video were picked. I would of had a much different list, but this list belongs to whomever made this video and I respect their picks. No harm in mentioning the ones we thought would be better. You said 'Glory' and I agree that would have been an important historical movie, but as you see there are no civil war movies on the top ten list of this video. Not Gettysburg, Not Glory, Not even God's and Generals. I'd probably have all three on my list, but I guess that would be too many American historical movies.

@@CornelisCees I mentioned it because the video is about historical movies. As far as the original Midway versus the 2019 version, I prefer the original. No way the cast of the 2019 version compares to the star studded cast of the original. And the authenticity of the original is far better and more accurate.

Hulu and FX will release a newer version of the Shogun Series in February 2024. Based on the popular Shogun novel. Looks very promising.

Apocalypto is sick a great movie

The Great Battle was not mentioned here but I highly recommend it.

What about a" Tears of sun " Bruce willis.. I think that was amazing

I have seen 2 out of the 10. My all time favorite is the Gladiator, but I would like to mention and recommend "The Legend of Tomiris" (2019) which is I think quite underrated. Maybe it's just my opinion, because I am obsessed with that era and strong women.

Gladiator? One of the worst. We are speaking about history in the 10 movies listed in the video, not entertainment. Whether the 10 movies depict history accurrately, there are books and the Internet, and for us to find out. Gladiator has is consumerism.

Spartacus (Kirk Douglass movie, not the TV series) was better and more historically accurate than Gladiator IMO.

"braveheart" really ??? braveheart was a fantasy it was FAR from realistic. it depicts scots of the time to be wearing skirts when in reality they were armored knights. i think of "The Outlaw King" as a BUG FIX for Braveheart

Just seen it recently. Sure had some great fight scenes in it that's for sure. Reminded me of the series ........ 'The Last Kingdom'. Which is one of my personal favorites. Check it out if you haven't already.

@@iuseutube89 There's a sequel movie to The Last Kingdom series titled The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die , to be released on April 14, 2023 as a Netflix original. That five season series of The Last Kingdom was one of the best series I ever seen.

Interesting list. Glory was left out and should be near the top of the list. Interesting there are absolutely no movies featuring women, much less passing the Bechdel test. One great older one is Mary Queen of Scots with Glenda Jackson and Vanessa Redgrave.

Best Fantasy Classics to be sure.

I have seen most of these. Apocalypto is such a different movie from what we are used to and I loved it. Master and commander also an epic movie. I still need to watch Downfall and The Last Duel

The Viking series was a History Channel series. The Last Kingdom and Vikings Valhalla (history following the Viking series) were on Netflix. Great Viking and Saxon series.
