Before we head off on another epic road trip in our 40 ft Bus Conversion, we decide it is time to clean the grey tank. Oh boy is it a dirty job of RV living. With cold temps coming we also decided it was time to install a diesel heater to cope with below freezing temperatures.

In our quest for seeking out a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we made a plan that includes zero waste living, tiny home living and full-time travel. We considered buying an RV, looked at trailers and airstreams but settled on doing a bus conversion for our off-the-grid, tiny house on wheels. We bought a 1996 MCI 102 D3 coach bus and with the Bus Demolition and Interior Shell complete, we turned it into our Tiny Home on Wheels and are now traveling!

    glad you got your diesel heater working, even if you forgot to put the cap on it in the first test, Lol. The cleaning of the gray water tank was more work and I am glad that I couldn't smell it. Have a wonderful week.

    Great addition. Looking into doing the same for an alternative heat source. Which heater did you purchase? Also, do you have heat tape on your water plumbing lines to prevent freezing? Curious to learn from you. Thanks

    Question why didn’t you just get your mini splits that where ac and heaters just asking

  • @Rehabit8

    @Rehabit8

    They are! AC, heater, fan and dehumidifier. But the outdoor unit can’t function in temps below freezing apparently. Also if you are boondocking it’s good to have different ways to heat and not solely rely on electric heat. If it’s cold, grey and we aren’t pulling in a lot of solar then we can use the diesel heater. We do the same with cooking. We like to use the sun to power things most of the time but we have back ups to heat and cook.
