I wish all 5 games of the Legacy of Kain games got a release on current gen. That entire series is a master piece of the finest voice acting ever made. Seriously, go watch any video describing the Legacy of Kain series, and you will hear nothing but praise for how good the voice actors are, just listening to the narration without even playing the game is worth it. To this very day, there isn't a single game that has ever come out that has better voice acting than the Legacy of Kain series, but Embracer will just sit on that franchise and do absolutely nothing with it, not even basic ports.

Considering the fact that there's a lot of stuff to patch, I am glad they didn't bother with a physical release yet. This should happen at the end of the development cycle imo.

@@SwitchWatch yea. The remaster is mostly great and it looks amazing, i personally love it, but there are still some bugs, textures, animations and some tweaks to the modern controls that can improve precision. Nothing too drastic. Hopefully they'll do it quicklly and put out the physical copies.

Def need a physical copy of this. Also, it is weird the new controls don't have a "step back" button. From when I played the original, that was something you had to use all the time to line up the jumps. Great vid!

Just practice tank. They are the best way to play once you get proficient. Go to Lara's house in 2 or 3 and run the backyard course a few times.

I've noticed that the same thing has happened to Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered as well. It was announced in several stores to have a physical release, but now it's suddenly a digital release! Like you said, it's almost like the publishers is trying to make people double dip on certain titles, by letting them get the digital release first!

You’re probably not alone. Luckily I just started another game , which helps me resist pulling the trigger. The lack of a physical release , changes to things like the Jacket in TR1, and the obnoxious disclaimer you’re forced to see are giving me pause.

I'd say it's good to support games made with such care, a lot of fans worked on this as well as the dev studio Aspyr which is really cool. Especially seeing how Crystal Dynamics seems to be trying to take the franchise in a very different direction from the core audience and historical character.

100% yes! I pre-ordered it on Play-Asia and they sent me a mail that they can't source the physical version so they cancel my purchase. If it ever pops up on LRG I'll be the first in line to place an order. I'd like to play through at least the first game (it's the most fun and balanced I think) but I'm waiting for a physical release.

Same thing happened to me. I was actually pretty upset because I wanted the physical copy for a charity event, so when it got canceled I was angry because I wanted to include it so bad. I mean I also wanted one for myself and the game is pretty great (some of the lighting here and there could use a tweak) but as you said, Limited Run? Also, if Limited Run did do it, it would be AWESOME if they could include a soundtrack. I would kill to have Nathan McCree's music on official CDs.

Not sure how you mean “balanced”. But I picked it up and have almost completed the first one already and I will say it is a bit more forgiving in how many traps and pitfalls you run into in earlier stages. Save the game. Very often. But yeah. TR2 has an insane amount of traps even just in the first level. I didn’t realize how polarizingly different it was. Back in the day I had only bear 2 and 3 and not played 1. 1’s pacing and level design so far is a masterpiece and st Francis Folly *chefs kiss*

@@gostreiver8036 By balance I mean it has a lot of exploration, some combat, some puzzles. TR2 upped the combat and included the most devious traps. I'm watching FoxMaster's AI Lara walkthrough series and it makes me angry how evil the level design is in TR2 and you have to kill thugs on every corner. TR3 continued with the evil level design but scaled back on the killing. TR1 feels more like you are an adventurer and archeologist trying to find stuff in hidden temples and ruins. I ment something like that when I said "balanced". Just the right amount of exploration and combat without crazy levels.

@@geoffreychauvin1474 The Peru stages are pretty iconic, but yeah, the stages in Greece are my favorite. I do see some ppl take shots at Cistern and Tomb of Q but there isn't anything in the first game I dislike.

This makes perfect sense. That style of having to figure out what to do with no hand holding was also Sou Reavers style which I really liked but that one had a lock on feature.

Hey at least with Limited Run we will likely get all three games on the cart.... Unlike Metal Gear or many other retail releases. While I 'm tired of all the "limited run companies", usually they put out Complete games. However in the perfect world we could just get retail releases complete. Physical market is such a disaster these days.

LM are garbage, nothing special about their releases at all they couldn't scream "retail release" any harder if they tried. I waited like 7 months for my copy of Alien Isolation and I've never seen a lazier release for something supposedly "collectable". The only difference compared to if a retail release existed is that LM included a half arsed leaflet in the box with a short blurb on the characters. Total waste of money and time.

