My daughter is a classical musician (violin/piano/others) and she told me that at first she didn't like Pneuma compared to other Tool songs, saying it was "a bit too repetitive" but she listened to it again and decided she should analyze it as a "percussion concerto" and in that light it was "very very good". Whenever I can get my daughter to say any of "dad's music" is good, it's a win.

Yeah, I'll sometimes play my 90's grunge favorites on acoustic guitar in the living room and she'll humor me by filling in the solos on her violin or snatch the chords out of the air and accompany on piano, but I can tell it's kind of boring for her compared to Chopin or Debussy. She definitely appreciates TOOL though. @@uns33n

@kencoxdesign I always kinda feel bad for people that instantly intellectualize music. I fear that they have forgotten to just feel/enjoy the music sometimes. Like what does it make you feel rather than what does the note selection say you should feel (according to convention)

@@uns33n In my daughter's defense, the first time she sight-read her way through Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 3 in B Major, she said it was so beautiful it made her cry. Meanwhile, you take any of the drummers most people would mention and have THEM drum this song and they would be very hard-pressed, I'm sure of it.

I watched this drum cam before, I swear the overwhelming feeling that I feel (no pun intended) almost makes me cry. The bridge in this song reminds me of a storm, starts really peaceful but as it plays further it gradually builds the power, and this very extended crescendo on the drum part combined with a switch between synth and guitar, really brings me somewhere far far away from my reality, almost like a trans.

Danny plays a hybrid drum kit. He has both acoustic and electronic drum equipment. He tends to have all acoustic cymbals, but the drums tend to be a mixture. The snare drum you mention is electronic, but it is much higher-end than most you would see out there. That pad has the capability to sense where and how hard he hits notes on the pad and the rim, giving him the ability to do cross-stick, rimshots, ghost notes, etc. just like on an acoustic drum. Something that drummers often notice is how his hi-hat is in the middle of the kit (versus to his left ), using a remote pedal setup. That is very ergonomic because it allows him to play open-handed (his arms aren't crossed over) the majority of the time.

@DawidUliczny-ro7eo exactly my point. You or I may not be able to play the way he does regardless of equipment, but the way his kit is set up contributes greatly to his playing because the comfort and efficiency allow for longer playing and seemless movements.

I love the facials as people experience this performance for the first time. First, it's legitimately impressed, then confused, then just downright frustrated that this rock drummer is so insanely good.

just saw them for the second time in ten years in november. justin really has to wave the tightness out of his arms after a while, and no wonder. he's by far the most underappreciated member of this phenomenal band. what his hands have to do to make this music is almost completely unbelievable. so many crazy repetitive motions to make these songs sound right.

YES YES YES! Their best song. I think it's hard to top this one together with Invincible. These songs are pure magic to me. Everything in these two songs make sense. How they each dive into their instruments and utilize everything is from out of this world. You guys made my day by reacting to this masterpiece! Keep'em coming you guys are awesome!

The beautiful of this video is Richard smiling in awe to this masterpiece. Danny in his tastiest mood in this song, you can only smile with his fills and grooves. In 9:38 lies my favorite fill of them all.
