Tomb Raider 1 - Windows Playthrough with John Capon's Textures
Ойындар
The first Tomb Raider game released in 1996 has been ported to many different platforms. This is a complete playthrough using a Windows port made by fans. I'm using TombATI/GLRage and John Capon's high resolution textures. All FMVs are in 16:9 corrected aspect ratio. I've set a narrower than standard FOV to make Lara appear larger on screen.

Honestly, good for us nowadays. These games were good, but ultimately bad with gameplay and accesibility. Those were the times when only few people could play these pieces. I was one of them starting late by 1991 (OMG, im celebrating 30 years of gaming! :-O), and I like modern games more. Of course there are expections like Fallout 1, Baldurs Gate or Stunts (yes!).

There's something special about Tomb Raider 1 that I never saw on any game before it: its sheer sense of scale. The scenarios were so gigantic that it was easy to be overwhelmed by that size. And the way the camera was adjusted helps. Pay attention, for example, at the St. Francis Foley phase where you need to step on the button to make the Thor hammer fall. Observe how immense is that object in comparison to the character that you're controlling. It's amazing that you are interacting with something that big and feel like that it's really huge and manacing. Or when you need to take a leap of Faith when you are really big heigths, like in the The Great Pyramid right after battling Natla. Back then, I remember feeling a little vertigo, which is actually awesome. It might not seem a big deal now, but in 1996 it was pretty special.

You can really see how much effort CORE went through to make these areas as believable as possible, even with every bit of geometry in the game being nothing but blocks and triangles, the graphical overhaul doesn't even look weird, in fact much of it actually improves it, making it even more believable.

When this game came out way back its primary draw was the graphics lol. This was a time when lots of people were still on 16 bit machines. 3d was a wondrous thing to behold, and usually shit to play by my recollection. Gotta remember back then they were still figuring out how to do shit so many 3d games had similar issues. Clunky controls terrible cameras, I remember playing Mario 64 when it came out thinking this looks amazing, but controls like dog shit 😂 I hate this camera bollocks this 3d shit is never gonna work no matter how incredible it looks. Took years for people to learn how to actually control a camera and devs to build games that weren't hamstrung by the same clunky arsed issues. Look at this game as an example. Only reason he's doing that roll thing is to turn around cos if you did it normally you rotate on the spot and it takes several seconds just to turn 180 ° ffs. Another issue with this game I remember, was hard to see where you were supposed to go sometimes you wouldn't see a ledge because the texture was identical with everything else in the area and it simply blended into the back ground. Just spend hours wandering round in circles not seeing a ledge you needed to jump upyo
@codym348
3 жыл бұрын
To be fair, TR1-5 were almost identical other than graphics and plots. My issue with the new TRs is that they hold your hand through the entire game, whereas the originals were like "okay, there's a thing you need to find three to six levels away. Good luck pal." And then TR4 was like "there's a thing you need in this level but you need to go through two and a half other levels first, then come back for it, then go back and finish that other level, and if you do it wrong you'll break the game and have to start over. Oh and also every level is too dark to see because fuck you." They also made them look super cheesy, control worse than the classics, and they're still super buggy.

Amazing control man; from the surgical jumps to the health management and even down to ammo management... What a bizarre ending, but your play was phenomenal. You just ran straight through the entire game without stopping once, your fight with the 2nd form of natlia was hilarious when you let her get your health down and then finished her off. You know this game inside and out extremely well. It’s insane
This game had atmosphere. Something modern games lack far too often. They paced this just right even if the emphasis is strongly on long near silent exploring segments. It is, as mentioned, quite realistic, atmosphere wise.
I love it in the orginal games that Lara is actually putting efforts while performing aerobatic actions like climbing or jumping. The new Tomb Raider Lara effortlessly does those things
I love my recommendations, I can never get enough of Tomb Raider playthroughs! The music and atmosphere the old Tomb Raider games generate has never been matched by any modern video game, there's something so awesome about the background ambience and the droning of footsteps. It's very simple, yet it seems like less is more in terms of immersion. I remember playing this back in the day on the PS1, whenever the PS1 would make the loading noise in the middle of a level, you knew you trouble was just around the corner, and that is why I always come back to the old TR games!
Got my first PlayStation when I was deployed to Misawa Japan, spent many hours playing this game and listening to it on the same Bose speakers I had then. I really loved this game and enjoy watching you play...you truly KNOW this game...lol WOW!