This release can easily fit on an 8GB Switch cartridge which while it wouldn't cheap, I highly doubt they would make it partly download.

Yeah you are probably right. The physical copy is just a matter of WHEN and not IF. They will do the same strategy Sega did with Sonic Origins: releases the game only digital and after a year or so launch a physical copy with some extras and bug fixes.

Thanks for covering this Jordan - I've been going crazy hoping for a physical release of my childhood classics! Edit: the tank controls are best for platforming, but I bet the modern controls are better for combat (assuming the aiming works).

I’ve got the digital, if they released physical I would buy that instantly and so would a lot of others, they are losing money, crazy, I think this collection will be a huge success

I kind of believe more that Crystal Dynamics simply wants to bury this realesed with as little effort as possible as they hate the og Lara favoring the new one. The physical realese would cost them near to nothing given the small size of this collection.

Yeah I've even considered not purchasing it due to Crystal Dynamics. Luckily Aspyr developed this and they aren't of a hateful report to the franchise or fans. I also want nothing to do with an opening rhetoric in any game I own, telling me that the game is racist and insinuating that anyone who enjoys the game especially back then, was also racist.

@@KCportablegamer Yeah, I'm annoyed that they don't take Paypal anymore. That was dumb to change the shipping and take a step backwards in payment. Also, you don't need a "credit" card per say; don't you have a debit card? I only have a debit card and that worked.

I love tank controls but if your going to put modern controls then do it properly. Theirs even some stuff Lara can't even do like back flips and side flips . Can't even walk backwards.

Apparently Aspyr is teasing a physical release and some are guessing they are waiting to see how well the digital version sells. With that said this game has been getting great reviews and it's a amazing deal

I actually like this approach. Once it comes physically, it will be all patched up. I do not like that LRG will be handling it. They never managed to make it more accessible to Europeans to get their games.

Since Aspyr is distributing this collection, I'm very sure they will put out a physical release down the line.

A 2.5HD of this would have been awesome.

My friend will definitely get this if a physical copy is available.

The Last Revelation and Chronicles are also in the works. Best to make a physical copy with all 5 classics. I have a bundle pack with 7 Star Wars classics in one physical case from Aspyr, as well as an earlier physical Star Wars classics bundle with only 2 games like Jedi Academy 1&2 on Ps4. The 7 pack has Jedi Academy 1&2, Episode 1 Racer, KOTOR 1&2, Republic Commando and Force Unleashed, and they were all digitally released at different times. I could see a 5 game bundle for Tomb Raider in the future(hopefully)...

A physical copy of the game will be the same as the digital, Bluray disc or cartridge will contain a license key that needs internet connection to download the games, I saw this in other games like the Final Fantasy I to VI collection on switch, or Metal Gear Solid Remasters, etc.

All Final Fantasy games (except for FF X-2 unless asian version) on Switch is all on cart. Most Switch physical carts usually is playable without needing internet connection.

I found that the modern controls breaks directional jumping, making certain puzzles (and even the tutorial) almost impossible.

You nailed it on the head with the controls analysis. While many may find the tank controls “clunky” or dated The games were perfectly meticulously crafted around the precision aiming Lara’s body and lining up where she can grab or how far she can jump. These games don’t offer a ton in the way of action. where they have Always shined is being puzzle platformers , where a huge part of the puzzle is how far forward Lara is on a platform before jumping. Did you just do a standing jump, or try running? If you run and jump. You better give her almost 1-2 platforms worth of a runway or her delay on jumping will not go off. And you go right down into the spiked pit. It’s just brilliant. Unlike any other game It’s so good to have Tomb raider back, the way it was meant to be played

I am a tank control convert

With the Remastered being this great and especially being around 25 bucks (which is a really nice price), I actually don't mind them shifting the physical release to a few month after - maybe even with some minor fixes on top. After all this remaster is what fans have really been waiting for. I think a lot of other game companies releasing cheaply remastered games nowadays just for the cashgrab can take notes here! Putting love into it, trying to stay as authentic as possible (and even involving some skilled people from the fan-community) and then selling it for a reasonable price since these are still old games - this is how it's done. This is a remaster done right (something rather rare nowadays) and I love it! ❤🙂

Well, if it's Limited Run Games publishing it, then I won't be buying it. We didn't forget.

