As a brit I've followed Tom since the early days and was pretty surprised at how many pro fighters and fans really had no clue what he was all about. I was very confident his speed and straight punches would be too much for Sergei. It's so satisfying to see him get the recognition now from people like Henry, it was only a matter of time! If anyone didn’t know much about Aspinall before the Pavlovich fight then he’s much better than you realise. How would Jones beat him? It’s got to either be by submission or by decision. Nobody is going to last 5 rounds against Aspinall’s arsenal of tools. Aspinall has more routes to victory than Jones. Jones’ experience and fight IQ are his greatest strengths against Aspinall but, IMO, Aspinall would be too much for Jones.

Listen John Jones is the greatest MMA fighter that has ever lived on planet earth so far i believe. Obviously Jones is not in his prime anymore and hasn't been since the Reyes fight when he blatantly lost 3 rounds to 2 even though the judges gave that fight to Jones. Now Tom Aspinall is currently an extremely well rounded fighter who is getting better every single fight and can literally do it all at a very high level indeed. I'm not even sure if John Jones would actually want to get it on with Tom Aspinall at this stage in his career. Im a john Jones fan through and through and yet i would still say that Aspinall would win that fight all day long as Tom is a new breed of heavyweight, still getting better and Jones is well on the slide

Hi Henry, I enjoyed your breakdown and I know you are team Jones and rightly so. One thing I would like to understand though is you mention Jones' reach quite a lot but in the 10 years I've been watching Jones fight his reach advantage has only been used to good effect with hand fighting and then using that to engage closer and create things like nasty elbows etc, but in terms of punching/boxing to me that reach advantage isn't used probably as well as it could be. Curious to hear why you think his reach is so important? And by the way Leg reach is whole other story Jon definitely knows how to use the legs, especially from a defensive stand point.

I’m from Scotland so I’m obviously team Aspinal. Jones in my opinion is the Goat. But he’s getting older and definitely past his prime. Also we still don’t really know how Jones is at heavyweight cause let’s face it, taking Gane down and submitting him on the ground didn’t really prove that much in all respect. Plus there’s always going to be someone else Jones has to beat and prove he’s the best. I think Aspinall would beat him. John should take the Stipe fight, win and ride into the sunset as the king as there’s now a new generational champ coming.

Some are saying Jones holds all the cards. I tend to disagree. If Jon wants to secure his legacy as GOAT, he will have to fight Tom and beat him. Jon beating a past his best Stipe and walking off into the sunset will be viewed by a lot of fight fans as him running away from Tom and that tag would follow him forever. He may not relish fighting Tom, but I do not think he has a choice. In my book he would earn more respect by fighting Tom and losing than he would by walking away. This will be the defining decision of Jon's career. Dana needs to find a way to make it happen.

Henry Cejudo is very likeable if you can look past his cringe and he pretty much tells it how it is. Now i thought he would have favoured and picked Tom Aspinall to beat Sergey Pavlovich during his pre fight breakdown of the two but he didn't and went with Pavlovich to get the KO and we all know how that panned out.

I think it is a bit premature of Tom saying he is the best heavyweight in the world before fighting Jones - Tom has got incredible talent but Jons fight IQ is off the charts.

jon beat a non champion for the title toms as much of the champion as jones is, both never beat the man so they the logical thing to do is bring them together for the undisputed

Tom has an average fight time of 2:10 so how do you KNOW about Aspinall’s fight IQ?

  • @blaze1148

@@KellyBurnett138 ....because he hasn't fought absolute killers like Jon has - it's way too early to even put Tom in the same ball park as Jon - he is still early in his career and has not really been tested - Tom vs Jon would be an amazing fight but if Jon brings his _A_ game Tom will not win - interesting fight though - far more interesting than Jon vs Stipe for sure as Tom is peaking now.
