Really ??Tommy Lee still plays and he is more of a groove in the pocket drummer,he still hits the drums HARD and I just wish we'd hear some more of the way he drummed on that 1994 Record when they brought Corabi in,cuz he showed just how good he can be,when not limited by certain style of songwriting!!

I've been playing drums all my life. Let me tell you folks something,...back in the 80's, I was a teenager, & had already been playing for 8 or 9 yrs. Man, I was a Tommy Aldridge wannabe. Well, NOW it's 2020. I've been playing for about 42 yrs. .....and I'm a Tommy Aldridge wannabe.

As a proud Canadian its bordering on blasphemy to say this but Tommy has been my number one fave drummer (would maybe even give up my left one to have him as the other half of the engine room of our band) and the late great Neil Peart was number two. Tommy doesnt play with so much technical flash as a rule - although he certainly can, I ve heard him play straight ahead jazz style too - but Ive never heard anyone else play with that raw power that says I fuckin mean it with every stroke. And any young drummer looking at going down the double kick road should carefully study everything he recorded. Over and over. His technique is not only fantastic its unique and unlike most young guys, even though he uses the double kick so much and so well, his snare and hi-hat technique hasnt suffered. Ive made some rough loops where I isolated his drums the closest Im ever likely to get to play with him lets just say those are not my neighbors fave practice days. Crying In The Rain, Bad Boys, Fool For Your Lovin, from various live recordings, and between now and xmas I plan to see what I can do with the whole Slip Of The Tongue record. That was the first one of theirs I heard all the way through and the drums sound good on it so relatively easy to make something of decent quality. If youre interested in a copy let me know and when Ive got it ready I can hook you up.

Yes T.A. Is on another level, him and Randy Castillo always my favorite. I have one of R.C. Sticks that he handed me.
Love the energy Tommy puts into his art.

It's amazing how the great drummers just get better with age. I have never been a fan of double bass players but Tommy makes it sounds so tasteful and never over does it.
This man is what drumming is all about. Glad we still have this man with us today.
To the critics (who are just being critical): Sometimes greatness has more to do with your body of work, professionalism, and numbers of lives influenced by what you do and how you do it. Degree of difficulty has nothing to do with greatness. Tommy’s great at what HE does and he’s left his mark on the rock world. Something to consider.

Joe Feldpausch if you’re willing to see it, Tommy’s influence on drumming AND style/technique is ALL OVER the drummers from the 70s, 80s, 90’s and beyond. And if that’s not enough for everyone, he’s one of the nicest and most humble guys you’ll ever meet. VERY under rated.

Tommy is a great drummer. Problem is we are in the era of the KZread drummer where we get to see all this incredible technical playing that lacks any type of human feel. Might as well be a drum machine. Tommy Aldridge is probably one of the best rock ‘n’ roll drummers out alive.

Tommy doesn't just play the drums, he annihilates them. I challenge any one of these self obsessed critics to do what this man or any of the other greats does at their age. Absolutely phenomenal stuff. I'm curious to know what kind of cardio some of these guys do to keep in drumming shape and not perspire behind the kit. I mean look at Bill Ward, hasn't he had 2 or 3 heart attacks already. Hell, Sib Hasian died behind a kit while on tour.

You would be very lucky. I met him back in the 90s at a drum clinic in Sacramento. The part I remember most is during the Q&A session. Someone asked, "What advice would you give young drummers just starting out?" His answer, "Take lessons. Definitely take lessons. I feel I could have done a lot more if I had taken lessons." Done more?!?! DONE MORE?!?!?!

Tommy Aldridge, one of my earliest influences and still a source of inspiration. Sure, we can all play double bass, trips, quads, sextuplets, etc, it's the way Tommy puts his phrasing together that sets him apart from the masses.....
I saw him at my second show with OZZY and Randy at the Forum in LA. What a night, AWESOME SHOW!!! Tommy was def. part of that!!!
Nearly 70 years old and still better than all of us :)
I saw him at a drum clinic a few years back didnt know much about him. I was SHOCKED how hard he hit, nothing could touch him. LEGEND

Even when he loses his time it sounds right. Total powerhouse legend.
Tommy never gets old
My first time at a concert was Black Sabbath, and their warm up band was Sweat Hog with Barry “Frosty” Smith on drums, and I watched his solo played with his hands and was amazed. This reminds me of that GREAT concert.
I'v Seen Him When He Was With Black Oak Arkansas. . Him Carl Palmer.and Cozy Powell ... Great times in the 70s
1st Tommy sighting was with Pat Travers opening for Rush. Neil ! was watching his solo from sidestage!!! Then caught him with Ozzy during the infamous Motley Crue tour. Neil ,forever the student,I love both of these guys ,Tommy and Neil were peers in my outlook.Maybe some day we will meet in the resurrection ,Neil Peart ,fellow Canadian.Take care you all.
He had a drum tutorial video out on VHS years ago. I learned a lot about his style from it. In it he said, and I am paraphrasing " The drums are a very physical instrument, its not like some keyboard or guitar player over there picking his nose, you know I have seen a lot of great drummers before and while they were great it was like watching them playing to a different record or something. (meaning their movements dont match the sound as they play). I beleive people go to show they want to see a show. " This is why he is such a showman, I believe Gene Krupa was quite a showman also. In the video he showed his stick twirling technique, which is in my opinion is super sick and what seperates his twirling style from others is while he may have one hand in twirling and so much dam sound is still coming out of his set, and it messes with your mind. You can see this in this demo clip. Also the one handed cymbal mutes, rapid- both hands. Jaw dropping sickness. He explains in his tutorial his practice of the single stroke roll with the feet. and also his 3 foot 3 hand and 3 foot 2 hand technique. Nobody was doing that. For me being a drummer myself trained under the sounds of Bonham, peart and others,- i have seen numerous greats play and always sort of understood what they were doing. When I saw Tommy A. live numerous times during the concert he did things I had no idea what the hell he was doing and how he was pulling off all the sounds coming out of his kit, not to mention looking super bad ass while doing it. Dude is one of a Kind!!!!
this man is a legend i love when it lift up is hand and turn around over head wow !!! great man long life at 70 Wow
This man is THE main reason I still listen to Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil" album to this day.

Playing at an insane level like that approaching 70 years old - Wow! I saw him with Ozzy and Whitesnake in the 80s. Tommy is a legend.
Tommy is a true legend! I first saw him live back in 1978 when Pat Travers opened for Rush. What a showman! His stick twirling was amazing, just like that twirl at 2:10. He reminds us that it's SHOW business, and that looking good is just as important as sounding good.
