David Young, I believe you are correct. That's the conclusion I came to also. He's on death row thinking about where they will bury him after his execution, "Beneath the Green Green Grass Of Home." When I was a kid I thought it was only about a guy missing home until I listened more as an adult.

People don't grow up watching westerns and gangster movies anymore. Few reactors understand the song. They're all too young.

The song is about pleasant memories foreshadowing the bleak memory of the last hours of a condemned prisoner about to be executed.

You're almost right, although it was a little more dramatic than just passing away. The four grey walls that surround him and the walk with a padre at daybreak refer to him going to his execution before finally being buried in his home town.

Even though this song was written by Curly Putman and sung by Porter Wagner, George Jones and even Elvis. No one could compare with Tom Jones' version. I loved this song so much it may have been the first of his songs I learned completely to sing it.

Flipping thru youtube and listening to some Tom Jones when I came across this channel. It surprises me when young listener discovers these great vocalist. Not many singer today can match the talent of the big names of the pass. However, this poor girl is out of her league. First she isn't appreciating Sir Tom Jones' powerful voice and secondly she doesn't has fully understanding the story within the song. Perhaps your next review should be some kindergarten class doing twinkle twinkle little star.

He knows well the green green grass of ho. E. Where he comes from Wales is a beahtifull country. The reason its so green is it rains a great deal which makes a lush verdent sight. The hills n mountains n vallys beautifull.

You need to watch him do the song Kiss (the same one that was done by Prince) Its a more recent song from him. Not recent, like just yesterday recent, but I want to say from the 90's maybe? I have a feeling you will enjoy it. I know I did. 😘

1 problem with that - "Green, Green Grass Of Home" was recorded in 1966 & "Delilah" came out in 1967.

Seemed like a country song. Didn't like it. Tom's voice was just fine but not the song, IMO.
