Every time I see a video on KZread that criticises Tony Abbott it seems that his supporters come out of the woodwork to defend him in the comments. I've got friends and acquaintances from all different walks of life but I'm yet to have a real life conversation with a single person that will own up to voting for him.

You guys do realise that the only reason Tony Abbott is doing these things is because Labour wasted all of the money John Howard had saved. You'd have to be mental to want those clowns back in. Give him a chance, he can't be worse than Gillard or Rudd.

Some people don't seem to understand that Australia was in 0 debt when gfc hit.. Labor got us into 200billion plus debt so we didn't feel the hit like other countries.. It was a smart move but we where only able to do that because we had 0 debt to start with thanks to liberal.. It's time to pay the money back.. If another gfc was to hit hard in our current financial position it wouldn't be so pretty!

We'll we should attempt to reduce our deficit. But the opinion among the economic experts is that there is no debt emergency and gradually reducing debt while investing in the future is what we should do. However this is all besides the point. Even if we did need to take drastic steps to reduce it quickly it is obviously wrong to do so by making the poorest 20% make a sacrifice towards towards doing so that is $1.2 billion more per year for the next four years than the richest 20%. Yet this is what the Abbott government has done. Punishing the poor and middle class while benefiting the rich. Perks for the rich like capital gains, family trust funds, and tax-free super which cost the tax payer billions of dollars each year left untouched while cuts and new taxes are laid on rest of the country. It is straight forward class warfare on a scale never before seen in this country.

I'm just putting this out there, if Liberals were voted in at the last election, we would be facing this massive belt tightening. But no, everyone wanted this Labor party led by Julia "Ronald" Dullard to continue handing out money to everything. Money which the country does not actually possess. Ladies and Gentlemen, take this with a grain of salt and a shot of scotch, this is the consequences of our actions. What has been put forth is for the greater good.

"to continue handing out money to everything.Money which the country does not actually possess." WRONG. Australias spending on things like welfare and education is low by OECD standards. The budget problems are caused by falling revenue, not excess spending. That is thanks mainly to Howard's Liberal government. The Federal budget loses over 100 billion dollars a year in revenue due to unsustainable tax concessions. This budget is not for the greater good. You clearly don't know what your talking about.

  • @Daniel-dg3np

    @Daniel-dg3np

So BrigadierBR you are stating that the debt was due to increased spending under Labor during 2007 - 2013? The figures only support a fraction of the current debt being due to spending programs introduced under Labor. Instead the majority is due to reduced tax intake due to two things. Firstly a reduced company tax intake due to the GFC. Secondly, and the largest proportion, ws the successive income tax reductions under the previous Liberal government and then those promised by both Liberal and Labor at the 2007 election. But you knew that, right?

Ramdatta Ropemaker That is about 2/3 of the truth. You're just forgetting the sale of assets and the windfall tax gains from the global wealth surge around the turn of the century. Would you be happy if I sold your house and car, collected any windfall increases in your yearly income and then provided you with a surplus half the value of those combined? Heck I gave you SOME money right? Would you be praising me or utilising your clearly extensive vocab? I'm not saying it was all bad, but you need to see recent economic history in context not a football contest.

***** I was only pointing out, the claim that Howard alone got us into debt is factually false, and asset sales do nothing to pin the blame entirely on Howard's government. Had Krudd been as effective in running the country as he was in campaigning, we would be in a much better position. To be fair, the GFC pretty much fucked everyone over, so there was that too.

