I loved this show when I was little. It was amazing finding this after 20 years of not knowing much about it, but it made me feel like a kid again to watch the intro. I watched it all the time 1987.
I Think This Is The Only Episode Where Sam, Jodie, And Muffy's Lines Were Redubbed In The Intro
LOVED IT!! i was born in 79 and watched it on channel 13 TVO , and LOVED Muffy the rhyming mouse! the first truth hiphoper!
I used to watch this after school, I was in the sixth grade in 1989:) Brings back alot of those carefree memories.
I was born in 87, but I remember watchin repeats when I was 3 or 4. Was a good show
Thanks for the nostalgia. I used to love this show when I was a kid.
I am obsessed with this show!!! I am 29 now!! Loved it when it was on Nick when it was then, and hated when it got pulled. This is the first time I have ever seen an episode anywhere on the net!! I hope this is the start of many more episodes to be shown!
All these years I still remember the magic words to turn jeff into a human lol. So many great memories.
THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER MADE
my sister and i used to watch this show all the time! it had to be late 80s early 90s - but whenever i mention it to anyone else they have no idea what i'm talking about! good to see it on youtube! :)

Nice, I saw Jeff do Phantom of the opera in Ottawa when I was younger ....hes so talented and I totally grew up watching Todays special. I love muffy.
I completely forgot about this show! I loved it as a kid (good Lord, I feel old now!). I always thought Jodi was so pretty! I didn't realize back then that most of the shows all us 80's kids watched were Canadian-made. They were so great! (I've only come across one person so far who's heard of Zoobilee Zoo). I miss the days of Big Stuff Oreos, Crystal Pepsi, Giggles cookies, and awesome shows like these! Thanks so much for taking me back!
My sister and I used to love this show when we were kids in the late 80s.. God bless youtube

This is the episode where they are subliminally teaching kids to pull fire alarms in stores. I love this one!
It played in America, I know. I saw the word "special" and remembered a show that I had not sen or thought of for a couple decades, I bet! Maybe our cable package included a Canadian channel or a channel in a city near Canada. Thanks to you or anyone else for posting these!
This was my absolute favorite show growing up when I was like 3-5 yrs old lol. LOVE IT!
Hell Yes!!! Hocus Pocus Alamazocus .... are how ever you spell it LOL - I remember this like it was yesterday- TV was bomb back them...
I used to watch this show when I was 8 or 9, and it took me forever to remember the name, All i could remember is a manequin and a mouse....also this must be one of the longest intros to a tv show ever!

@ninjafretshadow I got chills when I found It too.I loved this show so much growing up.
Two thumbs way, way up for me. I'm 30 and I really loved watching this when I was younger, in fact it was my third favourite show to Sesame Street and The Polka Dot Door! I loved the introduction and TXL.
I loved this show, seems like a life time ago.

I'm 32 and i also loved this show also maple town, you can't do that on television and fifteen loved it!!!!!
Another great Canadian children's show
Jeff looks good in a suit. I remember I would be crushing on him real hard even as a 6-7 year old
I'm glad to find out the show wasnt a figment of my imagination growing up. Everybody I have ever asked about this show never heard of it. lol

