We are back on the road and ready to leave Texas . . . but that same shifting issue we thought we had resolved is back and providing one of the most tense couple of days of travel with limited power. With a mechanic we trust in Las Cruses, New Mexico, we push the bus to limp through 2 days of driving to see if we can finally get to the root of what keeps causing the issue.

I've been a long distance truck driver for 33 years racking up around 4 million miles. I've had some bad experiences with fuel at cheap no name fuel stop. And more than a couple of Pilot & Flying J's. The cheap stations, the problem is more often water in the fuel. But the fix is the same. Replace the fuel filter. Just a hint, if you experience clogged fuel filters again, consider upgrading to a Davco filter. The housing is clear, allowing you to see the fuel and filter element. As the filter clogs, the fuel level rises. So you'll know to change it.
This same thing has happened to us, twice. The first time was a $500 tow bill home. The filters inside the tank of our shuttlebus conversion were clogged, so we dropped the tank to do the repair. The second time was this past winter. It got way colder this year in So AZ and condensation got into the tank and gummed up the fuel system. We've owned the bus since 2019 and have never had this problem. lol Get a few extra fuel filters and change them out every 1-2k miles until you only see fuel in the filters. Glad it wasn't the transmission, I thought the same thing was wrong the first time this happened to us.
We have a zf not an Allison transmission in our MCI. Yet when our fuel filters gave us issues the transmission was the first thing that seemed to fail. After replacing the fuel filters the transmission thankfully never acted up again. Good luck!
I was just where you guys are a few weeks ago letting the grandbabies play at white sands :)
Those chunks of junk will get you every time!! Glad the bus is running right again. Hope there aren't any more issues and that you're beginning to know what to watch for to help keep things smoother moving forward. Also, glad the mechanic shop is a quieter place to sleep.

I hope so too
you got to shift down on the hill. Never lug a Detroit. Also, when your fuel filter gets dirty you will lose mass power. This is why I sold my MCI and sit in my 1972 international load star. Gas motor. I worked on my bus a lot in 22 years. Never give up. Learn your bus. Its Home. Remember to pray..
Balmoreah ( pronounced bâl-morāy) has a beautiful state park with a nature spring fed swimming pool. I am glad that you made it to Las Cruces.
One other thing to have your mechanic look at is grounds for the Trans and the control unit I had a couple tow trucks that had the same engine solved the problem by adding separate grounds and always carry at least 2 extra fuel filters over the years the extra filters have saved my on more one occasion
Also as truck and buses get older the fuel hoses degrade and brake down and pieces brake away and clog fuel line i had that problem on my kenworth t2000 had to replace all fuel lines
I wasn't expecting you to still be having problems with your gear changing. I really hope that this has now been fixed for a long time. I was holding my breath when I saw that you were doing hill climbs.
My favorite place to explore. New Mexico!
That Anker sounds awesome. I will have to look into possibility getting one when I hit the road. Good luck on the repairs and finding a solution to the transmission/fuel issue. Oh, and congrats on checking off another bus life experience…boondocking at a mechanic shop.🤨🤷♀️😁

I love watching your videos I just hope you both get your bus fixed I am praying for you 🙏 both that you will get it fixed love you guys
Sending all the good vibes that the fuel filter issue solves the problem. Dave said that restriction in the fuel supply is like blocking there arteries to your heart--the life blood. He always changed our diesel fuel filters twice as often as Ford recommended while we were on the road FT. Awesome that the meditation is still making such a difference!!😎🙏🤗

Always a very interesting video, thanks !!
Love the beard Don, real suits you,. You look a lot like Kenny Rogers. xx
There is also an algae that will grow in diesel fuel. Could of been in a fuel tank that you got fuel at.
Sounds like you guys have an algae growth problem in your tank. You need to A fuel conditioner, And a Algae growth inhibitor along with a fuel cleaner in your tank over the next couple Fill ups and change your fuel filters regularly until you were sure you have remove the algae growth from the tank it is because diesel has the ability to retain water and your fuel tank is a dark moist environment
After I sent the message you talked about shifting it manually
Its amazing what fuel filters can cause! Thats crazy it wouldn't shift up and I was thinking; like you that its a trans issue. I think in the video you guys did great not losing it (at least that's what we can see) as I'm a worry wort. What a great mechanical shop, very few anymore as most want to just start swapping parts on your dime!!! Wish you both well........

It is great when you find a good mechanic isn't it!
I think you need to work your way over to Tennessee and go see Scott Crosby at Bus Grease Monkey. He'll get that bus straightened out.
I drove a 1988 volvo highway truck same transmission they have selonid problems
This really seems like a throttle position sensor issue and inconsistency with the readings. I would check to ensure the throttle is going to full power and than the sensor is reading properly.
You guys just aren't' shifty enough. Seriously though, I hope this won't be an ongoing problem.

Ha ha! Us too!
Greetings again from NE Indiana, the weather is starting to get warmer here, time to get my RV ready. Have a safe trip, I hope the filters do the job for you.
สวัสดีครับ❤❤❤ไทยแลน
You know this might be dumb but maybe you need to change the shifter itself I don't know much about mechanics but it seems like the shifter is the problem everything else you done have not worked why not try that!
Time for some Bio treatment- I always buy fuel at Flying J- the last 30 year
Hi Don and Mela, I wonder how much it would cost for a new transmission for that Bus!
When did you change transmission filter and transmission fluid
Are you putting fuel conditioner and cleaners in fuel tanks
I've seen
Have you tried shifting it manually

Hello 😊
👍
hearing about your Allison tranny problems brings to mind this video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4yLksSxj7LVoZc.htmlsi=hQLkQyMKUWZjwT56) ...I chuckle every time I view it. I also have a 40 ft. Airstream motorhome (2004) built on a Freightliner chassis with a Cat 3126 engine and a 6 speed Allison. I hear that the actual push button assembly often goes bad, but whatever the problem, turn your problems into adventures and learning experiences.....All the Best.....Russell D.
Hey, is it possible your bus has a combustion leak? I mean a vacuum hose is loose or the head gasket is blown.
Time Stamp 8:10. Is the Problem in the Engin? Boost leak? Something like that? Wish I could help. Sorry. Time Stamp 18:24. From watching other videos. It has become clear that biologicals can grow inside diesel tanks. Might be worth a look.
Und was ist mit denn Bus läuft er wieder Reibungslos? Schöne Grüße aus Deutschland