  • @Johndoe-vf9uv

Ramdatta Ropemaker "I was only pointing out, the claim that Howard alone got us into debt is factually false, and asset sales do nothing to pin the blame entirely on Howard's government." And who said it was ENTIRELY his fault? i said "thanks MAINLY to Howard's Liberal government." "Howard government was the last government to get us into surplus. Labor then went and spent it all." You do realize a few years ago economists were talking about how our debt being so low was a serious problem - because it could dry up the government bond market? Government finances don't work like personal finances. Its NOT ideal for debt levels to be zero. The governments supposed to make social and infrastructure investments. How many countries in the OECD have less debt than us? ''Had Krudd been as effective in running the country as he was in campaigning, we would be in a much better position.'' Labor's management resulted in low inflation, continual economic growth, low interest rates, a triple-A credit rating and net peaking of debt at 1/7 of other advanced major economies. This peaked with the GFC and the treasury projected that it would return to surplus in 2016. In just the short time since the election Hockey has more than doubled the debt by borrowing more (which he said he wouldn't do). This Liberal governments budget, even with all the unnecessary and draconian cutbacks, will apparently take10 years to get back to surplus. So how exactly could the country have been run more effectively over this time-span? ''shitcunt'' This is just childish.. btw I hate the main Liberal and Labor parties but this Liberal government is easily the worst in Australian history.

Robot HandLove Okay listen up pal. A pensioner gets $300~ give or take every week. A great number of pensioners visit the doctors at least 6 times a week. That's $42 per week. THEN add on the $7 for specialists that the doctor refers them to afterwards. Let's say 2 organ specialists. 3 visits a week each. That's an additional $42. There we go, pensioners can pay up to $84~ a week out of their $300 pension. Pretty much 1/3 of it, really. Now add on the bills and groceries, add on any other factor that they have to pay for, and you'll see that $7 per visit is actually something. Have some sympathy for the pensioners fucktards.

The problem here is you're comparing a macro-economic budget to a household budget. Public debt isn't always a bad thing, and the level of public debt we have is miniscule compared with....almost every other country on the planet. Especially when looking at net public debt instead of gross public debt. Taking into account who owes us money, and not just who we owe money to. What also matters is where that public debt is allocated. How much is foreign debt? How much is owed to the Australian people by way of government bonds wrapped up in super funds? Yes, that's correct. A significant portion of Australia's public debt is actually making you money through superannuation interest..

The money was being spent on the economy. Spending money on the economy increases economic activity as people spend more, or even improve their productivity at work due to increased infrastructure. What Abott is doing wrong is cutting education subsidies. Like wtf discouraging people going to school and uni? Does he want our future workforce to all end up at a fast food restaurant counter or something?

The idiots in the comments that think saving money on a budget will help our economy in the long run. Last time I checked, workers are the core of any economy, and by taking money from them and their education, you are doing nothing but weakening the GDP in the long run. Most economists believe that this new budget isn't necessary, and I'd take their opinion over Joe. Hockey's any day. Especially considering the slashes he is now making to universities, despite him complaining about University fees when he was going through. This government is in a rush to pay off a tiny debt, that would of corrected itself given enough time. I do honestly believe that Tony Abbot and his government think they are doing the right thing, but we didn't elect this government to think they are doing the right thing, we elected them to do what we think is the right thing.

Their policies are absolutely insane and it sadly appears as though only history will be the judge of the LNP, with so many today blinded by ideology and party-allegiance (see Pyne and Hockey).

Not quite; Australia's economy was actually in excellent shape under Labor, to the point that we were the envy of the developed world post-GFC. We were not at all wrecked, and our debt was a very small percentage of our GDP. There is no debt crisis, SkyGyrl. Additionally, there's much more to this than the fake budget emergency. I'm not going to go to the effort of listing everything, though you should know that basically *every single thing* Tony has *promised* he *would not do*, he *has* done or has confirmed he plans to do. Right after spending years yelling about "Labor lies and dishonesty", no less. I hope you can see that everybody complaining about Tony Abbott has perfectly valid reason to do so.

It's always a competition between a giant douche and a turd sandwich these days. Fight the two-party system and vote below the line to really get results. Or vote for bees. They won't sting you unless their life depends on it, and it's the last thing they ever do. Bees would make a great government :p

I seriously recommend it, there are a lot of great people there who are hungry for change, and the more progressive and intelligent people who get involved the better. Abbott's far right ideological driven warfare on the poor and middle class will mobilise progressive Australians.