Let's hope Limited Run Games will save us! One more time! They did it with Castlevania Anniversary Edition in 2021. Other physical releases after a long while as Download/eShop only (not by Limited Run Games): Cuphead Cadence of Hyrule Sonic Mania (Plus) Sonic Origins (Plus) I want Tomb Raider 1-3 so bad!!! I don't wanna support digital downloads! I want a physical release! Tomb Raider 1-3 is as iconic as the Sonic Origins games!

Agreed it’ll 98% sure LRG will get this. Hopefully it’ll be a two month open window. They do that for their bigger orders a lot. Wish they’d kept the checkpoints and made the save when you want option-optional?

I really hate this situation, because I super want to play, but I have such a strong preference for physical copies, that if they actually release it, I'll be really upset.

They could be waiting for Tomb Raider 4-6 remastered and package it for 60 bucks as the TOMB RAIDER CORE CLASSICS COLLECTION. Just my speculation. That would be smart on their end

Disappointed there is no physical, I really want to play it but will hold off, many other games to play and final fantasy rebirth is out soon so covered for a while. Glad to see classic Lara back though :)

Definitely the peak of the series.

It was announced that there will be no physical release about two weeks ago

Hot take: TR Last Rev is peak. The atmosphere and music and the storyline is that dark magic vibr.

I don’t know if I’ve actually played that one. I think my dad got bored with the series after 3

They weren't initially sure of its success when shown on the Nintendo Direct, but they should have been confident because Aspyr did a great job.

Hopefully, there will be a collectors edition with some kind of limited Lara 1/6-1/4 figurine.

Fingers crossed it's the pointy boob version.

Also the sales for Tomb raider remastered are going kinda wild majority of countries Tomb raider was even beating out final fantasy as number 1 pre-order.

Was looking forward to this game ❤ now if theirs really no physical copy available? I’m not buying it😈 A few friends of mine actually had their physical preorders canceled as I guess their were places that you could preorder this game 🤔

I am sad about the save system though. Tomb Raider 3 was having quite the perfect saving system.

I searched for physical but bought digitally when couldn’t find physical because preordering gave a 10% discount.

I've been switching back and forth on the modern and tank contols on some levels. I only had these games for the pc it's a big difference from playing them on the PS4 and Switch. For me, the old tank contols have been more helpful than the modern. I call the modern my "cheat contols." I had to rewire my brain from pc to the Switch and Playstation4. I love these games. But in all truth, it's what best works for you. Plus, you can always tweek the controls in the menu to best fit your game play. Plus.. my only complaint that I had is that there is no physical release.

Bought it on Steam, will buy it again if it goes physical. There's never too much of Lara

I can't wait for a physical copy ... LIKE my comment if you want it too! (In the meantime i have a lot of other games to play and finish, so it's all good..but still can't wait!)

I've been playing my PSX versions lately (just finished TR2) while waiting for a (European) physical release . They won't fool me into double-dipping! Probably...

As many games as I have, I have never played a Tomb Raider game. Perfect time to get in for me. I would double dip for a physical version. Feel there wasn't much marketing because whether its embracer or crystal dynamics, they didn't want to push THIS Lara Croft.

I threw a claim cc'ing Spanish editors (I'm Spanish) and one of them, Tesura, replied me strangely.

This might be wishful thinking but maybe they are intending on remastering Last Revelation and Chronicles and then doing a physical release with all 5 games bundled together

I know Angel of Darkness is considered 'bad' but that would be the ultimate dismissal if it was the only one left out 😅

I'm gonna wait for a physical. If there is none in a year , I'm gonna buy it digital.

Not gonna buy till a physical copy comes out.

I'm hoping for a physical PS5 release. I have been wanting a remaster of those early Tomb Raider games for a long while. I'll hold back for a while instead of buying the downloadable version of this game. Maybe LRG will pick it up and release it mid-year. I really don't want to have to buy this game as a download. I want to have it in my physical collection next to my boxed Tomb Raider PC games.

Ive got these physical, on playstation. In the meantime ill download this. Take that you physical only cult!