I remember playing this game with my friends for hours on the original Playstation when it came out. Evening to morning to night. Some of the moves and puzzles were mind bending. But the scope, the graphics, the 3 dimensional multi-movement forms, cut scenes, weapons selection, movement and combat, the speech, the music, sound effects and the enemies were never seen before. This was Indiana Jones in a better body with better moves. Atmospheric is the best word for it. This was a world which we had never seen before. But of course people now will not think that ,if they see the original polygonal graphics. The textures here look like TR3 which are beautiful but are far beyond our original Polygon Adventurer. Thanks friend. I appreciate the work and memories from the video game.

I am still at that point orher tomb raiders arent at all same as this with those music and expecially best levels ever in games. Anyone other wondering why today games arent like this you play 100 hours of trying to find right path to next level and without any instructions ??

Dude. You are nostalgic. Nothing more or less. Just admit it and let people alone. This game is not the best game.

I have to agree about the hole atmosphere and also quiet and loneliness feeling.
I Miss The 90s So Much. Everything Was Better In This 90s.
Everything looks so clean . incredible
this is beautifully drawn or composed, the music ACE as well
I was 6 or 7 when I played this game and I remember I was traumatized because I used to have nightmares with this game. When I got so scared I just stopped playing but then I used to think about how to get to a new level and start to play again and then repeat. Now I see how difficult it was for my age and how scary still is and I still think it is the best game I ever played. I used to love it so much that I wanted to name my daughter Lara like Lara Croft
2:58:23 most epic final fight ever lol
These are the most wonderful tomb raider textures EVER! ♥ The first game is one of the best and with this textures... holy !
I'm so happy I found this gameplay. I have been dealing with a lot of anxiety for the past days and Tomb Raider helped me sleep more relaxed last night. Not in a bad way 😅
This is what a HD master should look like...
you are a very talented player. kudos.
This is the most impressive game-play I've ever seen, this game was fiendishly difficult, to make it look easy is incredible.
Hi, i just wanted to congratulate you on your god damn amazing skills at this game Also the game is very well presented, i did not even realize the texture were updated, 16/9 on the FMV, everything is perfect thank you
Tomb Raider Anniversary was one hell of a remake. All of you should play it.

It was alright but not the real deal because they changed the story and Natlas personality entirely. They got rid of the cowboy boss, too.
*that sigh Lara makes when she uses a med-pack*
i am 49 years old completed the 3 reboot Tomb Raider games on PS4 but watching this video brings the goosebumps back playing Tomb Raider 1 on PS1 can not beat the original kids of today don't know how good they have it .
There still something kind of pleasing about this level of simple clean graphics, everything is so clear.
Playing without a mistake... how does this going? Perfect game, with perfect game textures

do you realize that he play it level separate. but still he knows what hes doing and the best route.
These animations look so much better than todays TR games. They're smooth and there's like a poetry in the movements.
The head first dive in the last level gets a like. I was always hoping you'd do one to then finally have my patience rewarded at the end.
Wow good old memories I play all the tomb raider games in the 90 and I still like them all this reminds me to get them all again thanks for this.
Looks nice but whoever tore up the red carpets in Tomb of Qualopec needs to be fired. They're what made that place feel epic.

Same with the blue walls in The Cistern. It doesn't look the same.
Keep in mind when you got stuck on this there was no KZread to quickly find the lever or hidden room. You were just stuck, and maybe you got lucky and found it in the back of a GamePro magazine one month😫

true story. in fact, tomb raider 3 i was stuck in the beginning of one level. i did not know, that i have to jump at a spacial moment and after that turn around to see a hidden platform. xD needed to buy the book for these games.

@@juilescieg lol tomb raider was innovative with how they made some of these puzzles and so many were like you said. If you weren't jumping from a certain spot on a lot of levels you couldn't find it. I got stuck at the beginning of TR2 on the first level for months!
Fantastic work!!!
Three hours - you made it look absolutely flawless. Normally takes me nearly half an hour for each level
This is the true Lara Croft ,😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

HiRes texture are a perfect improvement!
Currently watching in 2019 and I will say the first three games are my all time favourites ever the music the atmosphere the suspense the gameplay the level design Tomb raiders these days are crap what happened to the horror aspect I used to be on edge going around a corner or into a certain area The tomb raiders these days don’t play like this they are very much different I don’t know what went wrong? However I can’t and will not express how much this tomb raider holds a place I was 7 when I first played this I’m now 27 and I’ll be 47 still admiring this!! It’s a masterpiece I love it so much,
