Tobin and Christen Recap the World Cup Semifinals with Alyssa Thompson ⚽️ | Episode 7

Спорт

Tobin and Christen return to The RE-CAP studio to discuss the results of the World Cup Semifinals. They offer their thoughts on what went right for Spain and England and what went wrong for Sweden and Australia. Then, they discuss their feelings on the breaking news that the USWNT coach, Vlatko Andonovski, may be resigning. What now? And what is next? Later, Tobin and Christen are joined in studio with the young superstar of the USWNT, Alyssa Thompson. They discuss training at a young age with her sister, what it was like to find out she was selected for the USWNT, her choice to skip college and go pro, how it felt to appear in her first World Cup and so much more. Finally, they welcome Shawna Palmer to learn more about her program, Football For Her, and all of the incredible, motivational and educational things it is doing for those who identify as female or non-binary in the Southern Californian soccer landscape. And, as always, community questions, a World Cup Finals prediction and Tobin’s Top Things!

Tobin shots fired! (she’s not wrong about that missed player transition) Sav Demelo caught a stray but, its not her fault. What happened to Ashley Sanchez still makes me angry. Poor player management ALL over the place. They are too damn talented to not be developed properly. And again, Tobin is right we can’t waste years of the prime of our players with a coach who is also learning.

  • @noodle_fc

@@heppolo Yeah, people can draw unfounded conclusions. There's no reason a team can't have success and respect at the same time. Look at Bev Priestman with Canada or Tony Gustavsson with Australia. France looks better than they have in years after swapping Diacre for Renard, and that happened only a few months ago. But I am sure a lot of people will think the Spanish federation was right to keep Vilda in charge. It's not just football, either. There's a culture-wide willingness to forgive bad behavior from talented people. I don't agree with that. I think there is always someone who can do the job just as well without being an asshole. At least with Vlatko I think it's easy to identify the poor decisions themselves and not think that things would have worked if only he weren't so nice.

I think it was the quality of passing. Spain and England are excellent passing teams. The days of long ball or kick and run are over. It's not enough to be technical on the ball there must be an end product whether it's the pass that splits the defence or the pass the gives a striker a good opportunity for the tap in.

For Alyssa, you mention a lot of negative thoughts you had during this year on the national team such as nervousness during your first games to the feeling of loneliness away at the World Cup although your teammates did help with that. Something that struck me right away was how infectious your smile was and how a person who looks so happy and enjoying themselves could question their own ability. I think that is a valuable asset to the team in the future because even if you are playing with veteran players I think that passion and joy you naturally show, even if it isn't your inner thoughts, will influence those around you and help them to step up to the next level. I look forward to watching your games when you are back in the NWSL and I wish you luck getting to the finals of playoffs. For Tobin and Christen, I really appreciate these insights you have given us to the various players you have on as guests but especially so for the new players into the USWNT. It was really apparent listening to that interview that I didn't know much at all these days. I started following the USWNT in 2011 and there was a lot of familiarity from WC to WC it seems like. Coming into this WC and hearing a quick segment about a player before the match didn't quite do them justice. As a personal example during the tournament was when Lynn Williams was first playing and people were questioning her being there. I live in NC and had spent many years watching her be so instrumental to the Courage's success that I couldn't fathom someone ever doubting her ability. Seeing them in these type of interviews where they are comfortable opening up and sharing stories that give insights to who they are as a person I think is so important for helping the fanbase to connect to the upcoming players and I hope to see more of them in the future. This tournament has shown myself lacking in my following as well after the past few years I hadn't kept up following the league or players, so many of these new additions were surprises even if there were a few that I knew from my own time watching. I have figured out the streaming situation with the games now and my plan is to try to follow as many of the games as I can so that by Olympics or next World Cup I don't need those pregame segments to understand what to expect from a player. Also as a side note for Tobin, you mentioned that in one your WCs (2019 I think you said) that you were doing a lot of selfless running down the sidelines and you felt like it went unseen. I just want to let you know that we did see you and always appreciate the effort you put in playing for us.

Honestly love all the guests they've had on this show. It's so refreshing, interesting, and varied perspectives of people who really care about soccer and girl's opportunities to play.

Tobin Heath has got a good football brain she should be a Coach she might not think its for her but that what most great managers said More ex Us world cup players need to go into coaching

It’s being sad to see the Vilda situation here in Spain as the team wins. A lot of entitled mysoginistic men commanding the players to apologize to him. Men that I doubt watch women soccer at all or have actually bother to understand the situation. There are still some really good players out, so it’s not that everything is solved.

Magnificent episodes and so detail in lineups, pk's, formations. Seems so comfortable in these. Sam Kerr Goal of the World Cup, too bad she was playing with a calf injury plus sitting out which bought the country down a bit. Rachel Daly throw in which was perfect that lead up to england first goal. Tobin and Christen chemistry in these are perfect. Our players need to play in the women futbol leaue in england. don't forget this team will be in a netflix documentary following their world cup journey

Awww, Alyssa is lovely isn’t she? Wish she were English!! I feel that Lauren James has a swagger that is thus far not earned, yet Alyssa is grounded and as yet still humble? Some very very interesting points made in this episode, thanks.

Really appreciate how real Tobin and Christen and Alyssa were. This is an awesome show. Also, I recently learned that 19th-century one-term president Martin van Buren was nicknamed "the little magician" so that's all I could think about when they called Alyssa that 😂
