Broke my neck. Edit; was around 17 tried to fs boardslide down a flat bar, not knowing my idiot friend waxed a metal rail, the board slipped and I woke up in the hospital with a neck brace. Fucked me up, bad for life. Barely made it in the army and now I have chronic scoliosis.

It's tough watching videos like this because it's like vicariously watching tony become self aware of not only the end of his career but the end of his ability to skate. It's an inevitability but heartbreaking to watch it go down. Thanks Tony for everything you've done for Skateboarding, I don't skate anymore but my life wouldn't have been the same without the games, the videos and trick tips that you contributed.

He ain't done yet sir. I guarantee you. I'm a physical therapist for older adults and a skater. This man ain't going down yet. Inevitably our muscles get weaker with age but the longer you push, the longer you will keep it, well up until weeks/months of death. Will he be skating exactly the same? Maybe not. Will he still be better than most of us? Most likely.

It's tough but it has only made me admire him far more. The fact he's facing such existentially terrifying experiences so openly, viscerally and vulnerably while still reminding people both of the importance to continue doing what you love but respect the changing tides of life is maybe his most important gift to us all.

@@wyattchew9996 yes, especially when you realize skating itself has never been just specifically about how "good" you are or a competition with others. It's a self achievement or battle with the self, and a lot of it is driven with passion, that doesn't rely on how "bad" or "good" a person is doing, but how they are experiencing that battle with themselves.

I broke my foot this past June in a skating accident. I have an extra bone in the back of my heel called the Os Trigonum which made healing really hard. But seeing Tony keep working and fighting (plus the story of Lizzie's mega ramp slam) really keeps me going to heal up. I am finally able to walk fairly normally! now it's all strength building on my right foot.

I’m 36 and luckily able to stay pretty injury-free still. The one thing I know attributes to it is maintaining a strength training program. Whether it’s lifting weights or calisthenics, that with stretching and mobility just helps promote longevity and prevent injuries. Ain’t getting any younger so we gotta implement this at least 2-3 times a week. Keep shredding tho

Inspiring. Played hoops more than 35 years. Twisted my wrist, ankle. Broke my nose, slipped disc lumbar and cervical area. Would still be playin at 56 but my c23, 45,67 ,T1 are so messed up my doctor told me to stopped. I cant run anymore becoz the disk would flare up. I do ride my bike with my neck brace just around 30mins. The exercise i do regularly is lying down and doing dumbell press with a towel beneath my neck. Sports is life to me regardless of my age. Man, i miss my youth so much playing hoops everyday. Never regreted going hard even with all the issues i have.

It must be hard when you spent most of your youth without a major injury and then age catches you out. Healing takes way longer after 40. Im 48 now, but had a lot of bone breaks in youth. It heals well and quickly in your teens to 20's though. My collar bone is twice the thickness of my other one from a drunken high speed crash on a bmx. I skated the next day with a broken wrist when i was 14. My friend loaned me a wrist guard and we cut the heavy hospital cast off. I slept with the wrist guard on instead. 😂 Breaks when your young feel like they set back stronger but ache badly now with age. I can literally tell what the weather will be tomorrow by which bone aches the most.

I had a "tib fib" (broken tibia and fibula) in my left leg almost 30 years ago. I ended up with a titanium rod in my leg for about 18 months. Had to have it removed because it was causing me pain when ever the barometric pressure changed rapidly. I remember one day I was walking back to my office on the campus of SDSU, and I collapsed in pain. It was early spring and a high pressure system had developed with Santa Ana winds.