I LOVE Jeff!! :-)
i looooved this show when i was a kid it was this doctor who i miss this stuff they just dont make it this good anymore
Mort appears quite dapper in his Armani. lol
I still have a live show on tape somewhere. I have seen over hundred times when I was a kid. My parents had take the tape away.
hoodybeatz, that's great, she's reminding me of someone now after the fact. this stuff was waaay better than the crap that passes now. it was more fun, still had live people, and was a little tripped out
Oh, P.S. I believe TV Ontario did release a few episodes of Today's Special on VHS many years ago. In 1984 (and if you can find it) TV Ontario with A&M Records of Canada Ltd. released a cast album with many of the show's great songs on both record and cassette tape. It's very hard to find much like the "Bodyworks" record. I took a ferry trip to an island 3 years ago and did I manage to luck out. Sitting in a 2nd hand shop was the cassette in pristine shape and barely played for fifty cents.
ahhh..the original mannequin.. :)
I can't believe I found this. people think this show was my immagination also. I knew it existed
Thanks for the great feedback guys. Sadly I only have a handful of episodes left and my tracking of other episodes I taped has failed thus far. I know somewhere I have episodes where the cast visit a TV set and Sam gets to sing his "Yo Hee Ho" song. Also I have an episode whose guest was a Ontario RCMP officer (or was it OPP?).
Jodie If your out there, I Luuuuuuv you
The Show was shot at Simpson's Department Store which now The Hudson Bay Company in downtown Toronto as Yonge & Queen
@ninjafretshadow Me too! No one remembered this show when I tried to explain they looked at me as if I was crazy lol. Thank goodness I finally found the name of the show! I loved this show, used watched it all the time growing up.
omg i loved this show too bad kids today wont know what this is
My fav episodes were when they would show Muffy's house.
I'm in Montreal. I believe I watched this on PBS vermont, ch 57. There was also Sesame Street, Polka Dot Door, Doctor Who (there was some kind of weird and scary computer. I think it was called the ghostreader). There was another show that thought chinese.
I used to have a hat when i was like 2 or 3 years old, it was my Jeff Hat, and when I had it on I was a real boy, and when it was off, I was a mannequin.. I wonder what my analyst would say about that! *woody allen voice*
I absolutely loved this show as a kid!!!! Way to go Canada!!! Does anyone have access to the "camping" episode?
jodie always reminded me of VANITY from the last dragon
I am freaking the fuck out. I feel so old!
I feel the same way
Those 2 episodes you described above sound like the episodes: Police and Television
I used to feel real bad for Jeff. How would you feel if you turned into a mannequin every time you lost your hat? lol
great
Is Today's Special on DVD? This takes me back to being a preschooler in the early 80's. I will be 29 soon and I am getting emotional watching this.
I'm pretty sure she's made of sponge? :P It would be handy if there's a spill in the store!
thanks
i just learned this was the only episode recorded in stero and thus required the opening dialogue to be-re recorded
It played in America as Fool said. I believe it was on the Nickelodeon channel. In Canada it aired on TVOntario and the Knowledge Network but I am unsure of the CBC.

I grew up in Minnesota watching this on Nickelodeon.
They did an episode about that, Phil's Visit. It talked about the problems caused by too much drinking. Sam was a strict no drinker and the store had a policy of no alcohol in the store which Sam enforced strictly. Furthermore, in another episode, Daises Sam did help catch a burglar.
@AisuSeijin No, that's not it. The computer was integrated into a wall. It wrote in big white letters on a blue background (just like that Jamal's computer). It talked in a women's voice, loud and robot-like. It was on the first floor of some place and the front door was there and the room was dark. The computer was on the right side of the room. I think there was always these 2 kids who solved problems with the help of the computer.
I love the internet.
im pretty sure that jeff was my first crush.
Could you post the episode "Phil's Visit" when he gets drunk and crashes his camera into the display. I vividly remember that from my childhood, and would get a kick out of seeing it again!
@ninjafretshadow For so many years I had no idea what the show was called. People thought I was making it up when I described it lol!! It does exist. I LOVED this show when I was a kid.
The female mouse sounds like Red Fraggle.
I think the Record is available on E bay. For like $150!
People think I'm crazy when I talk about this. I watchd this went I was lik in 1st grade. Must have only been ppl wit cable
The video is the same, but for some reason the audio (music and dialogue) during the show's opening was redone JUST for this episode.
@vmelkon You may be thinking of something else, since you lived in Montreal... But did you mean "Ghostwriter?" If it was ghostwriter, it wasn't about a scary computer at all. It was about a friendly glowing ghost orb that could only read and interact with letters. Sometimes he'd posses Jamal's computer to communicate so he'd have an infinite number of letters to use, since he could only communicate with existing physical letters.
Sam should have asked when being told about holding the hanle for 3 hours: but what if one of us has to take a piss?

Lol that's one reason why I can't hold the handle, unless there's a bucket nearby
do you have other episodes?
Where's part 2?
Well, he WAS said to have been born in 1919!
just a question. I remember as a child watching this and then it wasn't on tv anymore. Does anyone know the cause of why it went off air. I loved that show

jamie leonard they all needed a change. Jeff went on to more dancing and he was the original Canadian Phantom in “Phantom Of The Opera”, Nerene Virgin (Jodie) went into newscasters, Bob Dermer (Sam) still does kids shows.
do you have any episodes from the 1985 season?
@fornello123 Holy Moly! I know it was real. I knew I didn't imagine all that. lol Wikipedia even has an article on "Read All About it" and the typewriter is there.
@whatthehell1082 That's how I am I take away my daughter's Spongebob DVD's . Sad to see how times have changed...to the worst...lol.
@silverose1209 omg I had the same problem I started to wonder did the show really exist...lol
Nickelodeon sucks a hard one now. Mid-80's shit was awesome
