Amazing technique to explain synchronisation. One application which i have observed is that , at a furniture store if the owner keeps on taking orders without having the exact knowledge of wip then it will become difficult to deliver all the orders at the required time and with efficiency. So this process can be used effectively to ensure customer satisfaction as well as reduce work overload. Thank you sir! Rajvi sharma BD

Thank you Dr. G and the whole team to actually make us understand this concept so effectively. The three lessons were well demonstrated and I understood that even if machine A(in this video) had to be kept idle when machine B acted as the bottleneck, the WIP and lead time could be reduced at the same time maintaining the same output. From this video it can be clearly understood that no matter how efficient or fast the initial machine works, the bottleneck is going to take its time. Therefore the initial machine should synchronize with the bottleneck so that the WIP reduces and cost does not increase. The output remains constant in this case. This concept would have been complicated if it was not demonstrated in this way. Thank you.

Thankyou dr.G and team for such simplified explanation. My take here would be that human body is a bottleneck as it is capable to perform only to a certain extent and health issues (lead time) increase due to increase in physical and mental stress( WIP ) caused by piling work load, prolonged working hours, long and continuous lectures etc. Hence you need recess breaks, vacations, weekends, sleep etc. to reduce stress which is WIP here. So these idle time helps to rejuvenate human body, bring better focus at work and classrooms, body performs better , students and employess develop creative and social skills, hence are less prone to health issues ( better productivity and output with synchronization and hence low lead time). - Srikanth Shetty pgdm BD

@@DrG720214 @Shrinivas Gondhalekar Thankyou for reading and replying on my comment. i understood what you meant. Rest assured I have understood the concept explained in video. Im not at all confused. Here you have explained that however fast the initial operation be, if the last one is limited to perform slower(and also if cannot be rectified) then it makes sense to have idle time for the intial operation so as to stay in sync with the process and avoid piling of WIPs. Its just that I like to jot down my thoughts as and when something clicks while observing, learning or likewise watching any video or concept. May be philosophically this time got way too carried away😂 But at this point of time im reminded of one more lesson you thought us in the previous class regarding bottleneck in an operation. As you mentioned in previous comment, If i have to take human body as a machine, an operation of my ability to take action for my ideas and great thoughts for social cause would be my bottleneck. I sense , hear, see , pity, symphatise, learn, experience and process great thoughts in my head and then sometimes deliver it thru speech. But my bottleneck is taking action on those. Hardly few are converted into deeds. Here my bottleneck lies at the end of the operation and i remember in class you saying that having bottleneck at initial stage is still fine as the errors can be rectified then and there. But when it is at the end then all the efforts of initial process and operation goes for a toss, waste of energy and is of no use. Just like my ideas and good thoughts of helping someone in need. Thankyou once again for amazing operation management concepts and for simplified and practical learning during lectures. I find myself Lucky to experience and see you in action and your passion for teaching. Thankyou once again.🙏

One more amazing video by Dr.G and his students.. Covers the fundamental concept of 'Theory of constraints'. I could easily relate this with the problem most insurance companies face today - 'Policy issuance problem', where the WIP policies are stuck in the issuance process for days due to bottlenecks processes like risk evaluation and document collection. Which eventually impacts the issuance TAT and customer satisfaction drops. Thanks for making an amazing and simple video, which is relevant across industries.

Great lessons guys. Can you think of a way of showing how by 'orchestrating' work arriving at a bottleneck you can make the flow through the bottleneck increase? (ie the person who is idle, arranges the work coming into the bottleneck so that it's actually easier for the bottleneck stage to get the work done?). Real life example: if 'testing' is the bottleneck, a person upstream from the bottlenecl (eg developer) can assist by creating scripts that create test data that tester can use during testing/bottleneck stage. Hope to see this video soon :) (there's a challenge!)

The suggestion is indeed value adding to the concept we are trying to convey here. This is also one interesting way to look at tackling the bottleneck. We will surely work on and around such ideas in our upcoming videos. Thank you so much for your kind feedback.
