Toad the Wet Sprocket - Whatever I Fear live from Salt Lake City, UT 10-18-1997
Toad the Wet Sprocket played "Whatever I Fear" in concert for the first time during the summer of 1996. The song's inclusion on Coil when it was released the following May saw "Whatever I Fear" become a key part of live shows during 1997. Although many songs from Coil disappeared from the band's live performances over the last 25+ years, "Whatever I Fear" continues to be included in Toad shows. It ranks second to only "Crazy Life" as the Coil song that has been played live most often by the band. This particular performance was recorded in Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, UT on October 18th, 1997 at the time when fans were almost guaranteed to hear "Whatever I Fear" at a Toad concert. The reason why it's often played is cause it's one of the best Toad songs..... Walk on the Ocean got notta on this song.... They were so good.

Mark I have noticed you and I think a lot alike when it comes to Toad. Coil is so under appreciated and under performed live. It is their masterpiece.

@@TJH1971 I happen to think pale is the best work of art though.... And the most meaningful album and it's also ignored live.... Kinda sad.

@@markmurray6273Glen pretty much hates the first two albums. Keep in mind all of the songs on those two records were written before he was 18 years old… He's kind of embarrassed by the writing on those. He's a likened it to "looking back at embarrassing photos in an old yearbook" he doesn't really have any emotional connection to that material and that's why they don't play much of it live anymore

@@markmurray6273 as for that album being more meaningful than coil I think coil is more important lyrically because that entire record was written during a period of time when he was living in Olympia Washington, his first time away from California, away from his brother, away from his parents, away from all of the friends that he had and he got extremely depressed and suicidal and wrote 36 songs and out of those 36 songs 10 of them ended up on coil along with two older songs that were left over from Dulcinea, "all things in time" and "crazy life". They recorded a new version of ATIT because the Dulcinea version was never finished but they use the actual Dulcinea recording of "crazy life" on Coyle and they just had Gavin MacKillop do a brand new mix and Glen added new harmony vocals and then played organ on it. I would love to hear all of those other songs that he wrote and demoed for it though in 95 and early 96
