TOKYO JAPAN APARTMENT HUNTING!! 😱 empty apartment tours + *expensive studios*

IT HAS COME TIME FOR ME TO MOVE BECAUSE I'M STARTING A JOB ON THE TOTAL OPPOSITE SIDE OF TOKYO FROM WHERE I LIVE NOW AND I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO RIDE THE RUSH HOUR TRAIN EVERY DAY OR I WILL BECOME A HUSK OF A PERSON 😭
Apartment hunting in Japan during the high season is sooo stressful lmao 0/10 DO NOT recommend but sometimes you gotta do it...I was originally planning on not moving until later this summer but I'm actually glad I did it now despite the stress because guys MOVING TAKES SO MUCH TIME AND AHHH idk how I will do this once I have a job lol 🌸
So I visited two apartments!! Please let me know which one you liked better down below in the comments! I was hoping to view more to make this a fun ~series~ but I just did not have the time to lol 😭 Next time I move it will NOT be in high season...hopefully...
BTW yes this is considered an expensive apartment for the average person my age living alone!! The prices are really all relative so even though I say the apartment is like $1300, Japanese salaries are way lower so it doesn't really equal that...you know what I'm saying lol. I am so happy that I'm able to afford this rn and I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life in my new apartment aaaahhh!!!
I am rushing to get this out btw because I am days away from moving and my apartment is just a box mountain and my PC is about to disappear into the ether for a bit

I think 2. Safety is the issue. Not being on the main floor and 5 min from work is great. You will get used to the freeway and hanging clothes outside. Also the shower room allows you to dry clothes inside. Too bad the closet isn’t in #2.

Thanks so much for sharing, it’s like an episode of house hunters international! I think you went with the second option because of the higher floor, proximity to work, no bugs, no “thank you money” offsets the cost, and of course the amenities!

Congratulations on getting your new place. Personally I’d go for the second one. Had a much better quality of finish to it, plus the security and peace of mind being above the second floor. Being in between areas could be fun for exploring too.

I’m not moving to Japan for a while but I’m still looking for apartments so this was really nice to see! I think I would go for Apartment 2 if I knew I could afford it. The bigger room and nicer finishing on everything is nice. Also I think I would completely ignore anything on the first floor. Bugs are an absolute no

I think Apartment No.1 is what you chose because of the trendy area you mentioned that was walking distance, the size of the apartment was good, and it is cheaper than the second apartment. Side note: I don’t mind spiders compared to other bugs/ insects 😅 jars are wonderful forms of transportation for spiders to the outside! But only if you’re feeling brave 😊 I hope the move isn’t too taxing and good luck 👍🏻

Not bad at all! I would 1000% pay 135,000 yen for that! Where I live in Canada a place like that would be around 2000-3000 dollars a month. I’m looking into moving to Japan and renting out my current place (which I could rent for $3200) which would definitely cover pretty much any place there from the looks of it. Thanks for this video!

Yeah, apartment 2, with the 5 minutes to work, a package drop-off, etc. The noise, once you have your stuff in there, I don't think it would be so noticeable. Plus you can always wear earplugs for sleeping. So, I'd say you went with apartment 2.

  • @joaniharlan3844

I think that you probably chose option 2 because even though it was a bit above your budget, it has so much more of what you wanted and it's so close to your new job. That being said, I probably would have chosen option 1 because the kitchen was bigger lol.

  • @twinklyes

If I were you, I would have chosen the second one! Even though it’s a bit more expensive, safety is definitely most important, especially since you’re living alone. Plus, you can always buy extra storage for your clothes. The negative parts of the first house can’t be improved using money but the second one can!

Apartment 1 had built in cockroach pest control - spiders’ favorite snack ;) I think I have heard that there’s actually a specific type of large spider Japanese people want to come into their homes and hunt pests (they hunt at night); maybe that’s just in the countryside. Ps: Apartment 2 will require some excellent space saving strategies but definitely an awesome choice. Might make for some great videos: how to save space in tiny apartment (Marie Kondo style?) ❤

This is tough but you were very detailed with your pros and cons. I think the cheaper one being closer to shops could cause extra spending due to that convenience so maybe the little more expensive one is worth being closer to work, further from shops and more convenient amenities in the building. I just hope you can get creative with some type of sound proofing and maybe under the bed storage. Good luck with your move. we hope you are happy with whichever decision!

This was really interesting to watch! I've seen a lot of apartment tours, but never a Japanese apartment hunting vid. So I didn't know much about the different kinds of amenities, pricing, exact size, etc. It seems like the cities in Japan have way nicer and cheaper apartments than in places like New York, lol. Oof, I definitely would've picked Apartment #2, but Apartment #1 is cheaper in the long run, so there's that. I just can't stand orange walls, haha, and Apartment #2 was suuuper nice.

Given all the information you cited it's a tough choice. I like to open my balcony windows which makes it harder as you have to choose between visibility from the street or traffic noise (and pollution). Sound you can take care of with noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs for sleeping. (The custom made ones, not the foam bits.) Bugs are off-putting, but closets are the toughest call. If you have a platform bed with storage under it, that would help to ease that burden. But you have to store lots of things like suitcases too. I'd pick #2 for the extra amenities. If you can work toward a minimalistic style, it will be more comfortable in the long run. Personally, I would have sucked it up in your current place for a bit longer, done the commute, and moved in the off-season when I might have more choices. But that's me.

Apto 2. The problem is the same as the 1st - noise. Personally, I like apto 1 more - more storage and more light but then you said is ground floor and that is a big NO. Never feel confortable is a big no for me so I would have picked 2nd.

I'd say you went with #2. Apartment #1 being ground floor is a deal breaker, too many cons being on a ground floor in my book in a dense urban area. Not to mention the street noise is more apparent vs white noise effect in the 2nd.

Hello, Allison - I am new to your channel, and I know I must be the oldest subscriber you have. You are very charming and I am enjoying your videos. Except for the cartoony and cutesy ones which I will never understand the attraction in Japan to these, however chacun a son gout. Keep up the good work!!
