#Tool #ToolReaction #ThePot
In this #ToolsDay edition of #TheDailyDoug, I'm listening to The Pot from their 2006 album 10,000 Days. I was blown over by the intensity and directness of the social commentary in this song as well as the performance. Come along for the ride, y'all!

I just want to wish EVERYONE who follows Doug and his family aswell all the best in 2022! It's why I love his page so much. We've had some tough times lately(that's everyone not just me) and that's why this page matters! You've got a great guy here, who if not everyday, every other day has mountains of information for me! Unleashes my inner Nerd for just a breather in this temperamental world, I clear the air and my mind. DOUG RELIEVES STRESS for us! He says, "Hey ya'll, welcome back!" And it's always good being back, Getting interested, Getting the gears spinning for what WE want to contemplate. It's not about the job/economy/politics/the real world. It's just about really great music and tools we can use to inspire our own writing!🎵🖤🖤🖤🎵 Congratulations on everything Doug, and continued growth in the new year!👏👏👏👏👏

It's pretty badass (and baffling - to me) how so many people within the last couple of years are finally getting an introduction to Tool. I bought Undertow on my 13th birthday - which was 12 days after its release - and they have been my favorite band since. This might sound weird, but I actually get enjoyment out of watching people react to Tool for the first time. And as for most of Maynard's lyrics, they're written so the listener gets their own interpretation. Find an interpretation that's relevant to you (when applicable). Try to be a better person today than you were yesterday. Doug, I am now a fan of your channel lol. So keep going. The more you listen, the more you'll appreciate Tool's music.

The solo is a bass solo, playing bending harmonics, through an amp with distortion, a wah pedal and some feedback. Reminds me of Cliff Burton (R.I.P.). You might notice the absence of the bass in the rythym during this section. Actually two sections when he does the "Waaaa-ooooo" part right before the big break. Badass. \m/

Just one thing: right when you are talking about them keeping a straight 4/4 around 9:23, there is a polyrhythmic thing going on in the background: the whole band is on 4/4 together, and then the kick drum starts to play a 3/8 pattern on top of it. :)

greetings, m'man... You may be interested to note: that "phased meter" (meters of different lengths overlaying, and overlapping, and phasing through each other all over the place) sound, which is certainly a big (If not the biggest) Tool mainstay, is derived directly from "King Crimson"... a shining example of that about which I speak would be the piece titled "frame by frame" on the 'crimson album "discipline": clear as day at several points- one guitar is doing a seven, then a unison track splits off, throwing in a bar of six every other time, and cycles all the way through like that... so now you've got this long cycle... um, Well... thirteen "measures" long if you were the one doing the seven... If you were the other one... one could think about it any number of ways; take your pick, I don't care. the aforementioned album, plus the 'crimson albums "beat" and "three of a perfect pair" are actually where most of the obvious examples are. the only example of this type of rhythmic scheme in nature that I'm aware of would be the Balinese Gamalon Orchestra. perhaps a tiny bit in the music of South India. of course, there is the big one- most of the music of Africa and derivatives thereof... which as you will know is a vast landscape; a fact that is difficult to overstate- "poly-meter" is usually experienced in much shorter cycles though. but in a way that's the only technical difference. The Gamalon- I think that's where Fripp (of King Crimson) said he got it... Or else I just imagined that part because it's the only obvious place... It's been years. I speak of this "origin of "that Tool sound"" as fact, simply because Maynard explained all of this in detail at a concert that I was at. Maynard elaborated with hyperbole and props to the "elder band", who had in fact just opened for them. yes, you read that correctly... a lot of people thought that was odd. It was however strangely fitting... or perhaps not "strangely" just that I can't explain it clearly myself. It's in keeping with Fripps' philosophy of understating himself I guess. at the time (the cretaceous), as a crazy fan of both bands, I could hardly believe my luck at seeing such a show... Peace be upon you, sir.

Adam Jones loves that drop D tuning ergo much Tool D minor. I feel it is a kind of limitation to his playing, but he does it quite well. If you are going to partake this is the song to do it to. Try Passage to Bangkok by Rush (2112) another weed friendly song. Tool would sometimes open their concert with the opening Passage to Bankok riff.

It truly is a "perfect" song. Slow build with a soft, timid (scared?) vocal that builds and builds with anger and frustration until Maynard loses his shit at the end and the rest of the band come in with guns blazing (see what I did there?: ). No one, and I mean NO ONE Has mastered the crescendo the way TOOL has! One of the few straight funk beats from Danny and Justin but Danny throws that polyrhythm in at the end with the double kick off beat triplets. Awesome, awesome song and one of my favorites to play on drums!

Love this song. It's the one I usually play to people who have never heard Tool before, as I find it's one of their most instantly accessible tracks. Maynard's vocal performance on this is awesome.

No way!! My band just started playing this song! That riff at the last 20 seconds of the song is so heavy. It is always a good day when we are listening to Tool, but this song in particular. 👌
